Hey there, my name is Kaeleigh, and welcome to Color Types!
In this video, you'll learn the main colors that make up the color wheel
and whether they're primary, secondary, or tertiary colors. We're also going
to talk about warm and cool colors and complementary colors. Let's get started!
Primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Any color can be made from these three colors.
You can even test this at home by mixing paints together. Secondary colors are orange, green,
and purple and are made from two of the primary colors. Red mixes with yellow to make orange,
yellow mixes with blue to make green, and blue mixed with red makes purple.
Tertiary colors are vermillion, amber, chartreuse, teal, violet, and magenta. They're made from one
of the primary colors and one of the secondary colors mixed together. Red mixed with orange
makes vermillion, or red-orange. Orange mixed with yellow makes amber, or orange-yellow.
Yellow mixed with green makes chartreuse, or yellow-green.
Green mixed with blue makes teal, or green-blue. Blue mixed with purple makes
violet, or blue-purple. And purple mixed with red makes magenta, or purple-red.
In art and design, we group all colors into two groups called warm colors or cool colors.
Looking at the color wheel, which colors do you think are considered warm?
We define warm colors as colors that are bold and stand out in nature.
These colors are red, orange, and yellow, like a fire, and the tertiary colors red-orange,
also called vermilion, and orange-yellow, also called amber.
We define cool colors as colors that are calm and soothing in nature. These colors are green,
