  • 00:00

so a couple of days ago I finished study for microbiology for step 1 and then I

  • 00:05

decided to finish all the questions of microbiology in Uworld

  • 00:10

luckily I've got a score ranging from 80 to 90 percent per block

  • 00:14

so in this video I'll show you how I prepared for microbiology and what benefited me the most

  • 00:24

for sources I exclusively focused on first aid for microbiology and a lot of people

  • 00:29

complain about microbiology in first aid because it doesn't have any explanations

  • 00:33

it just basically plain facts but microbiology in general doesn't have

  • 00:38

anything to explain in the first place just facts about microbes that you need

  • 00:42

to organize and memorize in your head and my only source for microbiology was first aid

  • 00:49

secondly you need to cover everything in first aid for microbiology

  • 00:54

it's about 80 pages which is very long for first aid but it's very

  • 00:59

important to go through all of it before you actually start studying for microbiology

  • 01:04

and by going through it I don't mean that you should stick in each page for 30 minutes

  • 01:09

and I also don't mean that you should skim through the whole thing

  • 01:12

but you'll need to read all the text and all the topics and see all the pictures

  • 01:16

it should take you about five minutes per page

  • 01:21

after you've read the entire microbiology section and first-aid now it's time to actually study microbiology

  • 01:27

so you're going to go back to the first page and start

  • 01:29

memorizing and organizing the topics one by one in your head

  • 01:33

and as you're studying make sure that you focus on the unique features of the diseases and the

  • 01:37

organisms and I can tell you that every disease and every organism in

  • 01:42

microbiology have that one unique feature that differentiates it from others

  • 01:45

it's very crucial to know that one unique detail without one unique world

  • 01:50

linked to this disease because as you're reading the question and you see

  • 01:54

that word it's going to light up in your head and you're gonna know that this is

  • 01:56

talking about this disease or talking about the other bacteria

  • 02:01

but somebody would ask how would I know if this feature is unique or not

  • 02:04

and that's the benefit of reading everything in the first place from A to Z

  • 02:08

because when you've read everything before you've seen multiple symptoms or

  • 02:12

multiple feature that keep occurring over and over again

  • 02:15

in multiple diseases but there's always that one feature that stands out

  • 02:20

virulence factors are very, very important

  • 02:24

you'll really be surprised about the number of questions written about the bacterial virulence factors

  • 02:30

and sadly the majority of these questions have low answer rate

  • 02:34

I've made a video before about the bacterial balance factors and in this channel when you're

  • 02:39

going through first stage you're gonna find some very inspectors in this

  • 02:42

bacteria and some others in other pages and some others far head so

  • 02:46

in this video I've collected everything in just one place so I highly recommend

  • 02:51

watching after you finish this video I'm gonna put the card at the end you also

  • 02:55

you'll also need to know the general features of bacteria and viruses so you'll have to

  • 03:00

get yourself familiar with these terms transformation conjugation

  • 03:04

transportation and transduction for bacteria and for viruses you need to

  • 03:10

    know these terms recombination reassortment

  • 03:13

complementation and phenotypic mixing you'll have to truly understand what we

  • 03:19

mean by each one of these terms if you guys find these features difficult to

  • 03:23

understand also your friendship between them make sure you tell me down in the

  • 03:26

comment section below and if enough of you want a video about them I will make a video explaining them

  • 03:32

stains and others are also messy because they're

  • 03:35

all over first aid and you need to know all stains and all agars for all bacteria

  • 03:38

I know it's very long. it's very tedious, but it's very, very important

  • 03:44

also you need to know the special tests that are mentioned in first aid

  • 03:48

what I did is I've got a piece of paper and I've written down all the tests that I've came across

  • 03:53

there's about ten or fifteen special tests that you'll need to know

  • 03:59

the transmission of diseases is very, very important.

  • 04:04

I guarantee that you will be asked about the transmission of disease either directly

  • 04:08

or indirectly so you'll need to know how each and every disease transmits

  • 04:13

the ridiculous part about it is that a lot of diseases share a common vector or

  • 04:16

common way of transmission so what i did is that I've got a piece of paper and

  • 04:21

I've written down all the transmissions for all organisms all ones so I have

  • 04:25

them all in one paper and I can just revise them very easily

  • 04:30

then there comes the question about fungi, protozoa and worms do you study them or not? are they important?

  • 04:38

fortunately I've seen very few questions about fungi, protozoa are and worms

  • 04:42

but fungi seems to have the upper hand so I wouldn't really recommend focusing on

  • 04:47

them and studying them first, but just leave them till the very end

  • 04:50

when you've finished everything. so don't ignore them just keep them last

  • 04:55

and finally this is very, very important you'll need to know the treatment of all

  • 05:00

organisms and all diseases for some reason they focus so much on the

  • 05:05

    treatment for organisms and diseases

  • 05:08

honestly the majority of the questions just asked about the name of the drug that would treat this disease

  • 05:13

without going into further details about the mechanism of action or the side effects

  • 05:17

so again like fungi, protozoa and worms I would recommend you that you know all

  • 05:22

the treatment first and then at the very end you go back to study the side effects and what not

  • 05:27

but you'll have to know how we treat each and every disease

  • 05:37

but finally into this done so now I can move on to another subject and hopefully
