We’ll let you decide in this video, where we bring you seven more mechanical pencils with incredible engineering details.

Multifunction Guide Pipe: Ohto Conception Mechanical Pencils

The Ohto Conception is ingeniously designed

with two modes to help you get the most  out of this mechanical pencil’s guide pipe.

To switch between the modes, just turn the grip section clockwise or counterclockwise.

In drafting pencil mode, the guide pipe stays in place.

It provides an unobstructed view of the tip,

so you can follow templates and rulers precisely.

In lead guard mode, the guide pipe retracts with the lead as you write.

With standard mechanical pencils,

you have to extend the lead every time it wears down to the tip of the guide pipe.

But with the Conception’s sliding sleeve,

you can use the entire extended length of  the lead while also keeping it reinforced.

As an added bonus, the Conception lets you  set how far the lead extends with every click!

Twist the knurled ring above the clip to set it  anywhere from 0.2 millimeters to 2.0 millimeters.

Heat-Dissipating Grip: Pilot AirBlanc Mechanical Pencils

If you suffer from uncomfortably warm or sweaty hands, the Pilot AirBlanc is here to help.

The pencil’s inner plastic body has grooves in the surface,

which maintains a layer of air between  the barrel and the outer grip.

This dissipates heat and keeps your hand cool through hours of writing.

The AirBlanc comes in six  colors and uses 0.3 millimeter leads.

Writers who prefer thicker leads can try the Zebra Airfit LT or S,

both of which use similar grip  technologies and come in 0.5 mm tip sizes.

Pressure Absorbing: Pilot Mogulair Mechanical Pencils

Keep leads from breaking with the Pilot Mogulair Mechanical Pencil.

It uses an active suspension mechanism that gently cushions the tip when it’s first pressed against the writing surface.

The lead also retracts slightly into the tip,  protecting it if too much pressure is applied.

The Mogulair is a shaker pencil too: you don’t  have to move your hand to extend the lead,

just shake the pencil up and down!

Lead Indicator: Pilot Dr. Grip Ace Shaker Mechanical Pencils

The Dr. Grip Ace Shaker combines several of  Pilot’s most popular mechanical pencil features,

like the ergonomic design of the Dr. Grip and the  Mogulair’s active suspension mechanism.

It has one more feature though: a special indicator window  that tells you when the pencil is running out of lead!

The Las-1 Sign turns orange when  the pencil is on its last piece of lead,

so you know exactly when to refill it.

Okay, of all the features we mention here,  this is probably the silliest one...

but you never know when it might come in handy!

Automatic Lead Advancement Mechanism:  Pilot S30 Drafting Pencils

The Pilot S30 Drafting Pencil has an automated lead advancement mechanism

that extends the lead whenever the tip is pressed against the paper.

You never have to extend the lead yourself!

Additionally, the Pilot S30 is made from real  birch wood that has been infused with resin,

then polished to a velvety texture.

Multiple Lead Sizes: Sun-Star Nicolo Multi Mechanical Pencils

The Sun-Star Nicolo lets you swap between two  lead sizes by twisting the top part of the barrel!

Twisting it to the right extends a 0.3 millimeter pencil tip,

so you might be wondering: what’s  the Uni Alpha Gel Switch doing here?

Isn’t it just another lead rotation pencil?  Well, this pencil is a bit different:

you can turn off the lead rotation  mechanism by twisting the clip!

The Switch’s “hold” mode is  useful in different situations.

As an example, you might like the look of certain  strokes being broader than others when you’re drawing.

Or you might prefer the hold mode’s more stable feel while you jot down quick notes.

No matter how you use the Switch, you can  enjoy its cushy Alpha Gel grip as you write.
