  • 00:01

I cannot believe that we have finally made it back here.

  • 00:08

    We're Jana and Brett.

  • 00:09

Since our honeymoon nine years ago, we've spent more than 24 months living and traveling

  • 00:14

    in Europe.

  • 00:15

So far, we're ventured to 25 countries, but our goal is to visit every country in Europe,

  • 00:19

and to explore every nook and cranny of the Alps.

  • 00:22

Today we're traveling from our hometown of Nashville, TN back to the Alps for the first

  • 00:26

    time since September, 2020.

  • 00:40

    No problem.

  • 00:54

We breezed right through security in less than five minutes.

  • 00:57

That was our first experience with TSA Pre-Check, and I'm pretty thrilled with it.

  • 01:01

    It was awesome.

  • 01:02

We hoped to fly through there because–we were gonna go to the Minute Suites, which

  • 01:07

is kinda like a mini hotel within the airport, but it was in a different lounge.

  • 01:12

We have a problem: the Minute Suites are that way.

  • 01:16

There's a dude, there, standing between us and the Minute Suites.

  • 01:21

    I don't think it's safe to cross.

  • 01:25

So we're never really sure what things will be like because of COVID.

  • 01:30

So we get to the airport before 6 a.m., and I think it's pretty crowded.

  • 01:34

Of course there's face masks required, lots of hand sanitizer.

  • 01:38

But overall, it feels like things are back to normal.

  • 01:42

    Separate and Sanitize.

  • 01:44

    Be safe.

  • 01:46

    Be well.

  • 01:48

    Be Nashville.

  • 01:50

I wonder if I can get enough points and miles for a free flight by paying for this massage

  • 01:54

    with a credit card?

  • 02:01

    Here we go!

  • 02:20

    Our first plane.

  • 02:27

We're on our way to Switzerland!

  • 02:28

We are on our first flight to JFK.

  • 02:29

It is a teeny-tiny plane, like 50 seats, and it's not even halfway full.

  • 02:48

Well, we finished our first flight, but the adventure is only beginning.

  • 02:56

We're here in New York, and we don't have boarding passes yet for our next flight.

  • 02:59

I think they're wanting to check all our documents to make sure we really can get into Switzerland.

  • 03:04

So we're on the way to see if we can find our boarding passes.

  • 03:06

Let's catch you up on what has happened over the last few hours.

  • 03:13

So we left our plane from Nashville at about 10 a.m, and we told you we were going to look

  • 03:19

for our boarding passes because Swiss Airlines had not been able to give those to us yet.

  • 03:23

So we asked somebody where we could get our boarding pass, and they told us we had to

  • 03:27

exit security, go back to the Swiss Air desk, and get our boarding passes there.

  • 03:32

And we're here, at the check-in counter, and there's no one here with us.

  • 03:36

That was totally a rookie mistake.

  • 03:38

I mean–we did it because that's what the airline employee told us to do, but–don't

  • 03:42

    do it.

  • 03:43

Once you're behind security, you should never do that.

  • 03:46

Cause here's what happened after that.

  • 03:49

So we called the Swiss Air phone number, and they said we couldn't check-in until three

  • 03:52

hours before our flight, which was like eight hours from now.

  • 03:56

It sounded like we weren't going to be able to get a boarding pass and go back through

  • 03:59

security until 6 p.m., and we were stuck with no food and nowhere to go.

  • 04:05

    I had this idea.

  • 04:06

I thought, hey, I know there are a bunch of lounges in Terminal 1, let's see if we can

  • 04:11

go through security and go lounge-hopping in Terminal 1.

  • 04:14

So, we were already out of security, so we hopped on the train, we road to the next terminal,

  • 04:18

we get to the check-in line for security.

  • 04:20

They wouldn't let us in either.

  • 04:23

And we just tried to get into Terminal 1, and they basically wouldn't let us through,

  • 04:27

just because that's not the terminal we're flying out of.

  • 04:30

They won't let us in, and it's interesting because I've read so many things mentioning

  • 04:34

you could go lounge-hopping in multiple terminals here in JFK all day.

  • 04:38

But the guy insisted they haven't done that for at least a year.

  • 04:41

So, if you have the Priority Pass and your plan is to go lounge-hopping in JFK, just

  • 04:46

    be mindful of that.

  • 04:47

You might be stuck to whatever terminal you're flying out of.

  • 04:50

After that, we rode the train back from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 where our flight will be leaving

  • 04:55

from later, we went to the security check-in, and we explained our situation.

  • 04:58

Thankfully, there was a very kind man who took our passports, checked them in the system,

  • 05:05

and basically let us back through.

  • 05:06

We were so, so, so grateful.

  • 05:08

After that, though, we were still on the hunt to find some lounges.

  • 05:11

So we looked up what lounges were in this terminal, and we went to the first one, and

  • 05:15

    it was closed.

  • 05:17

    It's definitely not open.

  • 05:20

Yeah, we checked the Priority Pass app, which tells you all the lounges that are available

  • 05:25

in all the terminals, as well as what times and days they're open.

  • 05:29

But it was a bummer to see that that was closed, because basically there are only two lounges

  • 05:33

in this terminal that I knew of, and that was one of them, and some of the lounges have

  • 05:37

time limits, and we had about nine hours still until our flight.

  • 05:41

So thankfully, we came here which is the Wingtips lounge, we've got about nine hours until our

  • 05:47

flight, and they so kindly set they would let us check back in and stay all day.

  • 05:52

So, we're gonna get some food, we're gonna relax, and enjoy a day in the Wingtips lounge.

  • 06:17

Well after eight long, but much lovelier hours than we would have spent on the other side

  • 06:22

of security, we are finally headed to our gate where we're hopefully gonna get our boarding

  • 06:27

pass so we really can go to Switzerland.

  • 06:38

    It's official.

  • 06:39

We're getting on the plane and we're going to Switzerland.

  • 06:50

Okay, I know I'm only 5 foot 9, but I'm pretty impressed with this legroom.

  • 07:04

I mean, I can stretch out almost all the way.

  • 07:06

It's definitely more space than we had this morning on our flight from Nashville.

  • 07:09

    Shut up.

  • 07:10

The captain just came on and said we have great tailwinds, and so we're actually going

  • 07:16

to arrive over an hour sooner than expected.

  • 07:20

So we only have six and a half hours on this flight, all the way from New York to Zurich.

  • 07:25

    You know what that means?

  • 07:29

    Less sleep.

  • 07:31

This is our first time flying Swiss Airways, and one of the fun things about flying a different

  • 07:37

airline is you always get to see what's different about their in-flight service.

  • 07:40

    So, here's our dinner.

  • 07:42

I've got a beef stroganoff, what looks like a cheesecake of some kind, got a little salad,

  • 07:48

    and some bread.

  • 07:49

And a little wine to complete it.

  • 07:52

I'm not gonna lie, at least 50% of my motivation for booking on Swiss Air was for the Swiss

  • 07:58

    chocolate.

  • 08:00

So earlier on our flight, one of the flight attendants asked if we were on our honeymoon

  • 08:09

    because we looked so happy.

  • 08:11

So I just went back and talked to her and said, no, we're no our honeymoon, although

  • 08:15

we did honeymoon in Switzerland, we're just excited to be back here.

  • 08:20

And she just came up and brought us a bag of chocolate and two amenity kits from business

  • 08:35

class, just because she enjoyed talking to us.

  • 08:50

    Well, they weren't lying.

  • 08:52

That flight arrived a full hour earlier than scheduled.

  • 08:56

    We just cleared immigration.

  • 08:57

It was no problem, zero wait.

  • 09:00

And of course, it was so easy because of our EU passports.

  • 09:03

This was my first time entering the EU with my Italian passport, so that was a fun experience

  • 09:08

to go through the EU line, and to clear with so much ease and no questions.

  • 09:12

So we're about to catch our train, it should be arriving any minute.

  • 09:13

We just have one connection, and we should be in Interlaken in a couple hours.

  • 09:24

    Smell the fresh Swiss air.

  • 09:31

We have about 20 minutes till our next train comes, so we're gonna take off our masks,

  • 09:42

breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy these amazing views.

  • 10:08

    One step closer.

  • 10:09

I cannot believe that we have finally made it back here.

  • 10:20

So after more than 24 hours of travel from Nashville to New York to Zurich, we are finally

  • 10:50

    here in Interlaken.

  • 10:51

We have one whole month here.

  • 10:53

So be sure to subscribe, catch our next episode, so you can see all of the Swiss Alps.

  • 11:08

    We're here.

  • 11:20

I just can't believe that we're back here.

  • 11:22

I'm so excited that I forget how sleep-deprived I am right now.
