hey Jonathan here this is today's tree it's a tiny little oak but completely

dead it's been dead for a couple years of Bark's falling off of it leaves

drastically towards the house and with it's so dead it's hard to control it

with a hinge cut so I don't want to just fall it because there's really the wood

so brittle that limbs actually touching the eave and I'm afraid if that limb

even broke and a whole tree would go through those big painting wind data

there so we don't want to do today is tie it off to the tree up above and I

want to do all of that without having to climb it so stay tuned and I'll show you how to tie

the top of the tree off it's only a big shot and a rope and control the the

falling cuts all right

so here we are with the Big Shot I shot it up through that crotch and the oak

above it with the throw line and then now my ground man is pulling the rope

through that crotch way up above and then he's going to tie that end off so

we don't lose it and then on the other end I'm going to throw it up over the

dead tree I have right here and then how I'm going to tie it off here it is I'm

gonna take the second end and tie a running bowline it is the splice end I'm

just going to run the splice through so there's my running bowline I'm going to

Snug it up so this end goes over the dead tree I have a big loop on the

ground and then once I have it all snugged up here then I'm going to Snug

up that loop on the ground so it goes straight from the top of the dead tree

straight up to the live tree above it and through that cross and then back

down to a wrap on another tree so there's a loop on the ground that's

where I had the other end tied off and now I'm just pulling it up so this is a

great way to tie into the top of a tree without actually having to climb it you

do need a throw line obviously to pull your ropes up and again the reason I'm

doing this is the tree is so dead and brittle you see the bark coming off

right there that I'm afraid to do anything with it

so it doesn't just break off and go through those big pain windows on the

house so now I have it roped off pretty well and what I'm going to do now is put

a tag line in the top of it so that black and white rope I just threw that

out it's just a pull line then my ground means on the ground on the lowering rope

the lowering rope goes pretty high up above the tree and then it's tied off to

the top of the tree you can see it on the left side of the

screen there so my ground man is both holding that with the full wrap on it

and also trying to film right here I'm just cutting all the bark off just so I

could see what I have see how rotten the actual trunk is soon as I told him I do

this job I was anxious to get it done because I was afraid a little bit of

wind this tree would have just blown right into that top paying window so

there I am cutting my face cut right there my tagline is just hanging down

there you can barely see it when I cut my face first the lowering rope is tied

off with the full wrap not tied off it has a full wrap on that look right there

on the left side screen I'm starting to come through the back and listening for

it the problem with dead oak like this it

just doesn't hinge at all it'll just move a little bit and then break right

off so you can see I'm trying to pull it and I need to cut this to hear more it

so I'm just cutting just a teeny bit more leaving a little bit of a hinge but

you can't really do these cuts and just pull them and break them with such back

lean weight towards the house and that's why I'm tied off at the top of the tree

so here I am on the tag line I'm just pulling a little bit here and I'm

pulling against the lowering rope a little bit so you can see I'm pulling it

now the lowering rope has the weight of the tree it's hard to tell but it's

actually pivoting down to parallel with the slope and then now the lowering rope

has the whole weight of the tree you can see now go straight vertically down from

the crotch and lowering from and my tag rope is just trying to keep that tree

Square to the parallel to the ground to the contour it will fall off the stuff

right here and then there it is nice and controlled so

probably an easier way to do it but I don't want to make any mistakes those

big pain windows would have been a disaster if I hid them so this is kind

of a cool technique I devised if you liked it please hit like if you have any
