  • 00:00

    - Hey everybody, we are finishing up our latest ZipFarm build, and we figured it'd be a good

  • 00:05

time to shoot a video and kind of show you some of the considerations for a space, so

  • 00:09

like if you're planning out your own ZipFarm.

  • 00:13

Just kind of wanted to show you a few examples of what we look for and what some of the information

  • 00:17

that we require from you to be able to lay out a nice space and a nice farm ultimately

  • 00:24

    in your space.

  • 00:36

So the first thing that is really important is the ceiling heights of your space.

  • 00:53

The minimum for a seven-foot tower ZipFarm system is about 10 feet, and that's kind of

  • 00:59

anything hanging, that we need to know the lowest hanging item, so if there's any heaters

  • 01:04

in the room, or anything else hanging from the ceiling we need to know the height to

  • 01:09

that to make sure that the light racks here will fit under it.

  • 01:15

Next we'll need to know the actual dimensions of the room that you plan on growing in.

  • 01:23

So we need to make sure that the light racks, the ZipRacks everything will fit, and you're

  • 01:26

able to take them out, move them around, get them planted, just so we can develop a nice

  • 01:32

kind of work flow for you to maximize your labor efficiency.

  • 01:37

So if you'll take a look here, we need, the actual light racks themselves are about 18-feet

  • 01:45

long, but the rows of three ZipRacks here will stick out a little bit longer, so usually

  • 01:53

I plan for about 21-feet in length from whatever wall we're kind of going off of.

  • 01:59

And then you'll want you know, this space on the end here, is really ideal to be able

  • 02:05

to move racks out, I can move them around, I can stage them here, I can work on them

  • 02:11

    maintenance-wise.

  • 02:12

So you want a little bit of extra space, so, to really have an ideal setting would be about

  • 02:16

30-feet of width, if we're gonna orient the light racks and ZipRacks in this fashion.

  • 02:23

And then when we start adding on ZipRacks and we're spacing them apart, each individual

  • 02:29

light rack is about five feet, four inches wide.

  • 02:33

And then we'll space the ZipRacks the same width, so in general, you're looking at roughly

  • 02:41

five feet after each kind of set of ZipRacks to be accommodated in here.

  • 02:50

And that's based on, you know, our CoolBar lighting, and the spacing we want them from

  • 02:55

the towers to get ultimate growth.

  • 02:58

So yeah, those are kind of the main things, and along with that you know, we'll take a

  • 03:08

look over here, and I'll kind of show you an example.

  • 03:12

It's important to know where your exits are.

  • 03:15

So entrances, exits, fire escapes, anything like that, obviously you want have nice quick

  • 03:21

easy access to, so you'll see in this layout here we've got clear space to the exit here.

  • 03:32

In addition to entrances, exits, restrooms, anything like that that you don't want to

  • 03:36

block off, you also want to have access to your electrical panel, and any other kind

  • 03:42

of items like that that need to be, you know you need to be able to access.

  • 03:45

So in this particular layout we've put the light rack away from the wall a couple feet,

  • 03:52

so it's plenty of room for a person to get back here and access the electrical panel.

  • 04:01

And then you know it's just really important to know if it's a, if there's any other kind

  • 04:05

of features that are gonna throw things off on the walls.

  • 04:10

So if there's a little piece that's kind of dry-walled in that's your ducting, or something

  • 04:15

like that, oftentimes it will come out from the main wall, 18-inches or so, which doesn't

  • 04:20

seem like a lot, but we have, I'll show you over here.

  • 04:25

The way that the drainage lines work for this system, are, it's a hard line that runs perpendicular

  • 04:39

    to the ZipRacks.

  • 04:40

And so this needs to be in a straight line.

  • 04:43

And so if there's any of those features that come off of the wall, we need to plan the

  • 04:47

actual offset based on that so that it can be a straight line, which is ultimately gonna

  • 04:53

effect the width of the room.

  • 04:57

So just a couple of tips and notes to take into account, when you're potentially evaluating

  • 05:04

a space to use for a ZipFarm.

  • 05:06

Keep a few of those things in mind, and as always we're here to help you out through

  • 05:13

that process, and we're happy to put together layouts for you, and be able to plan the space

  • 05:19

    in advance.

  • 05:20

So let us know if you have questions, and we're always happy to help.
