  • 00:00

Hello my name is Emanuel and in this video I'm going to show you how you can create a

  • 00:04

course through Garmin Connect and send it to your Garmin device.

  • 00:08

Now once you're logged in go ahead and click on this upper left icon and select courses.

  • 00:16

We're going to go to create course.

  • 00:28

Let's give our course a name.

  • 00:29

With Garmin Connect, you can create a bicycle course or a running course.

  • 00:35

In this particular example, I'm going to do a bicycle course.

  • 00:40

These solid green lines here, the dark green lines, are indications that there are no motor

  • 00:48

vehicles on these paths, so you are free to ride or run and not worry about any motor

  • 00:56

    vehicles.

  • 00:58

And then there are some lighter green segments.

  • 01:02

These are streets that have bike lanes.

  • 01:06

So if you're looking at doing some cycling and you see some roads that have a lighter

  • 01:13

green color to it, that means there is a bike lane on that street.

  • 01:20

And then you'll see a dotted green line, these are just preferred cycling routes.

  • 01:25

These are probably streets with low traffic that are preferred for cycling.

  • 01:32

Let's say I live in this neighborhood, I'll zoom in here and I'm going to switch to a

  • 01:39

satellite view which allows me to better picture where I'm going to start and stop at.

  • 01:49

So let's say I want to start in this parking lot right here.

  • 01:54

Now that I have my starting spot, I'm going to click back on map and in my settings, I

  • 02:03

    have "stay on road" checked.

  • 02:07

So this will allow me to...I can loosely click on the map and it will add the path to the

  • 02:17

closest road where my click is.

  • 02:21

So "stay on road", you can also do "mile markers" so you can see when your miles are starting

  • 02:27

    to appear on the map.

  • 02:29

So let's say I want to go this way, I can actually zoom out so that I can click further

  • 02:37

    along my path.

  • 02:39

Ok, so at this point I'm at six miles, so I can do a "reverse", if I click "reverse"

  • 02:47

that means I'm actually changing my start and ending point which means, I'm starting

  • 02:53

at this point and ending where I originally started the route.

  • 02:57

So I don't want to necessarily do that.

  • 02:59

I'm going to reverse it back.

  • 03:02

Alright, so at this point here, I could click "out and back" and what it will do is pretty

  • 03:13

much route me back to my starting point, so as you can see, mile 6, mile 7, mile 8, mile

  • 03:23

9, it takes me all the way back to where I started.

  • 03:26

The other thing I can do is a "loop to start."

  • 03:33

So if I actually...I'm going to undo my "out and back", if I do "loop to start", what it

  • 03:39

does is, it finds a path to get me back to my starting point, and it kind of just...I'm

  • 03:48

not sure how it picks it out, but it just finds a path to get you, it basically makes

  • 03:53

a loop out of your route.

  • 03:57

If you want to modify parts of your path, if you hover your mouse over a certain point

  • 04:06

you can just click and drag.

  • 04:08

Say I wanted to, I'm going to click on this point, I'm going to drag over to this

  • 04:17

road here and, Garmin Connect will re-adjust the route.

  • 04:26

So now that is a loop out to start.

  • 04:27

Now I don't normally use that option.

  • 04:31

So I'm going to show you exactly what I would do.

  • 04:34

If I wanted to...if I actually wanted to...say do part of the route back, what I'm going

  • 04:43

to do is...because I've already clicked on the road, I'm not going to click on it again

  • 04:47

because Garmin will think I'm trying to re-adjust my route, or add extra points, so what I'm

  • 04:56

going to do is click...I'm going to zoom in and I'm going to click a little bit off the

  • 05:03

    path.

  • 05:05

As you can see, the distance will continue to add up.

  • 05:08

So I'm technically riding this path back.

  • 05:12

Over here, so I'm at 7 miles.

  • 05:20

Let's just say I wanted to go on this route, so I'm just going to continue to click.

  • 05:29

It's going to show me that my route is 15.27 miles.

  • 05:36

So let's say that I want to ride at 17 miles per hour.

  • 05:41

That means that I'll get this route done in 53 minutes and 54 seconds approximately.

  • 05:49

Something else you can see, which is every helpful is the elevation.

  • 05:52

I'm going to expand this view.

  • 05:54

It gives me an idea of the elevation throughout my route.

  • 06:00

That's actually pretty handy as well.

  • 06:03

Alright, I think that pretty much covers this part of the course creation, so I'm going

  • 06:08

    to save it.

  • 06:10

Now at any point I can click on this pencil icon and edit the route.

  • 06:20

Now this lock here...I can make this course private or public.

  • 06:24

If I actually wanted to share this course with the people in my community, I can just

  • 06:28

    leave it unlocked.

  • 06:29

I can also click on the share option and I can share it over social media or through

  • 06:37

email, or I can even embed it on my website.

  • 06:41

But what we want to do here is, we want to send this to our Garmin device, so click on

  • 06:46

"send device" and it will allow you select the device that you want to send it to.

  • 06:50

If you have any questions just let me know but hopefully this helps you out a little

  • 06:54

bit, and I'll see you next time.
