new to bullet journaling or want to experiment with your existing method, this is definitely

the video for you.

Bullet journaling is a method of planning using a plain notebook and although it started

very minimalist, itís rising popularity has taken it to new creative heights. But everyoneís

got their own preferences and I wanted to put together a resource with all the different

styles you can pick from for your own bullet journal. These ideas are based on my own past

six years of bullet journaling, some graphic design experience, and all the creative work

that inspired me online every day. By the way - I do love seeing all of your unique

For each spread, Iíll show you how I made it and what it looks like, explain some key

features, and give some suggestions for supplies you can use. All the materials Iíve used

in this video are linked down below too! I want to shoutout this notebook - it was gifted

to me by a lovely shop called London Gifties and itís withstood every single one of these

spreads beautifully. You can find a link to her store below too! Letís get started!

The first and most basic style is MINIMAL. This is the original bullet journal, with

a vertical calendar spread and just text. If you donít have a lot of time and are focused

on functionality, this is the style for you. Itís no-frills, with no outlines or decorations.

Your titles are underlined and your text is plain black. All you need for this spread

is a black pen, which can be an affordable Bic RoundStic Grip (which I love), or a smooth

Faber-Castell fineliner.

Next is the PROFESSIONAL. Neutral tones and free-form boxes without borders are the key

here. The company Karin sent me their brushmarker pro to try and Iím honestly obsessed with

them. I also used a clean, readable cursive contrasted with tall all-caps font, and peppered

the page with some sticky notes. Here youíll want a black pen, possibly a white pen if

your greys are dark, and some shades of grey markers.

The third spread is MODERN. This is all about contrast. Minimal, functional, plain - and

black and white. Thereís sharp edges, white on black contrast, and tall capitals. The

text isnít shaded but some depth can be added with outline shading. You can also play around

with tight or loose letter spacing. All you need here is a black and white pen - and youíll

have to play around with choosing ones that work well to show the white on top. Here,

I used the Faber-Castell india ink fineliners with the white Jelly Roll 08 Sakura pen.

Fourth is BOLD. This is for all you out there who love your pens to be 0.8 or higher. Thatís

the opposite of me because I love my thin pens and designs, but maybe this is right

up your alley. Thick fonts, circles and accents work well here, and pretty much everything

in capital letters. I only used a black pen and a white pen here too.

Now weíre heading into the vibrant spreads with this COLOURFUL one. Itís really important

- and hard - to pick a palette here, so play around with colours of different markers here.

I combined a Karin brushmarker red, with a Crayola Take Note highlighter purple and a

Zebra Mildliner blue here. The little doodles are extra - but why have colour if you donít

have anything to colour in? My favourite thing about the colourful spreads is that you can

accent things like your tracker or task boxes with the colours too!

STYLISH is what I used in my 2017 bullet journal the most. This generally looks best with just

one or two colour choices in pastel - here I used the Stationery Island brush pen. It

also uses space horizontally rather than just vertically -

with these really cute dailies. The colour you picked can be used to outline boxes that

you want to separate or highlight, and then a really cool title technique for this style

a black pen to write in cursive over top. All you need for this is a black pen and some

pastel colours.

Number 7 is ELEGANT. If youíre into fountain pens and calligraphy, this might be your style.

Itís pretty versatile, but it highlights your beautiful cursive. Thereís a ton of

resources out there to use, including false calligraphy - which I mostly use - where you

just write with a black pen and then add boldness to the downstroke, or real calligraphy with

brush pens. For this spread, you can use a plain black pen, a brush pen for headers,

and pale pastels or neutrals for colour accents.

Okay! Letís get artsy. Number 8 is DOODLER. This is getting to be a pretty popular bullet

journal style because you can create a theme for each month. Theyíre generally little

drawings that easy to follow and replicate, and can be used to fill up white space around

your regular spread. On the left my theme is plants and cactuses - mine are all fake

because I canít for the life of me take care of a plant. Actually, I think I over-take-care-of-them

because I overwater them usually. For this spread, I just used my favourite watercolour

palette which Iíve had since high school, and a travel paintbrush. On the right, the

theme is starry night and constellations. This is super easy to do - you just create

a big old blob of water first and then dabble some blue, purple and black. No colour mixing

necessary. I drew cute little constellations on top with a Faber-Castell marker because

the india ink is waterproof.

Number 9 is ARTIST. This is pretty much doodler, but less planner-focused and more drawing-focused.

Here, the drawings are the center of attention and the journal just happens around them.

Although I drew a rose and an old picture of me from my trip to Scotland in 2017, you

can make this into a travel sketchbook and draw quick rough sketches of buildings, food

you eat, people in the subway, and so on. The Instagram hashtag #urbansketch is my favourite

for inspiration! My style is pretty sketchy, and whenever Iím travel sketching I usually

carry a little pencil case with Faber Castell fineliners (again, the india ink is waterproof),

my watercolour palette - look for one with very moist or soft watercolour tins as itíll

feel nicer to paint with, and a travel brush with a water barrel. I usually donít pencil

sketch first but here I did. This is also one of my favourite quotes from my favourite

comic book - Calvin and Hobbes. It says ìas my artistís statement explains, my work is

uttery incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance.î

Number 10 is CRAFTY. This one is all about the washi tape, stamps and stickers. Itís

an easy way to add some jazz even after youíve finished your planning. This washi tape is

from the Washi Tape Shop as well as London Gifties - and I had a bit of a hard time matching

it up so Iíd recommend using only one tape per spread to make it look more consistent.

The green flowers are also a type of washi tape where you can cut out the design so itís

pretty much like a sticker. Itís also from London Gifties and I love them! For this page

the biggest tip is to create a colour scheme ahead of time - and I donít just mean ìpurpleî

or ìblueî because thereís a ton of shades that can be the same colour but still clash.

Finally, number 11 is SCRAPBOOK. This style of spread always looks gorgeous in my instagram

feed, and I wanted to try this out. Here I ripped up a letter-sized paper mailing envelope

and used some scraps I had in my scrap bin. The key here is to overlay items as much as

possible, and use thin lines and cursive journal writing to give it a lived-in feel. You can

create the scrapbooking parts first, or use it to fill in the empty spaces in your journal.

I also reused the wrapping that the London Gifties notebook came in as a little photo

in the picture frame. I love how it turned out! You can also use old magazines or photos

there as well.
