  • 00:00

The Nuns back in Cicero would send me to hell for saying it, but thank God he’s dead.

  • 00:09

You said you were watching us!

  • 00:11

    Where were you?

  • 00:12

    Huh?

  • 00:13

The poor thing had lost her way.

  • 00:15

Is she going to be okay?

  • 00:16

    She’ll be fine, Jimmy.

  • 00:18

    How do you know?

  • 00:20

    Just listen.

  • 00:27

With only the final 5 episodes left, Kim Wexler is the only main character in Better Call

  • 00:32

Saul whose future remains unknown, at least through the Breaking Bad finale.

  • 00:38

Gene Takovic is the other character, although there is a degree of uncertainty there regarding

  • 00:43

exactly when the Gene timeline takes place.

  • 00:47

But the other huge and related unknown is what happens with the relationship between

  • 00:52

    Wexler and McGill?

  • 00:54

After more than five and a half seasons, that relationship will now be strained to an unprecedented

  • 01:00

    magnitude.

  • 01:01

It had been tested before, many times over.

  • 01:04

The biggest test so far was when Goodman made Kim the sucker of his scam, which ironically

  • 01:10

he was doing because it accomplished what she initially wanted.

  • 01:14

With their relationship in the balance, just when it seemed Kim would break it off with

  • 01:18

him, she instead suggested marriage, and the Wexler-Goodman union would soon become official.

  • 01:24

But now they must face a number of inconvenient facts about themselves, both as individuals

  • 01:30

    and as a couple.

  • 01:32

Their actions directly led to Howard’s good name being ruined, but the real kicker is

  • 01:37

that their actions indirectly led to Howard’s death, and now their cartel connections have

  • 01:43

them directly interweaved in Gustavo Fring’s aspiring drug empire.

  • 01:48

It was all fun and games for Kim when she was looking for the thrill of pulling off

  • 01:53

a crazy scheme to take a shortcut.

  • 01:56

It worked, and she couldn’t have been happier.

  • 01:59

As is often the case after a successful con, Kim gets all hot and bothered, but this particular

  • 02:05

long con was a true work of criminal artistry.

  • 02:09

But now Howard Hamlin is dead, and Kim finds herself forced to assassinate some random

  • 02:15

guy to save her husband’s life.

  • 02:17

And despite clearly being rattled and under great duress, Kim resisted the temptation

  • 02:23

to tell the police, she resisted the temptation to just run away, and she attempted to carry

  • 02:29

out her mission, clearly showing an unwavering love and devotion towards Jimmy.

  • 02:35

Jimmy did the exact same thing immediately before this, when he insisted that Lalo send

  • 02:41

her instead, because he didn’t want his beloved Kim to be left alone with that lunatic.

  • 02:47

Jimmy wanted Kim to get away and save herself, and he was willing to face whatever music

  • 02:52

    that madman had in store.

  • 02:55

Kim and Jimmy were each willing to put EVERYTHING on the line for the other under the most stressful

  • 03:00

    and debilitating of circumstances.

  • 03:03

But now that they need to face the music for their own ill deeds, will that unwavering

  • 03:08

love and devotion grow stronger, or will it completely fall apart?

  • 03:14

I think there are some clues in their childhood flashbacks, with Kim and Jimmy each having

  • 03:19

    two apiece to date.

  • 03:21

The first flashback was when young Jimmy saw his old man get played like a sucker, and

  • 03:27

the culprit gave Jimmy a lesson about wolves and sheep.

  • 03:31

The next flashback is when young Chuck is reading a book to young Jimmy.

  • 03:36

Then we get our first Kim flashback when she refuses to enter the car with her drunken

  • 03:41

mother, and young Kim marches away with her cello.

  • 03:45

And finally, the scene where Kim shoplifted jewelry, and her proud mother conned the store

  • 03:51

manager, got her daughter out of trouble, and still stole the goods.

  • 03:56

With Jimmy and his old man, the practical lesson young Jimmy would put into practice

  • 04:01

here was that he wasn’t going to be a sucker like his old man!

  • 04:06

In that same episode, Jimmy represented Mike and lied on his behalf to get him out of the

  • 04:11

Salamanca jam with the Tuco altercation.

  • 04:14

Then when he wants to quit Davis and Main, but wants to keep his bonus, he starts acting

  • 04:20

like an unruly menace, and they fire him, where he gets to keep his bonus.

  • 04:26

And finally, Kim told him she’d be willing to partner with him if he could keep everything

  • 04:30

on the “straight and narrow”, and Jimmy tells her he needs to stay true to himself,

  • 04:36

    so she decides not to.

  • 04:38

Everything Jimmy did in this episode plays back on the ideal that he was never gonna

  • 04:43

become a sucker like his old man, and he would do whatever it takes to prevent that from

  • 04:49

    happening.

  • 04:50

Then Chuck reading the book to Jimmy, that little snippet represents everything that

  • 04:54

Chuck hated about Jimmy and taking shortcuts.

  • 04:58

Jimmy wasn’t even appreciating the story, he wanted a shortcut to know what would happen.

  • 05:03

And in Chuck’s mind, Jimmy was always someone who never appreciated the law, and got where

  • 05:09

he was by being underhanded and taking cheap shortcuts.

  • 05:13

When Jimmy tries making up with Chuck in that episode, his brother tells him he was never

  • 05:18

really important to him, and Chuck later takes his own life.

  • 05:22

But the point here is that even from a younger age, Jimmy idolized his big brother, and Chuck

  • 05:28

    resented his kid brother.

  • 05:31

And that was the reality of their entire relationship in the show, Jimmy always seeking big bro’s

  • 05:37

approval, and Chuck envious of Jimmy’s success taking shortcuts.

  • 05:42

Kim refusing to get into the car with her mother was a bold move from a young lady determined

  • 05:47

to find her own path and control her own destiny.

  • 05:51

Later in that episode, Kim finally wants to bow out of her plans with Acker, and she offers

  • 05:56

him a settlement willing to pay the difference out of her own pocket.

  • 06:00

She made a decision, and Kim and Kim alone wants to define her future path.

  • 06:06

But Goodman defied her, and he made her a sucker at the aforementioned meeting with

  • 06:11

    Mesa Verde.

  • 06:12

Kim lost control of how things unfolded, even if she DID get what she originally wanted.

  • 06:19

And then just as she threatened they needed to break-up, she suggested marriage.

  • 06:24

Was this Kim in control of her own future?

  • 06:27

Deep down, did Kim suggest that not only to regain the illusion of control, but was she

  • 06:33

really happy deep down that Goodman screwed Mesa Verde over?

  • 06:38

    Then the shoplifting ordeal.

  • 06:39

Kim’s Mom played that store owner like a mean cello, and in the end, Kim got what she

  • 06:46

    wanted.

  • 06:47

Not unlike what happened when she proposed to Jimmy, do or die, either we get married

  • 06:52

    or we’re done!

  • 06:54

    We are done!

  • 06:55

That episode features Kim and Jimmy learning about the encrypted black book of the criminal

  • 07:01

    underground.

  • 07:02

Later that episode while playing out their cruel scheme against Howard, Cliff offers

  • 07:04

Kim what she claims she always wanted, where all of her pro bono dreams of helping the

  • 07:09

helpless could come to fruition, without the need to scam Howard.

  • 07:14

But Kim insisted the scam go forward, and even when the entire ploy was threatened and

  • 07:20

Jimmy suggested calling it off, Kim still insisted, and she abandoned her dream come

  • 07:26

true scenario because she couldn’t resist the thrill of the scam.

  • 07:31

I think that is exactly what happened with her mother.

  • 07:34

It wasn’t really about getting what she wanted that made Kim so happy.

  • 07:38

It was about taking a shortcut to get there, and the thrill of ultimately getting away

  • 07:44

    with it.

  • 07:45

For Kim it’s more about the thrill, as evidenced by how excited she gets after pulling one

  • 07:51

off, where she at times literally throws herself all over Jimmy.

  • 07:55

For Jimmy, it’s more about a means to an end where he is more of an opportunist.

  • 08:00

If it were simply a means to an end for Kimmy Corleone, she would have abandoned her plans

  • 08:06

to ruin Howard, content that Cliff got her the type of funding she required to fulfill

  • 08:11

her self proclaimed pro bono dreams.

  • 08:14

But she was eager and willing to flush that all down the toilet for the thrill!

  • 08:20

    Look how happy she is!

  • 08:22

That’s as good as it gets for Kimmy Corleone.

  • 08:25

For Jimmy, the shortcuts really are about taking shortcuts, but for Kim, the scam is

  • 08:31

    all for the thrill.

  • 08:33

The same thrill she felt when she saw her Mom had gotten away with it.

  • 08:37

Jimmy always idolized Chuck, looking to obtain his approval, and after Chuck was gone, in

  • 08:43

many ways Jimmy turned that desire to please all in on Kim.

  • 08:47

McGill wants Wexler to have whatever she wants, and if he can feasibly do something for her,

  • 08:53

    he will!

  • 08:54

And his driving childhood ideal was not to become a sucker like his old man before him.

  • 09:00

This leads me to believe that at the end, Goodman is going to become an even bigger

  • 09:05

    sucker.

  • 09:06

Whether he gets played by Kim, or whether he gets played by Jeff the cab driver, that

  • 09:12

    remains to be seen.

  • 09:13

But Jimmy becoming a sucker, that which he rejected in his father, would prove to be

  • 09:18

    the ultimate fall of McGill.

  • 09:21

And with his desire to please Kim and receive her approval, he might just be setting up

  • 09:26

the perfect storm scenario that allows him to fall victim to a con.

  • 09:31

Kim always wanted to be in control of her own destiny, wanting to do things her own

  • 09:35

way, solving her own problems her own way, and choosing her own path however her heart

  • 09:41

    desires in a given moment.

  • 09:43

But Kim is likewise driven by the irresistible rush that comes with completing a con.

  • 09:49

Even with their intimate interactions, Kim is almost always the one initiating it, sometimes

  • 09:55

literally throwing herself at Jimmy after they pull one off.

  • 10:00

Kim likes being in control, and pulling one off brings her great joy.

  • 10:05

So if being made into a sucker is the worst thing that could happen to Jimmy McGill, then

  • 10:10

the worst thing that can happen to Kim Wexler is losing the ability to control her own destiny.

  • 10:17

    Prison?

  • 10:18

    Disbarment?

  • 10:19

Forced to flee and assume a new identity from Ed?

  • 10:22

Or maybe even something as simple as not being able to live with the guilt of her own ill

  • 10:28

    deeds?

  • 10:29

If Kim does wind up being the one who plays Jimmy as a sucker, then Gene has a potential

  • 10:34

moment of redemption with Jeff the cab driver.

  • 10:38

If Kim doesn’t play Jimmy for a sucker, then I believe that almost certainly means

  • 10:43

    that Jeff will play him.

  • 10:45

The biggest questions now, are how will Jimmy and Kim handle their guilt and the trauma

  • 10:51

suffered from the Howard-Lalo ordeal, and will Kim’s lie of omission ever come into

  • 10:57

    play?

  • 10:58

Kim never told Jimmy how she knew she was being followed, she secretly met with Mike

  • 11:03

because Mike believes she is made of sterner stuff, and that she was informed Lalo was

  • 11:08

    alive and well.

  • 11:10

She deliberately withheld that from him, perhaps with the rationalization that she was protecting

  • 11:16

him from worrying, but the reality is that she didn’t want him to abandon the Howard

  • 11:21

    scheme.

  • 11:22

Kim knew that Jimmy was reluctant to scam Howard from the beginning, but she also knew

  • 11:27

that she could take advantage of his desire to please her and obtain her approval.

  • 11:33

Kim ALREADY has a huge advantage over Jimmy, because she can play him like a mean cello.

  • 11:40

So if Kim is going to play Jimmy, the foundation to do so is alreadythere.

  • 11:45

We know the black book comes into their possession at some point.

  • 11:49

We know that the Saul Goodman character we see in Breaking Bad was developed with strong

  • 11:54

    influence from Kim.

  • 11:55

We know that Saul ultimately uses the vacuum service, and we know he referred at least

  • 12:00

    two others there.

  • 12:02

And we know there is an important phone call coming up on November 12th at 3pm that involves

  • 12:08

Francesca, and while no one can say for sure, it seems likely that Kim is a prime candidate

  • 12:15

to be on the other side of that phone.

  • 12:17

If the phone call does involve Kim, that suggests she at least survives until the point Goodman

  • 12:22

    gets disappeared by Ed.

  • 12:25

And it likewise suggests that Kim and Jimmy are on terms that are at least amicable if

  • 12:30

they are still in communication with each other.

  • 12:33

Although, strange that the call would need to be made in such secrecy that it somehow

  • 12:37

    requires Francesca’s assistance.

  • 12:39

    Is Kim in prison?

  • 12:41

Did Kim use the service before Goodman?

  • 12:44

If she did, why didn’t he go with her?

  • 12:47

Is Kim really in charge of Ice Station Zebra, and could Kim have been the one telling Saul

  • 12:54

to encourage Walt to keep on cooking?

  • 12:57

Or are they just old pals who talk once every year on Jimmy’s birthday, before going their

  • 13:02

    separate ways?

  • 13:04

With Salamanca dead, and 5 episodes remaining, I’m fully expecting at least one more childhood

  • 13:10

flashback for Kim and maybe another for Jimmy too.

  • 13:13

I have no idea how this will play out, but I do believe there are clues in those childhood

  • 13:19

flashback scenes, and I believe we will get another piece of the puzzle before the Jimmy-Kim

  • 13:24

    relationship reaches its ultimate resolution.

  • 13:28

There is some uncertainty about the exact timeline for the Gene scenes, and how it directly

  • 13:33

corresponds with Walt’s time in New Hampshire, and/or the events from El Camino, or beyond.

  • 13:41

But I think there is a damn good chance that resolution happens at the very end, in the

  • 13:46

    Gene timeline for sure.

  • 13:48

Whether or not Kim comes clean with Jimmy about Mike is perhaps the most important upcoming

  • 13:54

    factor here.

  • 13:55

Jimmy and Kim are both at a crossroad here.

  • 13:58

We know the direction Jimmy goes, because we see Goodman in Breaking Bad.

  • 14:03

But this is the single biggest defining factor for Kim!

  • 14:06

Is she going to want to cleanse herself from her ill deeds, ignoring Mike’s advice and

  • 14:12

    confessing to everything?

  • 14:13

Or is she going to break bad and venture closer to the dark depths of the criminal underworld?

  • 14:20

Was Kim appalled by the new world she was thrown into, where Howard gets murdered, she

  • 14:25

becomes an unwilling wouldbe assassin, and then is taken hostage by a crew of mysterious

  • 14:32

    criminals?

  • 14:33

Or did Kim find that world exciting and appealing.

  • 14:37

    Perhaps even thrilling?

  • 14:38

The answer, I think, is whether Kim comes clean about what Mike told her.

  • 14:43

If Kim tells him, then I believe she will seek to cleanse herself and distance herself

  • 14:48

    from Goodman.

  • 14:49

But if she never tells him, and he finds out elsewhere or never at all, then I’m liking

  • 14:55

the chance of Kim Wexler truly becoming Kimmy Corleone.

  • 15:00

Will Kim tell Saul she met with Mike?

  • 15:02

    Will she come clean?

  • 15:04

Or will she keep that to herself, and get even dirtier?

  • 15:07

Either way, I am 100% convinced that the Golden Toilet plays a huge role in the ultimate fate

  • 15:14

of Saul Goodman and Kim Wexler.

  • 15:17

Either way, I’m fired-up and I do believe thus far the season has been tight!

  • 15:22

    Tight, tight, ight!

  • 15:24

    Yeah!

  • 15:25

Do you think Kim will tell Jimmy?

  • 15:28

Please share your thoughts in the comment section.

  • 15:31

Thank you very much for watching everyone, i hope you enjoyed, and have a wonderful night.

  • 15:35

    Will Kim Wexler come clean?

  • 15:37

    Or get dirtier?

  • 15:38

Pollos Hermanos, Pollos Hermanos, delicious chicken grilled or fried.

  • 15:43

    Pollos Hermanos, Pollos Hermanos.

  • 15:47

    He’s conning you.

  • 15:50

    Jimmy, what if you’re wrong.

  • 15:53

    It was one beer.

  • 15:54

    Doesn’t smell like one beer.

  • 15:56

    Well, that’s what it was.

  • 15:58

    So let’s go.

  • 16:00

    Wolves and sheep.

  • 16:01

Figure out which one you’re gonna be.

  • 16:04

    Really?

  • 16:05

You’re gonna walk 3 miles with a cello?

  • 16:08

    Don’t be stupid.

  • 16:09

    Get in!

  • 16:10

    Maybe that’s for the best.

  • 16:11

    Nip it in the bud!

  • 16:13

I mean protecting her from the consequences.

  • 16:16

The poor thing had lost her way.

  • 16:18

Is she going to be okay?

  • 16:20

    She’ll be fine, Jimmy.

  • 16:21

    How do you know?

  • 16:24

    Just listen.

  • 16:25

    Nip it in the bud!

  • 16:34

And go our separate ways or we’re…

  • 16:37

    Or what?

  • 16:39

    Maybe we get married.

  • 16:41

    You may kiss.

  • 16:45

    Shit!

  • 16:46

    Oh shit!

  • 16:49

    Oh my God!

  • 16:52

You know she’s the best choice.

  • 16:54

    No I’m not!

  • 16:55

    I-I can’t.

  • 16:56

    I can’t do it.

  • 16:57

    She can do it.

  • 16:58

You know she can do it!

  • 16:59

    You know I’m right!

  • 17:00

I need to impress on you, none of this ever happened.

  • 17:05

Why are you telling me this and not him?

  • 17:10

Because I think you’re made of sterner stuff.

  • 17:13

I didn’t know you had it in you.

  • 17:15

    I got you something.

  • 17:18

    See?

  • 17:19

    Your Mom’s good for something.

  • 17:21

    Say it out loud.

  • 17:24

    I need to hear it.

  • 17:27

    I understand.

  • 17:29

    It never happened.

  • 17:31

Pollos Hermanos, Pollos Hermanos, delicious chicken grilled or fried.

  • 17:35

    Pollos Hermanos, Pollos Hermanos.

  • 17:38

You know Quasimodo predicted all of this.

  • 17:42

    What is this?

  • 17:44

That my friend is Albuquerque's public enemy #1.

  • 17:48

    We’re done when I say we’re done.

  • 17:53

The Nuns back in Cicero would send me to hell for saying it, but thank God he’s dead.

  • 18:02

The poor thing had lost her way.

  • 18:04

Is she going to be okay?

  • 18:05

    She’ll be fine, Jimmy.

  • 18:07

    How do you know?

  • 18:09

    Just listen.

  • 18:11

You said you were watching us!

  • 18:13

    Where were you?

  • 18:14

    Huh?

  • 18:15

    You’re done!

  • 18:16

    You are done!
