You can probably guess how long ago, from how the kids have grown and that we've been

  • 00:56

    breeding again!!

  • 00:58

Back then, we did it over three days which we thought was a good pace but if you want

  • 01:03

to explore even more, you could easily make this a week-long trip - or even longer.

  • 01:09

That video has all of the timings and main sights you'll need but this one will give

  • 01:15

    you some alternative options.

  • 01:18

See what interests you, so you can plan your perfect California Road Trip!

  • 01:24

We're going to go north to south again so after leaving San Francisco, your first potential

  • 01:31

    stop is Santa Cruz.

  • 01:34

If you've flown into the Bay Area, you'll have spent some time by the water but not

  • 01:39

    at the beach.

  • 01:41

Santa Cruz is a great place where you can catch some rays and chill on the sand.

  • 01:45

As it's the birthplace of surfing on the US mainland, why not surf the same waves here?!

  • 01:53

The boardwalk has the fun of the fair but there are loads of restaurants, bars and hotels

  • 01:58

for you to get your Road Trip off to a "sweeeeeet" start.

  • 02:04

Just an hour away is Monterey, where you can get even closer to the ocean.

  • 02:11

The aquarium is world-famous and you should plan to be here for at least three hours,

  • 02:16

as it takes a while to get around - and it's quite pricey.

  • 02:24

I think this is the biggest fish tank in the whole wide world!

  • 02:30

Inside, though, is an experience which will put a smile on everyone's face!

  • 02:36

Where else would a diver do a talk to you from the middle of a tank?!

  • 02:44

It's all very 'hands-on' so younger travelers get to learn more about our marine life too.

  • 02:53

This place is literally the best aquarium in the world.

  • 02:57

It cost us $160 for us and two kids - the baby goes free - which is really expensive

  • 03:03

    - don't get me wrong - but it's worth every penny.

  • 03:06

It's got interactive bits for the kids: they can use their hands interact so it's so great

  • 03:11

    for their ages.

  • 03:15

For food and shopping, step out onto Cannery Row.

  • 03:19

The old industrial area is now working the tourists.

  • 03:23

It's a bit like Pier 39 in San Francisco, so it's very family-friendly.

  • 03:28

You're guaranteed ocean views wherever you decide to stop.

  • 03:31

Actors: "Are you new to Monterey?

  • 03:34

Yeah, we just moved here a few weeks ago.

  • 03:36

    You're gonna love it.

  • 03:37

    You're so nice!

  • 03:38

    This is Monterey!

  • 03:40

    We pound people with niceness.

  • 03:42

    To death!!"

  • 03:44

Today, Monterey is also now famous for its starring role in 'Big Little Lies.'

  • 03:49

Unfortunately, the outside coffee shop is a set for the show but you can still visit

  • 03:54

Lover's Point Park, where they built it.

  • 03:59

It's a stone's throw away from the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Club - and 17 Mile Drive,

  • 04:05

which is a mini Highway One in itself.

  • 04:10

Look at the view out there.

  • 04:14

    Nothing but fog!

your inner Reese Witherspoon or Nicole Kidman.

  • 04:34

Hmm, am I more Reese or Nicole?!!

  • 04:39

Things get very rustic as you enter Big Sur - and we wouldn't have it any other way!

  • 04:51

but you can actually sleep here too.

you can have a drink with your toes in the water!

  • 05:13

San Simeon is the next major stopping point.

nowhere - and it's right next to Hearst Castle.

    Rock you came to see!
