  • 00:00

    Hey!

  • 00:01

What's up, Awesome Go Natural English Learner?

  • 00:03

Welcome to the episode where today we are talking about how to improve your English

  • 00:10

using something that you probably already take with you every single day.

  • 00:16

No, it's not your English textbook.

  • 00:19

    It's something else.

  • 00:20

    Can you guess?

  • 00:21

    Oh, hey!

  • 00:22

Before I forget, I want to invite you to join my free training for the Go Natural English

  • 00:30

    Seven Step Method to Fluency.

  • 00:33

You can join that at gonaturalenglish.com/7steps.

  • 00:38

Okay, can you guess what that thing is that you carry with you all the time?

  • 00:47

    It's your smartphone!

  • 00:48

And your smartphone is a great tool for learning the English language, regardless of what your

  • 00:53

English teacher may have told you before, like, "Turn off your cell phone.

  • 00:58

Don't bring your cellphone to class."

  • 01:00

Go Natural English has a completely different opinion.

  • 01:04

I encourage you to use your smartphone all the time to help you to learn English and

  • 01:10

in this episode, I'm going to share my favorite five apps that are all free that can help

  • 01:17

you to improve your English quickly.

  • 01:20

    So are you ready?

  • 01:21

    Okay, let's go!

  • 01:23

My first favorite app is call Anki.

  • 01:26

It's an app that's like flashcards.

  • 01:30

Instead of having a big stack of flashcards on paper, Anki is better because, for one,

  • 01:37

it's on your smartphone, and two, Anki shuffles your cards.

  • 01:41

    It's smart.

  • 01:42

It doesn't show you predictable flashcards.

  • 01:45

Like you know how sometimes when you're practicing on your own and you know what flashcard is

  • 01:49

    going to come up?

  • 01:51

    It's not like that.

  • 01:53

    It's better.

  • 01:54

So, review is really important for you to remember new vocabulary and you need to see

  • 01:59

your words at least twenty times to be able to remember it and start to use it.

  • 02:04

    So, try Anki.

  • 02:06

Next, number two: My favorite app these days is Periscope.

  • 02:13

This is an app that's free and it integrates with Twitter.

  • 02:16

So you need a Twitter account, which is also free.

  • 02:20

Periscope is live streaming video, which is awesome.

  • 02:24

You can follow English speakers from anywhere in the world and when they're doing a live

  • 02:32

video broadcast, you can listen in and you can practice your English just like if you

  • 02:37

were in another country, listening to English speakers.

  • 02:40

And what's even better is that you can comment, you can ask questions, you can interact with

  • 02:46

    that person.

  • 02:48

And so I want to ask you to follow @gonaturaleng on twitter.

  • 02:54

That's where you can tune into our live broadcasts on Periscope.

  • 02:59

So, follow us on Twitter and follow us on Periscope at @gonaturaleng.

  • 03:05

    Okay?

  • 03:06

    Awesome!

  • 03:07

Next, Google Translate is an effective tool for looking up individual words.

  • 03:13

No, do not rely on Google Translate for everything all the time.

  • 03:18

I don't recommend it for looking up phrases or idioms or full sentences because it's not

  • 03:26

    a human.

  • 03:28

It's not a real, or good, translation usually.

  • 03:32

So, it is helpful, though, for individual words sometimes.

  • 03:36

So, keep it on hand, just in case you want to look up a word, but keep in mind that you

  • 03:43

need to double check to make sure that the result is correct, okay?

  • 03:48

    Alright.

  • 03:49

So, we have so far Anki, Periscope and Google Translate.

  • 03:55

Evernote is the next app that I want to suggest.

  • 03:58

It's a great way to organize all of these helpful resources.

  • 04:04

You can file away the websites you like, photos, audio notes, this video link, for example.

  • 04:13

Evernote is like a file cabinet in your smartphone.

  • 04:17

    It's really great.

  • 04:18

A lot of people swear by it for language learning, for business use and for personal use.

  • 04:24

And finally, number five: Skype or FaceTime.

  • 04:29

These are two awesome ways to be able to connect in live time on a video chat with an English

  • 04:36

speaker who you can practice with.

  • 04:38

So, keep that on your phone to make calls and to connect with people using English today.

  • 04:45

I hope that these apps are helpful and I hope this episode was informative for you.

  • 04:50

Remember you can come join my free training at gonaturalenglish.com/7steps and I hope

  • 04:57

you see inside where you'll get the free training and, once you're on that email list that's

  • 05:03

a part of the free training, I'll send you invites for webinars and other special trainings

  • 05:10

and materials that are just for the Go Natural English email list members.

  • 05:16

So I hope to see you there!

  • 05:17

    Bye for now.
