  • 00:00

in this video i am talking about how to upgrade  your life for mid-year this year we are treating

  • 00:05

media like a second new year this is a time  to start new things make changes in your life

  • 00:10

become the person that you've always wanted to  become or at least take steps towards that person

  • 00:15

and in this video i want to talk about how to  do all of that in the form of mindset shifts to

  • 00:19

make rituals to embrace changes to make in your  life the first way to upgrade your life mid-year

  • 00:25

is through a mindset shift a mindset shift that  is become the person that you want to be friends

  • 00:31

with for example the kind of person that i would  want to be friends with she takes herself to the

  • 00:35

beach she goes on cue coffee dates she is reading  she is meditating she is journaling and so that is

  • 00:41

who i try to be and you can also use the mindset  become the person that you would want to date

  • 00:45

because how can you attract those kind of people  in your life if you're not embracing the qualities

  • 00:49

that you want to see in other people embracing  this mindset does two things for you firstly

  • 00:53

your life is going to be more enjoyable because  you'll approach your weekend and you'll be like

  • 00:57

what would the person that i'd want to be friends  with do with their weekend etc etc and also you'll

  • 01:02

find that you'll attract those people which i  would argue is one of the biggest upgrades in

  • 01:06

life that you can make just one new friend huge  life upgrade to do this decide what the kind of

  • 01:11

person that you would want to be friends with does  with their days how do they spend their free time

  • 01:15

what are the kind of places that they are going  to in your local area what mindsets are they

  • 01:20

embracing what kind of things are they watching  then start putting yourself in environments where

  • 01:24

those people would be so take yourself to the  local coffee shop that you think that that girl

  • 01:29

would hang out at escort yourself to the park  read a book under the shady tree you don't need

  • 01:33

to go to these places with other people if other  people in your life don't want to attend your cute

  • 01:37

coffee shop go on your own drop the attitude of  if i have plans they have to be with someone else

  • 01:42

if your small circle of friends cannot make it to  thrifting on saturday you go thrifting anyways you

  • 01:47

get a hot chocolate mid-thrift trip you bring a  book so that you can sit drink your hot chocolate

  • 01:52

we are getting comfortable with being on our own  in this mindset shift then start planning your

  • 01:56

weeks in alignment with this person start with  small changes one little trip to that coffee shop

  • 02:02

chuck in a workout session here and there and  slowly up the entity over time going back to

  • 02:06

that question what would a person that i would  actually enjoy being around be doing with their

  • 02:11

time the next way to upgrade your life for media  is to decide to make the unenjoyable enjoyable

  • 02:17

for the next six months think through the most  mundane parts of your life so your commute your

  • 02:22

cleaning routine waiting in line for lunch write  a list of all of those mundane things that you do

  • 02:27

that you don't particularly enjoy then ask how  can i make these mundane moments more magical

  • 02:32

if you mix doing laundry with playing all of  the new episodes from your favorite podcast

  • 02:36

laundry suddenly becomes an enjoyable task if  when you wait in line for lunch you choose to

  • 02:41

intentionally message appreciation messages to all  the people that you love it becomes something that

  • 02:46

you'll look forward to another way to make mundane  tasks more interesting is to simply decide to give

  • 02:51

them your all instead of just tidying the house  decide to make it a project what is the best route

  • 02:57

to tidy your house what can you do to make your  tidying routine 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes

  • 03:02

become kind of fascinated by these tasks that you  consider mundane to make them more interesting

  • 03:07

tasks iambogost is a game designer who talks a lot  about making mundane things fun he talks about how

  • 03:13

he really didn't enjoy mowing the lawn until he  started asking himself what is the best time of

  • 03:16

day to mow a lawn how can i make my grass grow  incredibly well and then he just got really into

  • 03:22

the mundane task of mowing his lawn being ultra  curious made for a far more interesting task near

  • 03:28

the author of indistractable goes back to the  quote the cure for boredom is curiosity there is

  • 03:33

no cure for curiosity the next way to upgrade your  life is to create a weekly planning ritual that

  • 03:38

supports you becoming the person that you want to  be weekly planning is not just for productivity

  • 03:43

i see it as a time to also plan in the enjoyable  things in your week plan when you're gonna get

  • 03:47

in nature when you're going to be in the sunshine  plan in dates with yourself moments of discomfort

  • 03:53

alongside planning in the to do's planning in  the task planning in the things that move you

  • 03:56

forward on your goals the most magical of times  often come from just a little bit of pre-planning

  • 04:01

you've rarely gone to a magical party that hasn't  involved a bunch of pre-planning you probably

  • 04:06

haven't been to a good presentation that hasn't  involved a good amount of pre-planning it's very

  • 04:12

unlikely that you have done a really good job at  an interview without some pre-planning i recently

  • 04:18

made a whole video about how to organize your  week and get things done that talks all about

  • 04:22

creating an intentional weekly planning ritual  that is very much custom to yourself i'm going

  • 04:26

to have that linked up here as well as down below  if you want to dive deeper on a weekly planning

  • 04:30

routine the next way to upgrade your life for  the next six months is to start actively working

  • 04:35

on your negative beliefs so beliefs like i'm  a procrastinator i am not competent i'm not

  • 04:40

interesting to uncover your negative beliefs that  you really need to start working on ask yourself

  • 04:45

the question what am i struggling with right now  and what beliefs are supporting that struggle for

  • 04:51

example if you're struggling with finding a good  relationship do you hold the belief that you're

  • 04:55

not worthy of someone amazing that you're not  worthy of a ton of love if you are struggling

  • 04:58

with money do you hold the belief that money is  a really limited resource and it's really hard

  • 05:04

to make negative beliefs usually start with i am i  can't world is people are and those beliefs drive

  • 05:11

your life whether you think you can or you  think you can't you are right applies always

  • 05:17

get intentional about firstly uncovering your  negative beliefs you need to be aware of your

  • 05:21

negative beliefs before you can start working on  them secondly decide which ones that you want to

  • 05:25

work on first pick the ones that are having the  biggest impact on your day-to-day life thirdly

  • 05:30

do the work around those beliefs there are a ton  of resources online to help you with this if you

  • 05:35

truly make it a priority to start working on your  negative beliefs in the next six months your life

  • 05:40

will look very different by the end of the year  the next way to level up your life for media is

  • 05:44

to decide exactly how you are going to manage your  mind when negative feelings or thoughts arise our

  • 05:50

society tells us that negative feelings are really  bad to have and our friends and our family as much

  • 05:55

as they adore us when we get negative feelings  they just try to squash them they don't want to

  • 05:59

see them and most of us are never really taught  how to handle our negative emotions at least

  • 06:03

in a healthy way something that can be really  helpful for this is creating almost a manual for

  • 06:08

your feelings so amber rae released a product it's  called the wonder journal and it is essentially a

  • 06:14

guide to managing your emotions if you're feeling  angry you flip to that page you follow the prompts

  • 06:20

this is not me telling you that you absolutely  need to buy that journal i am saying that you can

  • 06:24

create something of a similar nature for yourself  that helps you to handle those emotions when they

  • 06:28

arise it can be a quick list that says when i am  mad i label five things in my environment i do a

  • 06:34

breath exercise etc doing this is just like having  a guide for your car there is not a chance that

  • 06:40

you would let a learner out on the road without at  the very least a teacher with them someone that at

  • 06:45

least initially guides them on how to merge onto  the highway without dying but once they've been

  • 06:49

guided for a certain amount of time in australia  it's about 100 hours that's when muscle memory

  • 06:54

has started to develop reactions have become  automated they have a reflex built in when

  • 06:59

things happen on the road and wanting to manage  your mind is very much the same if for the next

  • 07:03

six months every time a negative feeling arises  you react to it by taking five deep breaths really

  • 07:10

sitting back and feeling your feelings feeling  those physical triggers that come up behavioral

  • 07:15

warnings that come up emotional warnings that  come up and then doing a bit of journaling

  • 07:20

you are going to develop a really healthy reflex  when you feel those negative emotions in future i

  • 07:26

have had a bounce back checklist for years that  i've talked about in videos before essentially

  • 07:30

it's this list of self-care activities that i know  i need to visit whenever i'm feeling down i even

  • 07:35

turn this into an interactive bounce-back guide on  my app intention which i'll have linked down below

  • 07:40

i have used that bounce back guide so much that  whenever i feel off mentally i go through all of

  • 07:47

those self-care essentials have i had enough water  have i had a good nutritious meal did i get enough

  • 07:52

sleep last night have i connected recently it's  very automatic now because i've revisited that

  • 07:57

checklist that many times and that's what happens  my brain is now wired to revisit those things when

  • 08:02

i'm feeling down i don't even necessarily need  to go to the bounce back guide although i like to

  • 08:07

because i've hardwired it in if you liked this  video you might like my playlist that focuses

  • 08:12

very much on resetting your life and this is a  great time of year to visit those kind of videos

  • 08:16

in it you'll have videos on how to reset for  mid-year how to reset for a new month which

  • 08:21

absolutely you can apply to mid-year how to  plan and organize your week if you do want

  • 08:25

to create a weekly planning routine and five  thinking habits to start for 2021 that you can

  • 08:30

definitely embrace in the next six months  i'm gonna have that playlist listed on the

  • 08:34

screen as well as down below i appreciate  you so very much and i will see you soon
