  • 00:00

What's up guys. This is the iceberg for Beavis and Butt-head. It starts at the top with more

  • 00:05

commonplace information and as we procceed further down the chart, we'll go over more

  • 00:09

obscure information and lesser known hypothetical theories. So let's get into it.

  • 00:15

Starting with the base level, the creator, Mike Judge. He started as a physics student,

  • 00:20

then an engineer, then moved on to starting a band in Texas, and eventually becoming the

  • 00:25

creator of several beloved shows. He also voices Beavis and Butt-head himself along

  • 00:31

with several other characters from the show. Mike judge was also known for having co created

  • 00:38

a number of other shows, most notably: King of the Hill, Silicon Valley, Office space,

  • 00:43

Idiocracy among others. It's also interesting to note that he taught himself how to animate

  • 00:48

early on. Judge has admitted that Beavis was the first

  • 00:54

to be created and is his favorite of the two. Butt-head was inspired by someone he went

  • 00:59

to high school with who would wear a kick me sign on his back, inviting anybody else

  • 01:03

to kick his butt. He also took on the moniker Iron Butt in the process.

  • 01:10

This was the short film that featured the very first appearance of beavis and butthead.

  • 01:15

It premiered in The Sick and Twisted Festival of animation. It was actually the fourth short

  • 01:20

film with these characters Judge had made. Though this wasn't the very FIRST creation

  • 01:24

using beavis and butt-head, it did get MTV's attention and was the catalyst for its explosive

  • 01:30

growth. It's obvious that these characters have little

  • 01:34

to no parental supervision. We see their fathers in Beavis and Butt-head do america, stating

  • 01:38

that their moms were both 'sluts'. This has led many theories to conclude that the mothers

  • 01:41

are actually prostitutes that don't want their kids to know. And when Judge was asked this

  • 01:46

question, he replied "They're in the same place charlie brown's parents are"

  • 01:51

Not surprisingly, several video games were based on this IP. There were at least 4 of

  • 01:56

them created with a number of unofficial games created by fans.

  • 02:02

Mike Judge has stated that within the 199 initial episodes created, he would occasionally

  • 02:08

get writers block. When this would happen, he would use howard stern as his inspiration.

  • 02:14

The radio host's spontaenous nature would give Judge the fuel necessary to improvise

  • 02:18

much of the golden content that he was able to produce.

  • 02:25

The character of Boomhaeur from King of the Hill was actually actually an impression of

  • 02:28

somebody that had called into complain about Beavis and Butt-head.

  • 02:50

This is in reference to the alarming number of people claiming their children committed

  • 02:54

irresponsible acts directly in response to the show's involvement. This encouraged MTV

  • 02:59

to move back the airing time from evening to late evening.

  • 03:08

Much of the style and comedy of Beavis and Butt-head was inspired from the Nutty Professor

  • 03:12

mixed Cheech and chong. Judge has stated that these were two of the most influential in

  • 03:17

his preferred style of comedy. In one of the south Park movies, Bigger Longer

  • 03:25

and Uncut, Kenny removed his hood and spoke to the rest of the cast. He was voiced by

  • 03:29

Beavis and Butt-head creator, Mike Judge. Beavis and Butt-head appeared as guests on

  • 03:38

a number of the late shows of David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live as their animated selves.

  • 03:43

They also appeared on episodes of Robot Chicken and Space Ghost Coast to Coast on Adult Swim

  • 03:49

as well as Celebrity Deathmatch on MTV. They also had a very brief cameo in Austin Powers,

  • 03:54

the international man of mystery. The movie Air Heads Had a call in during a

  • 04:01

radio show that featured Mike Judge voicing out the iconic duo.

  • 04:11

During the 1997 MTV movie awards, the movie beavis and butthead do america was nominated

  • 04:17

for the best on screeen duo award. The pair's simple phrase of 'heh heh' was

  • 04:26

voted in the top 100 greatest TV show catch phrases in 2006.

  • 04:30

On TV guide's top 60 greatest cartoons of all time, Beavis and Butthead was voted as

  • 04:38

#15. A theory for how the two characters stay alive

  • 04:45

through countless accidents and mishaps is that their lightweight, stringy, and constantly

  • 04:51

fidgety bodies give them the ability to survive what others wouldn't. Having such little mass,

  • 04:56

they wouldn't feel the impact of the blows that they receive, light punching a feather

  • 05:00

in mid air. With their natural ability to be relaxed, not understanding the danger they're

  • 05:07

in, they won't tense up in preparation for a damaging blow. And staying loose and relaxed

  • 05:11

is one of the best ways to help absorb the impact of a fall.

  • 05:17

This is the segment on MTV that occupied the first appearances of Beavis and Butt-head.

  • 05:23

It's well loved reception encouraged them to create the very first episode of Beavis

  • 05:27

and Butt head in March of 1993. Mike Judge wrote and recorded the opening

  • 05:35

theme song himself. He apparently meant to have someone else record it, but it just never

  • 05:42

happened. Judge has stated himself that he doesn't mind

  • 05:45

the vulgarity of the show as long as its witty and humorous. But there are several lines

  • 05:50

throughout the series that were vulgar just for the sake of being vulgar and there are

  • 05:54

several lines that he truly regrets implmenting into the show.

  • 06:01

Beavis and Butt-head were featured on an issue of Rolling Stone magazine and it ended up

  • 06:06

becoming the highest selling issue of the year.

  • 06:08

In 1993, a US senator was speaking on violence inspired by TV. He called the pair Buffcoat

  • 06:18

and Beaver as a genuine mistake. This comedian made an appearance on the show

  • 06:25

as a salesman known as Gus Baker. In one of the movie's deleted scenes, Beavis

  • 06:32

actually used the Declaration of independence as toilet paper. We can only imagine why this

  • 06:37

didn't appear in the movie itself. There were several cases of schools throughout

  • 06:44

southern dakota that outlawed clothes featuring the iconic duo.

  • 06:51

The dorky character in the show, stewart would wear a winger shirt based on the band. The

  • 06:56

leader of the band actually stated that the show single-handedly killed the band's career.

  • 07:01

However he and Mike Judge have since settled any differences they once had and are now

  • 07:05

on good terms with one another. Unlike the negative impact of the show on

  • 07:11

Winger, another performer on the show, a rapper named T-baby, actually received a notable

  • 07:18

growth. Beavis and Butt-head had their own marvel

  • 07:23

comic series. Though I think it's unlikely we'll see them appear under that brand these

  • 07:28

days. Due to an incident with a fire year old setting

  • 07:33

fire to their house, the show was banned from mentioning or including any scenes with fire

  • 07:38

or reference to it. The series originally ended in 1997 because

  • 07:49

Mike Judge was struggling to come up with new content. But was revived for a short time

  • 07:55

in 2011. The renewed series had its previously enforced fire ban lifted. However the series

  • 08:00

seemed outdated in the modern era and it was cancelled again after the season ended.

  • 08:08

When Beavis abuses substances he will go into this state where he's absorbed entirely by

  • 08:13

another entity or character known as cornholio. This theory states that this is actually a

  • 08:19

possession that overtakes him completely. The theory continues to state that Cornholio's

  • 08:23

fascination with his 'bunghole' derives from the entity's lack of familiarity with having

  • 08:29

one. So when the entity known as cornholio discovers that this being it's possessing

  • 08:32

has a bodily function it's familiar with, it becomes fascinated by it. This is also

  • 08:37

backed up by Beavis admitting that He hears voices in his head throughout the series.

  • 08:46

Butt-Head is apparently unaware of his gums showing throughout the show. He even denied

  • 08:52

it when beavis called him out on it one day and then convinced Beavis it was not true.

  • 08:58

In early episodes of Beavis and Butthead, Beavis can be seen wearing a slayer shirt

  • 09:03

instead of his usual Metallica shirt. The official beavis and butt-head merchandising

  • 09:09

did not include the band logos and instead only featured blank shirts. This was done

  • 09:14

for licensing and copyright issues. This entertainer wanted to be featured on

  • 09:22

the show but one of the songwriters for the song he was wanting to included refused to

  • 09:27

allow the song to be aired. At one point, Mike Judge said he had considered

  • 09:40

a live action version of the show. He also mentioned that Johnny Depp had volunteered

  • 09:44

to play Beavis. During one of his movies with Marlin Brando, the two would imitate Beavis

  • 09:49

and Butt-head together. One year, the iconic pair were featured in

  • 09:55

a mostly live action thanksgiving special featuring Kurt Loder

  • 09:59

In July of 2020, it was announced that Beavis and Butthead have received a 2 year order

  • 10:06

for the show to be renewed. This time around, the characters will be introduced into the

  • 10:10

modern world of social media and the introduction of Gen z.

  • 10:17

The show had major difficulties in syndication through other networks as many of the episodes

  • 10:21

featured music videos that were exclusive to the MTV network.

  • 10:27

This is what South Park Creator, Trey Park and Matt Stone, felt like Beavis and Butthead

  • 10:32

was as a genre. While the mainstream was all about folk and other popular show tunes, the

  • 10:38

blues was invented to appeal to a different audience.

  • 10:42

Though we're not given any confirmation of this, we all understand that the two main

  • 10:48

characters are off mentally. One of the primary theories for this is that the two were born

  • 10:53

with this condition that is caused from exposure to alcohol during the mother's pregnancy.

  • 10:58

According to wikipedia, people with this condition often have a thin upper lip, small eye openings,

  • 11:04

and a range of learning difficulties. These two definitely seem possess these traits.

  • 11:09

So this would explain their slow mental capabilities as well as their skull deformation, which

  • 11:14

is notably different than other characters in the show.

  • 11:19

It's never revealed the character's true relationship but we are given insight that they've been

  • 11:23

together since the earliest stages of their lives. And according to Butt-Head's father...

  • 11:32

he was the only one to 'score' with the two women but obviously Beavis and his father

  • 11:37

share similarities. One prevailing theory is that the two are actually cousins from

  • 11:41

two permiscuous sisters that support their children from afar.

  • 11:47

Mike Judge created multiple pilot episodes of the show. The second was called Peace,

  • 11:52

Love, and Understanding. In the episode, the two are at a monster truck show and one of

  • 11:58

the trucks accidentally lets loose the God of odor and excrement, Sterquilius, who aniihilates

  • 12:03

the entire stadium. The theory states that this was actually the final episode chronologically.

  • 12:10

Judge has gone on the record to say that he actually despises this episode. And this seems

  • 12:15

like an appropriate way for Beavis and Butt-head to go so perhaps this is the case.

  • 12:20

Tom Anderson from Beavis and Butt-head has very obvious similarities with Hank Hill.

  • 12:28

Even their expressions, mannerisms and relentless enthusiasm for propane and propane accessories

  • 12:34

match. But they're not QUITE the same. A predominant theory is that Tom Anderson is actually Hank

  • 12:40

Hill's father. This coincides with another theory that Cotton from King of the Hill is

  • 12:45

not actually Hank's father. This outlandish theory states that after WW2,

  • 12:53

governments coordinated to create a new type of human that was being introduced into the

  • 12:57

public. However, along with these experiments came a limiting of human functions, bringing

  • 13:03

them down to the basic primal instincts for food, water, and sex. I don't think that this

  • 13:08

one holds much water but it's fun to consider nonetheless

  • 13:12

Daria is a character within Beavis and Butt-head realm. But a common theory states that Daria

  • 13:20

created this work of fiction that's known as Beavis and Butt-head. The theory goes on

  • 13:22

to say that Daria met Hank Hill at an early age who would later serve as inspirationo

  • 13:28

for Tom Anderson. Beavis and Butt-head were based on two best friends in high school that

  • 13:32

she had met. This would explain why Daria's character in the show had a heavy interest

  • 13:38

in the boys, much moreso than other chracters. She's also shown as more patient and sympathetic

  • 13:44

in Beavis and Butt-head than she's shown on her own show. She could just be portraying

  • 13:47

herself in a more positive light. This one actually seems possible to me.

  • 13:52

This theory states that Butt-Head is actually from a wealthy family and is simply hanging

  • 13:57

out with Beavis for entertainment. Butt-head is almost always the dominant one in the friendship

  • 14:02

and it would make sense that he's using Beavis since he's so easily manipulated. And they

  • 14:07

never seem to have any trouble affording burger world whenever they wanted. The theory goes

  • 14:12

on to say that Butt-Head has a family job waiting for him whenever he's ready to move
