The final Cobra Kai Season 5 trailer has just released, teasing us with tons of new details
before the Season 5 premiere on September 9th.
Today we're going to break it all down.
Hi I'm Ken Cole and if you're a fan of Cobra Kai, Karate Kid or movies in general, you're
in the right place.
Be sure to hit like, subscribe and the notification bell so you don't miss anything going forward.
If you haven't seen the new season 5 trailer yet, be sure to watch it here.
Now let's see what we can discover about this new trailer.
The trailer starts with same scene from last trailer where Daniel says “this is what
we're up against.
This is how everyone sees him,†Daniel and Chozen are watching what looks like a news
story of Terry Silver winning the all Valley Tournament, so Season 5 is likely starting
right where Season 4 left off.
Daniel continues that “everyone sees him as some kind of philanthropist out to save
the kids of the Valley†We see Terry Silver stepping up to the podium at an event, and
it looks like an auction, possibly a fundraiser for a charity.
Could it be for a Terry Silver charity?
Could Terry be auctioning himself off?
Looks like this is a new location in a woodsy area and Terry is about to speak to the bidders.
Amanda is in attendance too and it looks like she's giving him the once-over.
Uh oh Daniel!
Seems like she's got a smile and having a good time.
Is Amanda enjoying hanging out with Terry Silver, maybe a little too much?
And notice the dress she's wearing for later in the trailer.
Then we see Terry all serious, with kind of a new ponytail look.
Maybe a little shorter, a high-fashion sensei ponytail look.
He's looking over his students in his swank, modern new dojo.
Then Johnny speeds to a stop in his brand new Eagle Fang Minivan, and he asks “is
one of you guys named Michael†and she replies it's “Michaela†and he says “whateverâ€
- it looks like he's picking them up, he might be an Uber driver now.
Then we hear Johnny say “I washed my hands of Cobra Kai when we lost the tournament.
I'm not a sensei anymore.â€
and we see Season 4 shots of Johnny and Robby at the tournament.
Johnny puts in a cassette tape, yes!
Probably of some 80s music, as Johnny's passengers look confused as he floors it.
I love this Eagle Fang minivan and somehow hope I see it someday in real life driving
around the Valley.
So a question is, is Johnny's new job as an Uber driver happening after he gets back from
Mexico?
At the end of Season 4, it looked like he was headed to Mexico right away.
So this might be after he returns as he's trying to get on his feet again, but BEFORE
he teams up Daniel and Chozen.
Next we see Daniel announce to students that he's shutting down Miyagi-Do.
Sam is very concerned and says “this can't be your plan.â€
Then Daniel says “with Johnny gone, it's on me to fix this.â€
Then there's a cut to Johnny driving a business-type guy around.
So one question here is whether Daniel is saying this while Johnny is in Mexico with
Robby as we saw in the last trailer OR if Johnny is back and reluctant to join forces
with Daniel and help take back the Valley.
Anyway we see Johnny driving this business guy and there's some type of figure with a
sombrero, probably from his trip to Mexico.
So he probably has good feelings about the trip.
Then he slams on the breaks and his customer gave him one-star ratings on both pickup and
delivery.
And I just need to point out Johnny's profile picture.
Who wouldn't want an Uber driver that's a badass karate sensei.
Johnny complains about the one star.
And that the customer said it smells like beer.
And Johnny says “it's because there is beer a-hole.â€
Which is hilarious but, I'm guessing with ratings and feedback like that, Johnny's Uber
driving career won't last too long.
Then we see a very disciplined group of Cobra Kai students at Terry Silver's new dojo, including
Devon and Tory and Kyler.
So it's very interesting that Devon has decided to join Cobra Kai, and we'll see more of that
in a little bit.
And it looks like Kenny is advancing very quickly up the ranks in Terry's dojo.
There's no evidence of new senseis in this scene, so this could be early in the season
when Terry Silver is the only sensei.
Then we see the shot of Kenny again recruiting new students to Cobra Kai.
Next Carmen is looking at her mail and she sees what looks like a Cobra Kai card or flyer.
It's a quick shot but this could be a big story point if Terry Silver and Cobra Kai
are trying to recruit Miguel to come back to the Cobra Kai dojo.
I've talked about this possibility in other videos – so far it doesn't look like Miguel
is happy with anyone after he gets back from Mexico, and I'm sure Terry Silver would love
to have Miguel's talents at Cobra Kai.
Then we see Terry Silver talking to what could be senseis from different dojos, including
this one from Cutting Edge Karate.
Not sure yet if he is trying to recruit them or if he just bought out their dojos.
He says “Cobra Kai has more students than ever before.â€
Then there's a wide shot with tons of Cobra Kai students and we see Terry flanked by what
looks like new senseis.
Maybe this is when he introduces them to the students for the first time (Kim Da-Eun in
the back?)
And HERE is an epic shot of Terry getting out of very classy super-stretch limo in front
of an airplane hanger.
If any image screams rich 80s villain, this is it, and we are witnessing the true EPIC
essence of Terry Silver.
Dressed in stylish black from head to toe.
Rockin great sunglasses and also an incredible-looking medallion around his neck.
During this we hear Terry say “and that means we'll need more senseis.â€
And we have a shot of potentially five new senseis lined up, and one of them looks like
he has an eyepatch.
Though this scene introduces a major new character, Sensei Kim Da-Eun.
And what an entrance, wearing high-heels and looking very fashionable as well.
And is this Terry's plane or her plane?
Is she super rich too?
Terry and Sensei Kim bow to each other as we hear Terry say “and I'm thinking a lot
bigger than just the Valley.â€
So this is the full video reveal of Sensei Kim Da-Eun, and I've done a deeper dive on
who this character could be – go ahead and click the video link to see more.
The short version is that she might be related to Master Kim Sun-Yung from South Korea, who
taught Captain Turner and apparently John Kreese and Terry Silver, and therefore could
be the originator of the Cobra Kai fighting style.
And here Sensei Kim could be the current world master of the original Cobra Kai fighting
style and philosophy, and Terry literally rolls out the red carpet when she arrives
from South Korea.
It's interesting that the other senseis have duffel bags at their feet.
And they have a very military look.
Remember, Kim Sun-Yung trained US military back in the day.
Did they travel with Sensei Kim?
And if so, are they fighters from Sensei Kim's school in South Korea that are going to help
her teach at Cobra Kai?
What's interesting here is Sensei Kim's subtle facial reaction to seeing Silver, is she impressed
or is she sizing him up as a future opponent?
If Terry Silver and Sensei Kim are cut from the same stylish and world-dominating cloth,
Terry could be inviting trouble by bringing Sensei Kim into his Cobra Kai dojo.
And here we see Anthony at a water park, and it looks like Kenny is continuing to pay him
back for all the bullying he endured in Season 4.
Of course Kyler and some other Cobras are happy to help Kenny as they stack inflatable
tubes over Anthony and kick him into the pool, as we hear “everything was supposed to be
better after the tournament, it's only getting worse.â€
This leads to a scuffle of Cobras against former Miyagi Dos, notably between Kenny and
Bert and then in the back, is that Devon?
If so, it looks like she's not with the Cobras in this scuffle, which is interesting considering
we see her training at Cobra Kai elsewhere in the trailer.
Eli arrives in the shot and appears to be toying with Kenny by dodging his punch, and
not putting up much of an effort before Kenny lands a hit to the face.
And of course everyone in the Valley is at the waterpark this particular day as Robby
sees the scuffle happening, along with Sam and Miguel.
Sam looks concerned and Miguel looks angry, I'd say angrier than we've seen him before.
It seems Sam and Miguel are still together at this point.
So a lot happening in this shot – it looks like Kenny may have knocked someone (probably
Eli) into the pool as Robby intervened and maybe hurt Kenny's leg.
Which angers Miguel who shoves Robby from the back.
Then they stare each other down with Kenny looking on.
In the voiceover we hear Robby say “I know how things can start out from nothing and
can get bigger and bigger until all you feel is hate.â€
So it looks like the whole Miguel Mexico Rescue plan didn't end their issues and maybe something
new has happened between them.
Also Miguel is angry and rushing to defend Kenny, a Cobra, after he faced off against
Eli, so does this mean that Miguel, at least temporarily, trains with Cobra Kai?
If so, Sam is still hanging out with Miguel.
Does this mean that SHE has defected and joined Cobra Kai as well?
We'll get back to that in a minute.
Johnny says, “I want you guys to get along.
We're all friends now.â€
and then we hear them say “we're not friends, we never will be.â€
So something is still deeply wrong between these two.
And then we see them facing off back at apartment.
Will this be the last time they fight or will they ever be able to patch things up?
Stay tuned and we might have an answer.
Here we see the famous Valley map and coffee creamer Cobra Kai markers, and yes indeed
this scene takes place at LaRusso Auto with Daniel, Chozen, Amanda and Johnny united in
planning to take down Cobra Kai.
Daniel says “Silver's dividing and conquering†and Chozen says “ if this continues, all
that we have fought for will not even be a memory.â€
That is also a very ominous quote from Chozen – and a reference to Terry Silver's promise
to Miyagi in Karate Kid III.
So when Chozen says “if this continues†does he mean Terry Silver's corporate takeover,
or is this war with Terry Silver demoralizing Chozen and the LaRusso's and Miyagi's memory.
And what is this map?
It looks like Daniel and Chozen may have opened multiple new locations to try and take down
Cobra Kai, but Daniel is placing more Cobra Kai markers, so maybe Terry just keeps opening
more locations to choke them out.
Now we jump back over to Cobra Kai and we see Devon and Tory go up against Sensei Kim
in the Cobra Kai dojo and we hear Terry Silver say to Sensei Kim “I need you to see which
of my students are ready to take the next step.â€
Note the Cobra engraving on Terry Silver's medallion.
Very cool.
Then there's a shot of Sensei Kim teaching Cobra Kai class, flanked by another sensei
and Tory.
And there's one student wearing a blue TOPANGA KARATE gi.
And it appears to be Devon.
But why is she wearing a different gi from the other students?
Maybe Devon originally went to Topanga Karate after Eagle Fang, and then Terry Silver bought
out Topanga Karate.
Or maybe Sensei Kim recruited Devon from Topanga Karate and this is before she was officially
accepted into Cobra Kai.
Let me know what you think.
But we're beginning to see just how brutal Sensei Kim is.
This looks like a painful exercise in front of the other students where Devon and Tory
might be trying to grab a bamboo stick off of a table before the other.
Here we see that as Devon gets her hand to the table, Tory kicks her in the face, and
it looks like it hurts.
But Sensei Kim isn't impressed, grabs one of the sticks and whacks Tory's leg or foot
with it, and I think she says “get harder†- so perhaps this a new brutal lesson in body
hardening.
After we see Daniel and Chozen looking at something apprehensively, we have a very interesting
shot inside the Cobra Kai dojo where Chozen is surrounded by what look like teachers from
other karate dojos, including Locust Valley (which was Daryl Vidal's dojo in Karate Kid
1).
So DID Terry buy all the other dojos and they're his now?
And are these Senseis now goons for Terry and about to take down Chozen?
But Chozen is in his gi, so it's not a street fight.
Could Chozen be demonstrating something to them?
Or is this a wager where if Chozen can fend of the other senseis, they'll come work for
him and Daniel instead of Terry Silver?
And we hear Amanda say “you really won't stop†and Daniel gets angry saying “you
need to let me and Chozen handle this.
It's the only way to make it all end.â€
Then Amanda says “fine, handle it.â€
Notice here that Amanda is wearing the same dress that she was wearing at the auction
event before.
So the question is, does this argument happen after Amanda was schmoozing with Terry or
before?
Did Daniel piss off Amanda before right before she saw Terry Silver at the event and realized
he doesn't look too bad after all.
Some quick shots of Chozen doing what he does best – kick other senseis asses.
Similar to his skills in Karate Kid 2.
It does look like he'll win that confrontation, though they are fighting one-by-one and not
ambushing Chozen.
So as Daniel picks up the picture of his family, it does look like he could be losing a grip
on his normal life.
We see some serious stubble here.
Daniel is looking a bit broken, almost like he's turning into Johnny from season one.
Very interesting turn of events.
We see a shot of Johnny lying on an empty carpet next to his laptop and what looks like
a paint respirator mask.
So maybe Johnny is unhappily working a new job after the Uber job probably doesn't work
out, or could be remodeling his own place or Carmen's place.
If you look closely at the laptop, Terry Silver's commercial is playing before Johnny slams
the laptop shut.
He then shows up at the LaRusso house, maybe deciding he wants to help take down Silver.
Chozen and Amanda look a bit surprised to see him.
Then we hear Johnny say “all we gotta do is get our hands dirty.â€
Notice that we don't see Daniel here with Chozen and Amanda.
Could Daniel have finally gone off the deep end and gone rogue?
If so, Johnny's return could be a big help to the team.
Next we get more from the “gasoline†scene, where Terry Silver warns Daniel “if you
continue down this path, nothing in your life will ever be the same again.â€
And if Terry Silver ever threatened me like that, I'd be quaking in my boots.
This could mean that Terry is openly targeting every aspect of Daniel's life, ruining his
marriage and his relationship with his kids.
Though it's nice that Terry at least warned him.
And here we see a reconstituted Miyagi-Do Eagle Fang dojo, with Chozen in the mix.
With Miguel, Robby, Sam, Anthony, and Amanda is bowing too!
So maybe the Miguel/Robby angst and Larusso family strife is short-lived.
It will be interesting to see what they call themselves.
Maybe Sato's dojo?
Chozen gives Daniel a confident look and Daniel looks at Johnny with a shaved face and a black
eye.
Maybe he got into a fight with Terry Silver or maybe it was another bike accident.
At least Johnny appears to be openly supporting Daniel.
There's a closeup on one of those bamboo sticks Sensei Kim was using to torture--- ahem TRAIN
the students earlier and the hand of one of the senseis.
In walks Chozen and Johnny and the sensei, having no clue who they are says “adult
classes are on Wednesday.â€
And Johnny has an epic 80s line “we're not here to take a lesson, we're here to teach
you one.â€
And Johnny looks like he might make quick work of that Cobra Kai sensei.
Quick shot of Chozen teaching the students, then another quick shot of Sam and Robby demonstrating
the wheel technique for an curious group of committee types who could be laywers, regulators,
or maybe these are national karate bigwigs that are evaluating the dojo for national
standing.
Check out these same characters watching Devon and Tory at Cobra Kai.
They could be part of national version of the All Valley and everyone is about to compete
on a much bigger stage.
Though there is someone who has experience competing on a national stage and that's the
Tournament Terror, Karate's Badboy Mike Barnes.
Is this how Mike Barnes enters the picture?
Check out this fearsome shot of Sensei Kim in front of her army of Senseis.
It does look like she's the head honcho, at least in this scene.
She looks like she's ready for war against...
Yes, Johnny and Chozen fighting together.
This will bring a tear to every Karate Kid fan.
I can't wait to see how this battle turns out.
Here's an interesting shot of Eli with an emerging Mohawk in a Miyagi-Do gi fighting
against Kenny at the Cobra Kai dojo with Terry, Sensei Kim and the others looking on.
There's also a guy in a short-sleeve shirt behind Eli/Hawk – a ref that we'll see later.
Is this some kind of competition or exhibition for those committee types from earlier?
Sensei Kim squares off against Tory and Devon at once in front of the Cobra Kai class.
Then we cut back to Devon in a Cobra Kai gi competing against Sam wearing a Miyagi-Do
gi at the Cobra Kai dojo.
This looks like the same competition event as the Kenny/Hawk fight.
After some shots of Tory looking intense, we see another angle of the Sam/Devon fight.
We can finally see the ref and it looks like those committe-type characters are part of
some type of judging panel.
Could it be pre-qualifying for the national championships?
Or the Olympics?
Let me know what you think is happening here.
Kenny jumps over Kyler and does a flying kick at the sensei.
And by the way, check out that wall.
Look at all those trophies.
Where did Cobra Kai get all those trophies so fast?
Did Terry make Tory bring her trophy into the dojo to display it on the wall?
Here's a cool shot of Eli, Miguel and Robby training together – so hopefully that means
before too long in Season 5 everyone makes up and joins forces.
Then we get a joyfully fierce Terry Silver facing down an unshaven Daniel.
It looks like Daniel wants to fight but perhaps Silver is gleefully toying with Daniel's mind.
Daniel does look like he might be unravelling.
I'm sure everything is going according to Terry's plan, though he might give Daniel
a black eye just for fun.
We get the Season 5 logo, then... we get a counselor saying “I'm happy to hear that
you're doing well with the others.â€
Then we see Kreese in a CDCR, or California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
Prisoner, jersey dominating the other inmates.
It's interesting that Kreese is behind bars, which connects back to his POW experience
in Season 3.
This may be where Kreese is his most dangerous.
Then Kreese says “yeah, well I make friends pretty easily.â€
intercutting with more fighting.
“I find that a little kindness goes a long way.â€
A great line to end the trailer on.
So it's confirmed, Kreese is in prison for attempted murder of Stingray, which Terry
Silver framed him for.
So that's it.
In this trailer we did not see Stingray.
We did not see Mike Barnes, even though he's now confirmed to appear.
So far no Snake or Dennis.
No Jessica Andrews.
No Kumiko.
No Bobby, Jimmy or Dutch.
And no Tom Cole.
