Should you still buy the black bay 58 in  2022? Is it still the one to get? WIFE: "No

Since this iteration the lineup has grown,  a gold a silver believe it or not a bronze  

and of course the navy blue I have the  noir the best one let's check it out

the black bay 58 when this watch  was announced at baselworld I was  

blown away and it was instant love and I knew  right at that moment that that watch was gonna be  

mine is it kind of boring yeah you know what yeah  yeah it kind of is but that's its biggest strength  

I don't want a flashy look at me tool watch I  want a subtle beauty and that's what this is it's  

classic and gorgeous with perfect proportions  three years later saving my pennies and I got  

it I had to wait about a month on the wait list  but that's deceiving the five ads in my general  

area they all had the blue version in stock or  the gilt noir but on a leather strap or on a NATO  

so the bracelet was the thing i was waiting for  and no they wouldn't just swap it out for me this  

watch reminds us of the legendary James bond the  nickname for the Rolex 6538 submariner and that  

might have something to do with its popularity  however in 1954 the first Tudor oyster prince  

sub mariner was released reference number 7922 and  then there was 7923 that was manual wind and then  

in 1958 7924 nicknamed the big crown by the  enthusiasts because it had a 8 mil crown this one  

6.7mm so a little bit smaller and it doesn't  have the greatest grip but it is solid with  

amazing haptics giving the watch 200 meters of  water resistance and that original black bay 58  

was a 37 mil watch so keeping true to  most recreations by brands it does grow  

just a hair in size the watch usually gets  slightly bigger the watch does have some  

pedigree the us and French navies preferred  them due to their lower cost over the Rolex  

and their amazing performance the k-shape is that  vintage Tudor oyster prince submariner design  

through and through with a beautiful high  polished beveled edge that carries all the  

way across that case down the lugs to the other  side that is a stunning look I used to love that  

look on the old five digit subs but now it's  disappeared but luckily Tudor has given us  

this classic gem back in modern times the top of  the lugs are brushed it reminds me of the old five  

digit brushing now these are the measurements  that I got 39 millimeters even in diameter  

and the secret measurement the bezel is  exact same a thickness of 11.8 unbelievable  

now if you do get one of the other new variants  that have the display case back they're going  

to be a bit thicker at 12.8 which kind of takes  away from one of the watch's greatest strength  

it's wearability no drilled lugs and a lug to lug  are 47.7 fantastic proportions a magical magical  

watch gonna wear perfect on almost every wrist  now that bezel beautiful fine coin edge ultra thin  

with anodized aluminum insert my favorite insert  and when it does scratch it just it patinas nicely  

so I'm a big fan of it and I'm so glad they  used it if this watch had a ceramic bezel insert  

I would not own this watch it's as simple and as  black and white as that now let's have a listen

it feels so premium

ultra smooth and buttery the resistance is perfect  the clicks are precise it sounds beautiful and it  

is a 60 click not a 120 unidirectional dive time  bezel I think the best bezel in the industry  

it's a joy to use when you pull the crown out  to its furthest position there's absolutely no  

play it is solid the case has a little  bit of a sleeve but the crown does not  

all right so it's one click because there's no  date which is another big draw for me I love  

the symmetry without the date now that sapphire  crystal does have AR and it's a beautiful domed  

boxed sapphire look at that gorgeous gorgeous  crystal and even though it sticks out about  

two mils it's still under 12 thick unbelievable  now the dial on hand's matte black texture dial  

but it's a subtle texture you have to go extreme  macro to notice it but it's beautifully done and  

adds a little bit of character to this stunning  timepiece the hands are gold and the indices are  

gold not real gold like the bigger brother it  is plated I'm a huge fan of the Tudor shield  

I know some people would prefer the rose but  not me we have the rose on the crown that's good  

enough I feel like the shield is more tough tool  watch vibe and it suits this watch perfectly the  

rose maybe maybe a tad feminine we do have a lot  of text at the bottom officially certified I could  

do without 200 meters I don't mind and chronometer  I don't mind but officially certified get that out  

of here the rehaut is brushed stainless steel  316l just like the rest of the case and it is  

plain there is no tutor all the way around that  would be cool if they added that now the bracelet  

20 mil tapering down to 16. we do have the faux  rivets giving it character I've seen the watch  

with a strap code without the rivets and it just  looks almost naked without it you got to have  

them I love them the bracelet isn't the greatest  there's no half links luckily it fits me perfectly  

we only have three micro adjusts but we do have  ceramic ball bearings right here flip lock right  

there you can see them they're white so this  bracelet is gonna last you a long time the new  

bronze version of this watch has a glide lock  called I think t-lock or something for Tudor  

and I wish they put it on the black bay 58 that's  gonna be a great upgrade with fully milled clasp  

solid links solid end links of course as well and  everything feels high quality it's a beautiful  

bracelet overall and feels very nice on the wrist  I was wearing this once and I panicked I'm like oh  

my god I'm not wearing a watch and I was wearing  my black bay 58 that's how comfortable it is  

the only other watch that tricked me like that  was my king Seiko I'm wearing right now it's  

the only other watch I forgot I was wearing a  watch so ultra comfortable unbelievable big fan  

now the price this one comes in I believe the  price increased this year $3700 USD it's hard  

to find the USD price when you're in Canada but  that's the price if I'm wrong guys please add  

value to the video by putting it down below now  what's the competition for this watch sea master  

yeah it's too much money and if you're if you're  uh a long time sub you know how I feel about the  

sea master maybe the new caliber 400 Oris Aquis  $3500 USD that one's pretty good and the movement  

I would say on par maybe even a little bit better  with the 10-year warranty five-day power reserve  

I think the Oris makes a strong case for itself  but it has a marmite design it's more of a flashy  

tool watch so guys tell me what you think is  the best competitor to the black bay 58 I'm  

curious here she is on my six and a half inch  wrist and man it wears perfect look at that under  

12 for a tough tool watch it's just perfection  with a dramatic taper in love with it the way it  

sits is just just phenomenal good god this watch  is perfect 130 grams okay pretty good under 150  

feels lightweight and like I mentioned before I  forgot it was on my wrist that's how comfortable  

okay we're gonna see how she performs on  the timegrapher with the new caliber mt5402  

fully in-house developed just for the black bay  58 but will surely be used in future watches  

70 hours of power 27 joules hack and  wine automatic and look at these numbers  

no error one one one one and  three hundred amplitude amazing

okay we're going to do 12 down now to see  the positional variance how it will react  

on your wrist cost certified officially plus  six minus four as we can see here it's doing  

a lot better negative one negative  one 286 amplitudes so a small drop  

now back up to zero zero point one  milliseconds in the air exact same  

and look at this consistency such a clean  beautiful line ten year service interval this  

movement is amazing plus one dial up zero 12  down good job Tudor okay here is the lume shot  

legibility is fantastic with the snowflake hands  the 7924 reference that this watch is based on had  

Mercedes handset this one the legendary snowflake  handset and I'm a fan of snowflake handset it has  

a rugged look to it very flat and big and broad  compared to the Mercedes handset width it's gentle  

curve and roundness now it's 20 22 and the black  bay 58 still reigns supreme there is no competitor  

really that comes close to adding this much value  I think they could have priced this watch at 5 000  

because of the connection with its older brother  Rolex but they didn't do that which gives me  

tremendous respect for Tudor because they easily  could have because this watch definitely deserves  

it it has perfect proportions it's absolutely  stunning it has history and the movement is  

just unbelievable so as you can tell I'm happy  with my purchase and it is a lifetime watch
