  • 00:03

My name is Jose Mendoza Ramirez

  • 00:06

and my doubt is that if exorcists really exist,

  • 00:10

sometimes they come to swindle us.

  • 00:14

Thank you very much Jose for that comment or question.

  • 00:18

As we can notice in Jose’s video submission, he’s wondering or maybe it's more accurate

  • 00:24

to say, doubting if there really are people who can perform what he calls, exorcisms.

  • 00:32

Because he feels that, well there are people who are just swindling others or being deceptive

  • 00:39

for the purpose of dishonest gain.

  • 00:42

So today, dear friends, we're gonna ask, well, two important questions based on

  • 00:47

    what Mr. Jose has said.

  • 00:49

First of all, what is exorcism and are there those who can really, truly perform them?

  • 00:58

And then secondly, if one can perform, does perform such a miraculous work, is that the

  • 01:06

evidence that, that person is really sent from God?

  • 01:11

And of course then, should therefore be followed and believed and everything that they will

  • 01:17

    teach and say?

  • 01:18

Let’s start by defining exactly what is: exorcism.

  • 01:25

Exorcism, from the dictionary, well it's the act of casting out or expelling an evil spirit

  • 01:30

    or demon from someone.

  • 01:33

The dictionary calls it or considers it to be a noun.

  • 01:36

The act, or even process of exorcising.

  • 01:40

As a verb: exorcised or exorcising.

  • 01:43

To seek to expel (an evil spirit) by adjuration or religious or solemn ceremonies: to exorcise

  • 01:52

    a demon.

  • 01:54

In the Church Of Christ, by the way, dear friends, we don't really use that term exorcism.

  • 02:00

    Why not?

  • 02:03

By watching all our programs you should know the answer already.

  • 02:06

We wouldn't use that term, why not?

  • 02:08

Because it's not a Biblical term.

  • 02:12

So according to the Bible, are there really those that can perform exorcisms, or what

  • 02:19

the Bible describes as the casting out of evil spirits or casting out of demons?

  • 02:26

Let's go to the Bible to start receiving some Biblical guidance and answers to this.

  • 02:30

So it may be that the term "exorcism" is not found in the Bible, but, what is found in

  • 02:38

    the Bible?

  • 02:39

    Matthew 8:16, I quote:

  • 02:42

“When evening came, people brought to Jesus many who had demons in them.

  • 02:49

Jesus drove out the evil spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.”

  • 02:57

So we can read here in the Bible dear friends, where Jesus he did have the ability or the

  • 03:02

power, the authority to perform, what Jose called "exorcism" or the casting out of

  • 03:08

    evil spirits.

  • 03:10

Is he the only one that had that ability or had that authority according to the Bible?

  • 03:18

    Well let's continue.

  • 03:19

The Bible also teaches us the following.

  • 03:22

    In Matthew 10:1,

  • 03:27

“Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to drive out evil

  • 03:35

spirits and to heal every disease and every sickness.”

  • 03:41

So evidently according to the Bible exorcism did take place or the casting out of demons

  • 03:47

    did happen.

  • 03:49

And The Bible mentions those, for example, our Lord Jesus Christ and in this verse,

  • 03:53

His Apostles were given that authority to drive out evil spirits.

  • 04:01

They were able to perform that miraculous work.

  • 04:06

And there is no question of course that our Lord Jesus Christ, even His Apostles, and

  • 04:12

others enumerated in the Bible just like them, are in fact instruments of God.

  • 04:18

    There is no question.

  • 04:20

That they are specifically because they're specifically described that way in the Bible.

  • 04:25

That they were given that authority from God.

  • 04:29

And as instruments sent by God–or messengers of God–and we should follow them.

  • 04:38

We should obey what they teach.

  • 04:40

    Why?

  • 04:41

Because what they teach are God’s teachings.

  • 04:44

    They are God’s messengers.

  • 04:48

    And they bring God’s message.

  • 04:51

But does it mean though, that just anyone who is able to perform miracles, and this

  • 04:57

is the point that Mr. Jose is posing, this is what he's noticing this is what he was

  • 05:03

    commenting about.

  • 05:04

Because he saw some that were performing miracles or some that were claiming to have all these

  • 05:09

    wonderful things.

  • 05:10

And then they were deceiving and swindling the people.

  • 05:13

So does it mean that anyone who performs miracles, this is our question Mr. Jose, anyone performing

  • 05:19

miracles and casting out demons, can it be said they, therefore are a messenger of God?

  • 05:28

In turn than to be followed and obeyed?

  • 05:32

Is the casting out of demons or other kinds of miracles or healings and such, is that

  • 05:38

the only proof that is necessary to determine that one is truly an instrument of God?

  • 05:45

Let's listen together dear friends, to the answer of our Lord Jesus Christ, you know,

  • 05:49

to those who feel that they are with Him, well because, well maybe they were able to

  • 05:54

    cast out demons.

  • 05:55

Maybe they're performing different kinds of wondrous works.

  • 06:00

Here's the response of Jesus to them.

  • 06:02

It's recorded here in Matthew 7:22-23, He said this:

  • 06:11

“Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name,

  • 06:19

cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’

  • 06:25

And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice

  • 06:32

    lawlessness!’”

  • 06:35

Well here dear friends, according to what is written, Jesus Himself, well He cleared

  • 06:40

up any misconception that if one is able to perform exorcisms, as Mr. Jose calls them,

  • 06:46

or the casting out of demons, or any other miracle for that matter, even if one uses

  • 06:52

    the name of Christ.

  • 06:56

The idea of many is well, then that automatically proves, or presents the evidence, that they

  • 07:02

    must be God’s messengers.

  • 07:06

But we can see from what Jesus said here, that's simply not true.

  • 07:10

Christ, who is, of course, the greatest messenger of God and He's the One who knows those who

  • 07:17

truly God has sent, because He is the only Mediator between God and men in the first place,

  • 07:24

He said of some who performed the casting out of demons and performed the grand healings

  • 07:30

and other kinds of miracles, what did he say to them?

  • 07:33

He said, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practices lawlessness!”

  • 07:40

    But you know.

  • 07:41

Some might be wondering, “how is it than that, one who's not sent by God is able to

  • 07:48

perform such kind of wonders and miracles and healings and casting out of demons and

  • 07:54

all these things if he is not doing God’s work, then well, whose work is he doing?”

  • 08:02

Let's turn to the writings of the scriptures once again, for the Bible's answer.

  • 08:06

We turn, II Thessalonians 2:9-10 which says this:

  • 08:11

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs,

  • 08:21

and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because

  • 08:31

they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

  • 08:37

Here dear friends what we can see, what we're learning here is that Satan can use miracles.

  • 08:43

Satan does use miracles, uses wonders, in his attempts to deceive.

  • 08:49

This means that Jose’s, you know when Mr. Jose presented those doubts and skepticism,

  • 08:56

    it actually has some validity.

  • 08:58

    Why?

  • 09:00

Because the devil himself uses these powers to swindle people.

  • 09:04

To deceive people according to what we just read here from Apostle Paul.

  • 09:08

So, if these miracles, signs or wonders are used by the devil to deceive people, one might

  • 09:17

ask, “well why does God allow that to happen?

  • 09:20

Why does he allow these things to take place?”

  • 09:25

Listen again to the answer of the Holy Bible, here in Deuteronomy 13, let's read together

  • 09:34

    verses 1-3,

  • 09:38

“Prophets or interpreters of dreams may promise a miracle or a wonder, in order to

  • 09:46

lead you to worship and serve gods that you have not worshiped before.

  • 09:53

Even if what they promise comes true, do not pay any attention to them.

  • 10:01

The Lord your God is using them to test you, to see if you love the Lord with all your

  • 10:10

    heart.

  • 10:12

So dear friends, according to the Bible here, if any one of us would witnesses somebody

  • 10:18

performing what appears to be a miracle.

  • 10:22

A miraculous event takes place or it's a grand wonder, they should not automatically listen,

  • 10:29

automatically perceive that, that someone to be followed because they're from God.

  • 10:35

    No.

  • 10:36

We already learned earlier that the devil could use these powers to deceive people.

  • 10:43

And here now we learn that, well, why does God allow that to happen?

  • 10:48

In order to test His people.

  • 10:51

    Why?

  • 10:53

To see if they really love Him with all their hearts.

  • 10:57

    And they'll cling to this.

  • 11:01

If that were the case, then how would one, how would any one of us, go about passing

  • 11:06

    God’s test?

  • 11:07

If God does not want us to pay attention or be just so easily duped by Satan's deceivers,

  • 11:14

He just wants us to pay attention to and not follow just anyone who might claim to come

  • 11:22

    from God.

  • 11:24

    Even if they perform miracles.

  • 11:26

Even if they perform various kinds of wonders, then whom should we follow?

  • 11:34

We find the answer in the very next verse of the Bible.

  • 11:40

Deuteronomy 13, this time we'll read verse 4 wherein it says this:

  • 11:47

“It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere.

  • 11:53

Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”

  • 12:01

So dear friends, the answer is very clear.

  • 12:03

In order to pass God’s test, one must follow God by obeying His commands and as we can

  • 12:09

clearly, and we already know that His commands are what are written here in the Holy Bible.

  • 12:16

And so that this is the reason why performing miracles or wonders, like exorcism, the casting

  • 12:23

out of demons, it's not a basis we can use to determine if someone is really from God.

  • 12:31

    Why not?

  • 12:32

Because even if one is able to perform such miracles, it could easily be God’s enemy,

  • 12:38

the devil, trying to trick us into going against God’s words.

  • 12:45

We should understand that, well, those sent by God, they will speak God’s words.

  • 12:53

They will teach God’s teachings and God's commands written here in the Bible.

  • 12:59

Therefore that is what we should always follow.

  • 13:03

That's what we should always use as a foundation of our faith.

  • 13:09

This is what we should firmly believe in, because, That’s in the Bible.
