  • 00:05

    Hey everyone,

  • 00:06

Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In today’s video, we’re going

  • 00:10

to be doing something a little bit different- we’re going to be discussing the aspects

  • 00:15

of love and relationships in Harry Potter. Throughout the series we see various romances

  • 00:20

blossom- they have their highs and they have their lows- and then, all of a sudden, the

  • 00:25

story just sort of ends. In today’s video, I’m going to be discussing the relationships

  • 00:30

that became solidified AFTER the books/films ended. We see some relationships become solidified

  • 00:36

DURING the story- like Remus and Tonks, but others are left a little open ended. I think

  • 00:41

that some of these are obvious, but a few of them are a little less obvious- so I’m

  • 00:46

curious to see if you know them all. Fortunately, Rowling expanded on the Harry Potter universe

  • 00:51

AFTER the story had ended- so we can indeed confirm that these matchups are canonically

  • 00:56

    consistent.

  • 00:57

    8. George Weasley And Angelina Johnson

  • 01:00

That’s right, George Weasley- of the Fred and George Weasley duo, ended up marrying

  • 01:05

Angelina Johnson-later Angelina Weasley. As we know, George and Fred were the closest

  • 01:11

of brothers- and they shared a beautiful friendship where they would spend every waking moment

  • 01:15

with one another. As you can imagine, after the loss of his brother and twin, George was

  • 01:20

a bit lost. The wizarding world had ended and peace had returned, but he now faced a

  • 01:25

new struggle- life without his brother. However, as we know, life must go on- and so he focused

  • 01:31

on his work, becoming quite successful. However, over time, George began to develop a relationship

  • 01:37

with a fellow Gryffindor graduate by the name of Angelina Johnson.

  • 01:42

Angelina Johnson was a witch born in 1977. She played a reasonably active role in the

  • 01:47

series- becoming a member of Dumbledore's Army, and also captaining the Gryffindor Quidditch

  • 01:52

team in her seventh year, which was also Harry's fifth year.

  • 01:56

George and Angelina ended up getting married and having children, but the unusual thing

  • 02:00

about their relationship is that Angelina was actually Fred’s ex. I’m not sure what

  • 02:05

the rules are surrounding dating your dead twins ex girlfriend, but it certainly sparked

  • 02:10

some controversy with fans. To make things slightly more unusual, one of their children

  • 02:15

was called FRED, Fred the II- and their daughter was named Roxanne.

  • 02:19

    7. Ron Weasley And Hermione Granger

  • 02:22

Moving on to ANOTHER Weasley. Now, this one is certainly more obvious, and it’s even

  • 02:27

included in the epilogue. HOWEVER, since then- even more information has been revealed about

  • 02:32

their relationship, so I wanted to give you everything that I know.

  • 02:36

Starting right at the beginning, Ron and Hermione were butting heads. They drove each other

  • 02:40

mad, constantly hurled insults at one another, and had more than one falling out. HOWEVER-

  • 02:45

they always came back to each other, and as they grew older the mutual unspoken attraction

  • 02:50

became more and more prevalent. What many might not realize, however, is that Ron started

  • 02:55

developing these feelings of affection as early as the second book- when he became irritated

  • 03:00

by her crush on Gilderoy Lockhart.

  • 03:02

In the fourth book, their romantic feelings really began building up, and by the time

  • 03:06

the sixth book rolled around- it was UNDENIABLE- who were they kidding?

  • 03:10

After the war ended, Ron and Hermione got together and had two children- Rose and Hugo.

  • 03:15

Oddly enough, after the series ended Rowling expressed that she regretted putting them

  • 03:19

together- breaking the hearts of many fans. She even remarked that they would likely need

  • 03:24

some marriage counselling. Maybe Harry was the mediator they always needed to make it

  • 03:28

    work.

  • 03:29

"Oh, maybe she and Ron will be alright with a bit of counselling, you know. I wonder what

  • 03:33

happens at wizard marriage counselling? They'll probably be fine. He needs to work on his

  • 03:38

self-esteem issues and she needs to work on being a little less critical."

  • 03:41

    6. Luna Lovegood And Rolf Scamander

  • 03:44

After the war ended, Luna Lovegood ended up becoming quite a famous young Magizoologist-

  • 03:49

staying true to her love of magical creatures. For those unfamiliar with the profession,

  • 03:53

a magizoologist is a wizard or witch who studies magical creatures.

  • 03:58

One of the most notable Magizoologist’s in Harry Potter is Newt Scamander, who wrote

  • 04:02

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And interestingly enough, Luna actually went on

  • 04:07

to marry Rolf Scamander, Newt’s grandson. Rolf was a British wizard that worked for

  • 04:12

the daily prophet and became a magizoologist himself. It has been expressed that for their

  • 04:17

wedding Luna dressed in typical eccentric Luna fashion- sporting a rainbow dress and

  • 04:22

    tiara with unicorn horns.

  • 04:24

Later on, sometime between the years 2008 and 2014, the pair had two sons- Lorcan and

  • 04:31

    Lycander.

  • 04:32

Some fans were upset by this news- as many speculated that Luna and Neville would have

  • 04:36

been a good pair. However, Rowling had different plans for Neville..

  • 04:40

    5. Neville Longbottom And Hannah Abbott

  • 04:43

This is an interesting one that sort of comes out of left field. Neville and Hannah are

  • 04:47

never really shown as being intimate with one another- to add to this, they were in

  • 04:51

different houses. Hannah was a half-blood witch that began studying at Hogwarts in the

  • 04:55

same year as Neville, but she ended up in Hufflepuff. We of course know that Neville

  • 05:00

    was a Gryffindor.

  • 05:01

HOWEVER- there are a few connections that can be made between the two that potentially

  • 05:05

serve as reasons for them inevitably ending up together. First of all, both of them were

  • 05:10

in Dumbledore’s Army- so they had that going for them.

  • 05:13

Next, they shared Herbology lessons together- this was made possible because Gryffindor

  • 05:17

and Hufflepuff students shared this class in their year. Neville excelled at Herbology,

  • 05:22

which probably meant that his environment lead to a more charismatic, confident Neville-

  • 05:27

one that could send an arrow from Cupid’s bow in to the heart of a young Hannah Abbott.

  • 05:31

Furthermore, in the Battle of Hogwarts, Neville was an absolute stud- so he likely impressed

  • 05:36

many female suitresses. The pair never ended up having children (as far as we know)- but

  • 05:42

we do know that they moved in together above the Leaky Cauldron- where Hannah worked as

  • 05:46

a landlady. As I mentioned above, many were upset that he didn’t end up with Luna- but

  • 05:51

I guess it just wasn’t meant to be!

  • 05:53

    4. Draco Malfoy And Astoria Greengrass

  • 05:56

That’s right- even Draco Malfoy found love in the form fo Astoria Greengrass. Draco is

  • 06:01

mentioned a little bit in the epilogue, but we don’t get MUCH information, so I’m

  • 06:06

    here to expand on things.

  • 06:08

While attending Hogwarts, Draco never seemed to express much interest in the opposite sex.

  • 06:12

However, many speculated that Pansy Parkinson, a fellow Slytherin, would have been a perfect

  • 06:17

pairing for young Draco. However, that never came to fruition, and instead, Draco ended

  • 06:23

up marrying Astoria Greengrass, a girl that was two years below him at Hogwarts. Unfortunately,

  • 06:29

Draco’s parents didn’t think particularly highly of the pairing, as per Pottermore:

  • 06:34

“Draco married the younger sister of a fellow Slytherin. Astoria Greengrass, who had gone

  • 06:38

through a similar (though less violent and frightening) conversion from pure-blood ideals

  • 06:43

to a more tolerant life view, was felt by Narcissa and Lucius to be something of a disappointment

  • 06:49

as a daughter-in-law. They had had high hopes of a girl whose family featured on the ‘Sacred

  • 06:53

Twenty-Eight’, but as Astoria refused to raise their grandson Scorpius in the belief

  • 06:58

that Muggles were scum, family gatherings were often fraught with tension.”

  • 07:02

As mentioned above, the pair had a child- Scorpius Malfoy, who attended Hogwarts at

  • 07:07

the same time as Albus Severus Potter.

  • 07:10

In a tragic turn of events Astoria actually ended up dying quite young- falling victim

  • 07:14

to a bloodborne family curse. This left Draco a single father.

  • 07:19

    3. Harry And Ginny

  • 07:21

Another obvious one, but again-there might be some things that you don’t know. JK Rowling

  • 07:25

discusses Harry’s relationship with Ginny further:

  • 07:28

"The plan was, which I really hope I fulfilled, is that the reader, like Harry, would gradually

  • 07:33

discover Ginny as pretty much the ideal girl for Harry. She's tough, not in an unpleasant

  • 07:38

way, but she's gutsy. He needs to be with someone who can stand the demands of being

  • 07:42

with Harry Potter, because he's a scary boyfriend in a lot of ways. He's a marked man. I think

  • 07:48

she's funny, and I think that she's very warm and compassionate. These are all things that

  • 07:52

Harry requires in his ideal woman."

  • 07:54

At first it seemed like Harry and Ginny would never be able to happen. Ginny was his best

  • 07:58

friend’s sister! Harry didn’t know what to make of Ginny at first, but after the events

  • 08:02

of the Chamber of Secrets he began to see her as more than just his friend’s little

  • 08:06

sister, and instead her own confident young person. However, at this stage he certainly

  • 08:11

didn’t have romantic feelings for her.

  • 08:14

In 1996, however, all of that changed. Harrys’ relationship with Cho had recently fallen

  • 08:19

to pieces, and Harry began spending a considerable amount of time with Ginny at the burrow over

  • 08:24

the summer. In his first potions class with Slughorn, the love potion Amortentia revealed

  • 08:29

he was attracted to "something flowery he had smelled at the Burrow". This smell later

  • 08:34

turned out to be the smell of Ginny's hair. Furthermore, after witnessing her kissing

  • 08:38

Dean Thomas, Harry started to feel jealousy- confirming that he did in fact have feelings

  • 08:43

for her. Shortly after this time period, the pair shared a subtle romance and even exchanged

  • 08:48

a few kisses, however, it wasn’t until AFTER the war that things really picked up. Eventually,

  • 08:54

the pair got married and had three children- Lily Luna, Albus Severus, and James Sirius.

  • 09:00

    2. Percy Weasley and Audrey

  • 09:02

AHHH...another Weasley eh *sorting hat voice*.

  • 09:06

That’s right, even Percy- the ‘difficult’ Weasley, ended up finding happiness and love

  • 09:11

in the form of a witch named Audrey, whose maiden name we don’t know. In fact, very

  • 09:16

little is known about the relationship of Percy and Audrey- but we do know that they

  • 09:20

had some children! Their two daughters were named Molly and Lucy.

  • 09:24

    1. Bellatrix Lestrange and Voldemort

  • 09:27

This is a weird one, and while their intimacy was revealed AFTER the series ended- they

  • 09:31

technically must have gotten together DURING the series, and we know this because of their

  • 09:35

daughter- Delphini. She was conceived sometime in the mid to late 1990s, in secret, at the

  • 09:41

Malfoy Manor, and her birth did actually coincide with the events of the original books - we

  • 09:46

just never had any indication of it.

  • 09:48

Though Bellatrix was a notorious mass murderer- she did have a soft spot for the man that

  • 09:53

she served, Lord Voldemort. This was obvious. But what’s less obvious is that Voldemort

  • 09:58

shared some kind of mutual attraction. My own PERSONAL theory is that Bellatrix used

  • 10:03

a love potion on Voldemort, and if you want to hear more about that, check out the video

  • 10:08

link which I’ll leave at the bottom of the description.

  • 10:10

Their relationship obviously falls in to Cursed Child territory, which I know a lot of you

  • 10:15

don’t appreciate, so you can take this ‘relationship’ however you want.

  • 10:19

And that’s it for this video! Did you learn something about LOVE in the wizarding world?

  • 10:24

  • 10:25

    Until next time

  • 10:26

    Remember

  • 10:27

Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts

  • 10:30

    are open.
