So, you watch The Happening and you're like, "What the fuck!"

The trailer didn't even look bad. Like, the trailer actually looked like a good movie.

I don't understand. M. Night, you have all of these resources. You've got good actors, a good composer.

You've got everything going for you, and you screw it up.

What did you do? How did you do this? There is no way that the same person made The Sixth Sense, there is no way.

This is impressive. This is impressively bad.

[clip] The Happening is about an airborne virus that causes people to kill themselves; where did this come from?

[laughs]

[Shyamalan] Just say like that, huh?

For The Happening, the idea of, kind of, doing, um, this en... an event that's happening in a small area of, of the United States.

And people are dying, and they don't understand what's happening,

and everyone keeps throwing out theories, from terrorism to everything that could be happening.

A leak, nuclear leak, um, and nobody really knows what's happening.

[woman] You said in an interview, that, um,

"As a filmmaker, I want to be original and courageous, and I will never let the fear of being hurt dictate my decisions as a director."

But on this movie, um, Fox asked for extensive rewrites, and you did them, which is also a career first for you.

Was this because Lady was a commercial and critical disappointment?

Well, no. I don't think anything you've just said was true.

[laughs]

[YMS] I remember when this movie came out, and I hadn't even seen it.

All I remember is that everybody was telling me, "Don't see it. It's terrible"

And I asked them why, they're like, "It's plants."

It's plants. So there's your first problem, M Night, it's plants.

But it's not like you even did it in a way, where it was revealed at the end, like a twist, which might have been better;

it's blatantly explained throughout parts of the movie, and about halfway through, you already know what it is.

How can I take any of this seriously? How can I take THIS seriously? What is this?

[clip] My sister sent it to me. It was taken an hour at the Philadelphia Zoo.

Mother of God, what kind of terrorists are these?

[YMS] You know, when I watch this movie, I watch it as a comedy, cuz this is a really funny movie.

Most of the hilarity comes from Mark Wahlberg, who doesn't fit his character at all.

[clip] Nobody, certainly from my school days, would believed that I would be playing, excep...

especially, of all teachers, the science teacher. It was my worst subject.

I didn't tell that, er, to Night going in, obviously, because I wanted the role.

This movie's a little bit offset for you, you usually do a lot of action movies,

how do you feel about this movie in comparison?

Well, I always try to switch it up.

And, and one of the things I told him, is that you can't go to that steely, kind of, lockjaw, you know, tough-guy place,

that's not an option for this guy, he doesn't know how to do that.

So, if he's feeling vulnerable, you just have to be vulnerable.

[YMS] Somehow, they thought it was a good idea just to have Mark Walberg in a high-pitched voice,

and sound really concerned the whole time. And it was a good idea: it's hilarious.

[clip] - Planning on stealing something? - No. Ma'am, we're not.

- Plan on murdering me in my sleep? - What? No!

I was in a pharmacy a while ago; there was a really good looking pharmacist behind the counter.

Really good looking. I went up and I asked where the cough syrup was.

I didn't even have a cough.

And I almost bought it.

And I'm talking about a completely superfluous bottle of cough syrup. Which is... That's like six bucks.

You don't have an opinion?

You should be more interested in science, Jake. You know why?

Because your face is perfect.

[YMS] Everything about this movie is bad. Nothing makes any sense.

What are you doing? You don't run from the wind: that doesn't make sense.

That's not how wind works.

[clip] Duh, I was kinda doing this on some of the scenes in you movie, you know.

So, I'm like, "Where in the world are you thinking stuff up, you now?"

I've seen it, and it's very scary.

There's taboo things that happen in the movie. It is straight up the middle, and end of the world, you know, scare fest.

Overall rating: impressively entertaining.

[clip] Critics were especially scathing after Lady, and the allegation, of course, was it's a one trick pony.

Do you pay attention to the criticism, do you ignore it, does it make you introspect, what is your responce?

You know, I, you know, I don't know what I could do, other than sell out. That would make everybody happy.

So, you watch The Last Airbender and you're like, "WHAT THE FUCK! BOOM!"

[screams]

[clip] The Last Airbender recently came out, a classic for any of you filmgoers who need something to go see in theaters.

This is top of your list, M. Knight.

Wanna know what I think of M. Night?

Well, he's on track. He's back on track. He never left the track, though.

[YMS] Everything is wrong with this movie. The water that slashes people doesn't actually get them wet.

They casted the most goofy looking kids to play the characters, and they can't act for shit,

and the dialogue is absolutely hilarious.

[clip] Katara, do not hit that sphere.

- That child is being arrested - For what?

He was bending tiny stones at us from behind a tree. It really hurt.

[YMS] But something that I hear a lot of, is the problems with the casting.

I cast what I believe, and I bet you I'm not straying too far from the truth when I say that

it is the most diverse, culturally diverse movie ever made.

Let's look at the movie in and of itself.

I felt, when I saw Noah, that he was mixed race. Like, I didn't know his ethnic background.

So, I cast the Air Nomads, which is where he's from as all mixed-race.

So, when you see the Air Nomads in the movie, they're all...

They're not one ethnicity, there are, they're all mixed.
