  • 00:11

Hello everyone! Thanks for watching my channel.

  • 00:14

Today I start a series of programs about my journeys.

  • 00:17

Right now I am at Helsinki-Vantaa airport,

  • 00:20

from whence in a few minutes my journey to Australia and New Zealand begins.

  • 00:25

So, I invite you to come with me.

  • 00:59

My acquaintance with Australia, as with the majority of tourists, I begin in Sydney.

  • 01:05

Sydney is not the capital city, however; it is the biggest city of the county,

  • 01:10

    the heart of Australia nowadays.

  • 01:13

The city perfectly suits those who are tired of the “Old World” and eager to see a “new,”

  • 01:18

    flourishing and vigorously developing one.

  • 01:23

However, many things here remind one about former links to the British Empire,

  • 01:27

starting from the British queen of the banknotes, the flag,

  • 01:32

and finally, the barracks for the prisoners who built the city.

  • 01:40

Despite the modernity, there is no feeling of fussiness, as in New York City for instance.

  • 01:52

There are many parks in the city.

  • 01:57

The Royal Botanic Gardens, for example, have an impressive collection of plants.

  • 02:10

    Flying foxes also live here,

  • 02:12

reminding everyone of their presence with sharp sounds.

  • 02:21

The bay exits to the Tasman Sea, making, in my opinion, a romantic atmosphere.

  • 02:31

On the city beaches you may find surfers.

  • 02:39

Of course, the most popular sight of the city is Sydney Opera House.

  • 02:44

This easily recognizable building, a project of the Danish architect Jørn Utzon,

  • 02:50

became the “visiting card,” of the city a long time ago.

  • 02:55

The famous Harbour Bridge is situated opposite the Opera house,

  • 02:59

    the largest bridge in Sydney.

  • 03:07

In the Sydney museum I have met the culture of local aborigines, original Australians.

  • 03:16

In their incredibly colorful paintings an absolutely different Australia is pictured,

  • 03:22

different from the contemporary point of view.

  • 04:06

There are plenty of wildlife parks around Sydney.

  • 04:10

In one of them I met, and even have had an opportunity to stroke a kangaroo, a koala and an ostrich.

  • 04:39

There were cockatoos, dingo dogs and even the penguins which live in warm conditions.

  • 05:08

The albino kangaroo and peacock are the real wonders of the park.

  • 05:23

But most of all I liked the Tasmanian Devil, which I have heard of, but never seen before.

  • 05:38

    Oh, dream city Sydney!

  • 05:41

Perhaps I would like to live here,

  • 05:44

but enough of dreaming. It’s time to move further.

  • 05:54

My journey continued to New Zealand.

  • 06:10

I start my New Zealand journey in the small town of Christchurch,

  • 06:14

which is located on the Southern Island.

  • 06:16

Unfortunately, there was a serious earthquake,

  • 06:20

and the center of the town became severely damaged,

  • 06:23

including the main sight – the cathedral.

  • 06:31

Tourists can only take photos of the fences surrounding the destroyed center.

  • 06:39

Let’s hope that the town will be restored, and its doors will be opened for everyone soon.

  • 06:57

Well… right now I am at the Christchurch railway station.

  • 07:01

It’s 6:30 AM in the morning and quite chilly.

  • 07:05

In just a few moments I will board this wonderful train

  • 07:08

which will carry me throughout the whole of New Zealand.

  • 07:18

Actually, the train by which I am traveling

  • 07:21

runs along the eastern part of the Southern Island only, along the Pacific ocean coast.

  • 07:28

Thus the train is called the “Coastal Pacific.”

  • 08:09

Once someone said, “Better than a sea can be only another sea.”

  • 08:14

Believe me, better than a sea can be only an ocean.

  • 08:50

Finally the “Coastal Pacific” has arrived at Picton, where some very unusual transport was waiting for me.

  • 09:12

I think you agree, there is no need for comments.

  • 09:15

All I can say that the Cook Strait can be crossed in three hours by the ferry,

  • 09:19

which was very quickly left behind by the plane.

  • 09:49

    I have arrived at Wellington.

  • 09:51

The city appeared modern, cozy and a little bit provincial at the same time.

  • 10:06

Probably an incompetent tourist would never think that he is in the capital of the country,

  • 10:11

unless he faced the impressive Parliament building, which is very often called simply the “Beehive.”

  • 10:37

Dear friends, my New Zealand journey continues. Right now I am on the Northern Island.

  • 10:44

Again I am traveling by train… from the city of Wellington to the National Park station.

  • 10:51

The last one is situated at the foot of Mount Ruapehu, the highest peak of the Island, if I am right…

  • 10:58

The mountain is also known to be an active volcano. So, I am going to stay there for 3 days and I will try to climb the mountain.

  • 11:09

    Well, let’s see what happens…

  • 11:41

This national park was named after Mount Tongariro.

  • 11:46

The Ruapehuas as well as Ngauruhoe, are also part of the volcanic massif of Tongariro.

  • 12:07

It’s hard to believe that such a still and peaceful place sometimes shudders upon eruption of these giants.

  • 12:16

That’s why, I think, the last one – Ngauruhoe, by the way here it is, in the clouds –

  • 12:22

appeared as Mordor in the “Lord of the Rings” movie.

  • 12:43

    My journey continues…

  • 12:46

the Northern Island’s tourism train the “Overlander” brings me to Auckland city, my final destination in New Zealand.

  • 13:05

Every new landscape view is more beautiful than the previous one.

  • 13:10

The evergreen nature of this country may really make an impression upon one.

  • 14:18

Auckland is found on the narrow neck between the Tasman Sea and the Pacific ocean,

  • 14:24

and is known by its weather’s changeability.

  • 14:27

Locals say: “If you don’t like the weather in Auckland, then just wait for 10 minutes”.

  • 14:37

It seems that Auckland tries to compete with Sydney in its architectural style.

  • 14:51

Auckland is considered not only the largest city of New Zealand, but of the whole of Polynesia as well.

  • 14:56

Moreover, it is a famous educational center. Students from all around Asia study here.

  • 15:13

Due to the picturesqueness of nature here, New Zealand has become an attractive place for filming.

  • 15:22

As in Australia, I would like to bring your attention to the culture of the Maori people, native inhabitants of the land,

  • 15:28

the language of whom has official status.

  • 15:32

The word “maori” means normal, natural, common.

  • 15:36

It was used to distinguish the common people from the gods whom the Maori believed in.

  • 15:43

I think you will agree that it is difficult to consider as normal bygone cannibalism ceremonies.

  • 15:49

Tattooing is another wonderful custom, which is used to mark people according to their social rang.

  • 16:02

New Zealand’s fauna cannot leave any zoologist untouched.

  • 16:07

As for me, I liked the kiwi bird the most.

  • 16:11

A pity, but this nocturnal creature is difficult to meet nowadays in nature.

  • 16:20

Well, there are a number of animals we shall not see alive anymore.

  • 17:00

Dear friends, right now I am in the Auckland airport, where my New Zealand trip comes to an end.

  • 17:06

My next stop will be the Great Barrier Reef. I am coming back to Australia.

  • 17:12

My airplane is delayed more then 3 hours. Hopefully I will have enough time to transfer in Sydney.

  • 17:48

As you may see, I made into my plane in time. However, it is better not to go into detail regarding this flight.

  • 17:57

Again I am in Australia, it is exciting and hotter than before.

  • 18:17

Unfortunately my excursion to the Great Barrier Reef was cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

  • 18:24

Well, I will have another chance to go there next time.

  • 18:39

Moreover, I had another unpleasant surprise by not being allowed to swim in the Coral Sea without a special protective swimming suit,

  • 18:48

because of the small dangerous jellyfishes all around the shore.

  • 18:53

Fortunately, there are artificial lagoons created in the towns close to the sea.

  • 18:58

Airlie Beach is one of those towns, and there I stayed.

  • 19:43

In a few days I departed to Melbourne, the last city in my journey.

  • 20:03

Melbourne is the second largest city of Australia, and the most southern city with a population of over a million people.

  • 20:11

You may easily hop off the free tourism tram running around the city centre and go sightseeing.

  • 20:21

    the Royal Exhibition Centre

such as my journey to Australia and New Zealand.

  • 22:03

I am very happy that I had an opportunity to visit these two wonderful countries.

  • 22:07

Of course I recommend that everyone come here.

  • 22:10

As a matter of fact, I just can add that the airplane you can see behind me

  • 22:14
