What's up, everybody?
Philcaela here and we are in New York City!
It's no secret Manhattan has amazing food and we can't show you all the spots.
We're spending a week here so we're gonna take you around to our favorite spots in Manhattan!
Let's go!!!
In the Flatiron area, we're here for lunch at KazuNori the original hand roll bar.
This place serves hand rolls, they're super delicious.
We got the 6 hand roll combo with the toro, yellowtail, salmon, scallop, crab and lobster.
I got all 6?
OK cool that was off the top of the head.
Anyway this place is awesome, you come in, it's bar-style seating, you sit right at the
bar, they bring the hand rolls they put them right in front of you.
You eat them, as soon as you finish it, they'll bring you the next one.
It's a pretty cool experience.
Definitely wouldn't recommend this with big groups.
This is best for groups of 4 or less, if you come with a big group you're not going to
be able to sit next to everybody, so recommend coming with smaller groups.
It's a quick bite, it's honestly a great place for lunch, too, just because it doesn't take
a lot of time, hand rolls come like this and this, like really fast.
So you can be in and out of here within like 40 minutes.
Overall the hand rolls are amazing here, the seaweed is super crunchy when you eat them
fresh.
Like when you bite into it, there's that crunch that you can hear.
I love that sound!
Mmm!
For dinner now, we are at Eataly, specifically the one in the Flatiron area.
It's a huge department store-like place for Italian food, they have several markets where
you can different kinds of Italian food, pastries, fish, fresh pasta, all kinds of stuff and
they also have a couple of different restaurants in here.
And we are specifically at the pizza and pasta restaurant.
We started off with an arugula salad, it was pretty good.
But, the reason we came here is for the pasta.
We got a pappardelle con funghi and we also got a tagliatelle al ragu, with the red sauce
here.
It's a good level of tomato sauce, the meat is braised very well, amazing every single
time we come!
Mmm!
I've had pappardelle many places before, but I think my favorite pappardelle pasta is Eataly
because they make it so well, it's very thin.
You don't really see much sauce or seasoning, but there's a lot of flavoring in this pasta
itself.
You can make reservations a couple of hours before, but don't show up without a reservation
otherwise you see yourself waiting about an hour or two.
Yes Eataly is pretty touristy, but that doesn't change the fact that the Italian food here
is still really good and it's definitely worth visiting, especially if you haven't been.
This is Xi'an Famous Foods, a really popular noodle shop with locations all over Manhattan.
So I got a spicy and tingly beef noodle, I'm being really careful because these noodles
are very long and I'm not trying to splash on myself because I tend to do that when I
eat noodles.
Oh my god look at these noodles, they're so long!
Really good!
Texture's super good.
The chili oil, it's not spicy but it's like a really good chili oil flavor.
The beef is really tender.
I ordered the most popular dish at Xi'an, the spicy cumin lamb noodles.
It's super long!
It has a very nice lightly spicy chili flavor from all the chili oil that's on it, and there's
that richness from the lamb.
And it's not too gamey.
I'm just impressed at how long these noodles are.
Definitely recommend eating in if you can, because if you take it out, it's just not
going to be the same.
There's locations all over the place so you're never too far.
This is Rubirosa on Mulberry Street, it's an Italian restaurant that's really well known
for its pizzas.
We ordered two large pizzas and they were LARGE, really huge!
We got a vodka pizza, we also got another large pizza that was half funghi, half supreme.
This is a vodka pizza and they're very known for this pizza here.
It's so good!
This is red sauce, but it's not your typical tomato red sauce because this is made with
vodka sauce so it's a little creamy so it's like a little different flavor but it's really
really good!
Out of the two, definitely recommend the vodka pizza, we could not get enough of that one.
It's a very popular restaurant, so definitely recommend trying to get reservations a couple
weeks in advance.
And next up we're getting food from a place that needs no introduction: Katz's Delicatessen.
It's a classic Jewish deli that's been around for over 130 years and they're most known
for their pastrami sandwich.
It's really loud and really crowded here so we're taking it to go, but I'll see you back
at the hotel with the pastrami!
And we have Katz!
Can't wait to eat it because the pastrami is so freaking bomb!
Ooh look at that!
Honestly this pastrami looks like brisket.
Probably the best pastrami that I've ever had.
They have other meats other than pastrami, but they're known for the pastrami so you
kind of have to get the pastrami.
You can get something else, but keep in mind, this is like the star of the show.
If you go during the middle of the day or during any peak hours, there's a line out
the door.
And a quick tip, don't be afraid to go to cutters 5, 6, and 7 because a lot of people
like to congregate around the front ones and there's a much shorter line actually for the
cutters down at the back.
Coming at you from the super hectic Chelsea Market, this is Los Tacos No.1, there's also
a location near Times Square, but we decided to check out the one in Chelsea Market.
We got an "abodaba," which is a pork-- say it again.
"Abodaba"?
Oh, ado-bada.
Adobada, right?
It's a tongue twister to say "adobaba."
Adobada!
We got an adobada, which is a pork taco and we also got a carne asada.
Once you place your order, you can ask for corn or flour tortilla and they make it fresh
right in front of you, so this is like fresh tortilla!
Hot!
Piping hot!
Oh my god.
Mmm spicy, but oh my god the meat is amazing, such great seasoning.
If you get the pork taco, there's like a red salsa in it and it's pretty spicy, so if you
can't handle spice, maybe say "no salsa."
Carne asada taco.
Wow!
Compared to California, I didn't expect New York tacos to be this good, but these are
bomb!
It's loaded with meat in there.
They're about $4 each, but they're super good quality.
And they're probably pricier than they should be, but they're delicious so check them out
if you're in Chelsea Market.
So we are at MaLa Project, which is dry pot.
Dry pot is hot pot without soup, so that's why it's called "dry pot."
You just pick all the ingredients that you like and then they cook it up and bring it
out in a little pot like this.
So we got like a mix of beef, beef tongue, a lot of veggies, enoki mushrooms, bok choy,
Chinese broccoli, fish filet, we got fish balls.
Somehow even though there's no broth in here, there's so much flavor in each bite.
It's just amazing.
To be honest, I was pretty skeptical about this place because it's hot pot without soup
so I was like "Phil, this is gross," but then I had it and it was really good.
We're at Bibble & Sip in Little Italy, this is actually their second location, the first
one's in Midtown, that's the original one.
We came here because they're known for their cream puffs and that's what we wanted to get
today.
Their cream puffs are amazing.
I love their matcha one, it's not too sweet, it's perfect.
I've actually never had their black sesame one so this is our first time trying this.
We've had their earl grey before, but I thought it was on the sweeter side, but it was just
too sweet for my liking.
Amazing!
Oh my gosh, I think the black sesame is the best one!
That cream is addicting!
And this location is definitely bigger than their original so if you wanna come here,
there's marble top tables, they're newer, so it's less popular, so we're not in a line
like the other location in Midtown.
Overall, I definitely really recommend this place, I would totally come here just to get
the cream puffs because the cream puffs are amazing!
We're stopping in for dinner now at La Tarte Flambee.
First thing we got was the French onion soup here and it's super good!
This is like very similar to what I had in Paris, so I'd say it's legit.
This is an Alsatian restaurant that has a lot of good tarte flambée and flammekueche,
which is basically if you took a pizza and a crepe and mixed them together.
We got two forestiere flatbreads.
So good!
They have bacon, mushroom, and caramelized onions on them.
Look how thin they are!
Yep this is how they make them back in France.
This the poulette, this is chicken.
Definitely prefer the forestiere over the poulette, but they're still both really delicious,
it's just that the forestiere is much more traditional.
Overall, this place has been really delicious, definitely a great place to come with a group
of friends and share some pizzas.
We got to Taiyaki in Chinatown about 20-30 minutes before it opened.
From Fridays to Sundays, they have their Japanese soufflé pancakes, which is like a special
from like 11AM-2PM.
So you have to come early just to have them.
If you come to Teriyaki, come early because we can see the line -- actually we can't even
see the end of the line right now.
11AM and they just took our order so we're really excited to try those soufflé pancakes!
Mmm!
It's very egg-y.
I don't know how they make it jiggle, but it's amazing.
It's super light, really soft, matcha cream is not too sweet, so it balances out really
well.
Final thoughts on this place, the pancakes are really good but they're definitely not
worth the hour-long wait.
If it's really on your bucket list, go for it, but again if there's a super long line,
it's not going to move very fast and, eh, just come back before they open.
Overall, it's really good, it's not too sweet, so it's a great snack.
Still tasty!
This is Joe's Shanghai, it's a restaurant in Chinatown.
People were talking about how awesome the soup dumplings here were, so we went ahead
and ordered a crab and pork soup dumpling and also a pork soup dumpling, and also a
side of pea sprouts.
There's so much soup in this!
Twice the size of a Din Tai Fung dumpling!
Oh my god hot!
Mmm!
Skin's really thin.
You have your dumpling.
Take a little nibble, and then you pour the soup out.
Oh my god this is going to fill the entire thing.
Don't do that!
How not to eat a soup dumpling.
Theressomuchsoupinhere.
Literally, a spoonful, and then you...
drink it.
Dip a little bit.
You can do whatever, but I like to do this.
This is from Fu Zhou.
Their food is really cheap here.
This was $2.50 and he got dumplings, and together it was like $5.
Just had some of these peanut noodles and they're freaking amazing.
Even for Chinatown, this is a great deal.
This is $2.50 for some super, super yummy noodles.
Highly recommend it!
It gets kinda busy in there and it's cash only, but you can't beat this price.
We're not too far from Times Square, we came into Joe's Pizza for a midnight snack, it's
just after 12AM right now, we came in and we got a supreme pizza and a Margherita one,
it's really popular with the late night crowd and definitely a must-visit if you're looking
for that New York slice.
Oh my god, I love Joe's Pizza!
Mmm!
Can you eat it, like, less gross?
So crispy on the bottom!
So thin!
This is Fish Cheeks, a really colorful, really hip Thai restaurant in NoHo.
We ordered a couple different things here, we started off with pork cheeks, really thinly
sliced, really delicious.
This is the most popular item on their Appetizers, it's pork cheeks, it's really tender and it's
thinly sliced and there's a lot of flavor in each bite.
It's just really good!
Pork cheeks are just always very good.
Here we have one of their most popular dishes, this is a coconut crab curry.
We also got some vegetables.
We also got a branzino, which is a grilled fish.
The coconut crab curry is apparently pretty spicy.
Oh you taste so much crab in there.
And it's super creamy from the coconut.
This is awesome, perfect over rice.
This branzino is delicious, as well, it's really flakey fish, has some nice spice to
it, the sauce they have with it is really good, too.
Branzino's super delicious, would definitely recommend it.
Something to keep in mind is that Fish Cheeks is more of a seafood-focused Thai restaurant,
so you're not gonna find stuff like Pad Thai and all kinds of noodles on the menu.
A lot of different kinds of protein, seafoods, have some veggies on the side.
Overall, would definitely recommend Fish Cheeks, the food was awesome, but make a reservation
before you show up because it's very busy.
We just got pizza from Prince Street Pizza.
Unfortunately there's no seating inside Prince Street Pizza, it's only one bar counter across
and it's very limited so maybe only less than ten people can fit there.
Took us around 30 minutes to get our pizza, took a while, but in the end it was worth
it.
If you're around Nolita and you're looking for a slice to-go, definitely recommend Prince
Street Pizza.
And that'll do it for our favorite eats in Manhattan.
Honestly, we hit up a lot of places, but we're not even scratching the surface on all the
food that Manhattan has to offer.
