  • 00:00

hi guys this is Moni from PTE magic welcome back  to my channel previously i've been making many

  • 00:05

videos on PTE speaking but in today's video  we're going to focus more on PTE listening

  • 00:10

specifically i'm going to highlight the  top 5 most common mistakes that people

  • 00:15

make in pte listening we get started if  you're not my subscriber yet then click

  • 00:32

the subscribe button below so that you can  see more videos about beauty tips and tricks

  • 00:39

so let's start with the first one so the first  one is poor pronunciation in repeat sentence

  • 00:45

retell lecture and answer short questions why  am i mentioning speaking here you know pte

  • 00:50

is very different from other english proficiency  tests for example when you do ielts you will

  • 00:55

be getting points for listening reading writing  speaking separately right but when it comes to PTE

  • 01:02

all the modules are linked to each other when you  do pte listening you'll be getting the majority

  • 01:06

points from speaking if you guys check out one of  my old videos where i tried to do only speaking

  • 01:12

bte and got 90 in speaking and just by getting 90  in speaking i also scored 46 in listening without

  • 01:21

doing anything in listening so it means that the  content or keywords that you deliver in repeat

  • 01:26

sentence retell lecture and answer short questions  will have a dramatic impact on your final scores

  • 01:31

in listening just because you've got a pretty high  score in speaking doesn't mean that you should not

  • 01:36

worry about how you did those listening related  tasks you mispronounce the word computer might not

  • 01:40

be able to catch your keywords so you'll not get  enough points for listening whenever you do those

  • 01:45

listening related tasks in speaking you should  make sure that you're not only just focusing

  • 01:49

on fluency or speaking fast but also everything  you say is nice and clear and easy to understand

  • 01:59

number two is poor spelling in pte listening there  are three tasks that are related to writing which

  • 02:06

are summarized spoken text filling the blanks and  writing dictations when you guys do retell lecture

  • 02:11

you don't need to show the system how you spelled  a certain word yeah when it comes to summarize spoken

  • 02:15

context you have to actually type the word on  the computer so it means that spelling will be

  • 02:21

extremely crucial in this case you  might heard the word correctly but then

  • 02:25

you failed to write that word with correct  spelling so in this case you will not score

  • 02:30

high in this task so don't rush and try to  proofread your answers every single time

  • 02:38

number three is time management listening in pte  and listening in other english proficiency tests

  • 02:45

are quite different because not all the tasks  will be equally scored in other words some tasks

  • 02:51

will be more important and will weigh more than  the other ones pte listening write from dictations

  • 02:57

is probably the most important task and ironically  it's also the last part in the entire listening

  • 03:04

exam and since i've been teaching pte for like  four years now i have written so many students

  • 03:11

coming back to me and saying uh i missed dictation  i spent way too much time on other tasks so i

  • 03:17

missed one or two dictation questions i really  don't want that to happen to you and you know

  • 03:22

what i'm saying here is not that you should just  give the entire listening to get to dictation or

  • 03:27

you should just randomly choose answers just to  not miss write from dictation but my advice to you is

  • 03:34

that you should calculate your time and you should  allocate timing to each task carefully so that you

  • 03:40

have enough time to complete representations to  manage your time more effectively i recommend you

  • 03:45

to do mock test, mock test is the best way for you  to practice time management by the way keep in

  • 03:50

mind that the timing in Pearson official  mock test is different from the real test

  • 03:55

so they give you more time which is why i  try to find mock tests that give you the

  • 03:59

right timing so normally for each question  you should only have less than two minutes

  • 04:07

number four is not following the word count  limitation in summarized spoken text in summarize

  • 04:13

spoken text you are asked to write a summary of 50  to 70 words after listening to the lecture audio

  • 04:20

however there are a lot of students out there who  have weak listening skills might write less than

  • 04:25

50 or maybe a bit more than 30 and there are  also other students like my students who have

  • 04:31

already mastered their note-taking skills so  they tend to write maybe even more than 80

  • 04:37

or sometimes even more than 100 but how would  that affect your scores in listening let's have

  • 04:43

a look at the official score guide from business  so when you guys open pte official score guide

  • 04:48

and go to summarize spoken text under the  form you can see that you get two points if

  • 04:54

your answer contains 50 to 70 words you get one  point if it contains 40 to 49 of 71 to 100 words

  • 05:03

and you get zero points if it contains less than  40 words or more than 100 words this is exactly

  • 05:09

why just because you wrote something doesn't mean  that you're going to get point for it writing two

  • 05:14

less or too much might actually result in zero  point for your phone and eventually zero point

  • 05:19

for the entire task because there will be no  further scoring so please guys be attentive

  • 05:24

and check your word count carefully  within the given 10 minutes

  • 05:31

the last one is not practicing with the  real question bank i know that bte is

  • 05:36

just an english test and many of you are  already confident with your english skills

  • 05:40

and there are many students who tend to practice  with whichever audios available online and even

  • 05:47

just by watching english movies and listening  to podcasts and this really great way to master

  • 05:52

your english comprehension skills however is  it the most effective way to prepare for your

  • 05:56

bte listening if you guys already attempted  the test before you know that repeat centers

  • 06:01

and referential questions might be a bit too long  and contain many difficult and academic words for

  • 06:07

example this one once more under the pressure  of economic necessity practice outstripped theory

  • 06:15

come on seriously these kind of questions  are very hard to memorize and you know

  • 06:20

comprehension alone might not even help  to produce those sentences which is why

  • 06:24

I highly recommend you to practice with  the real questions collected from the real

  • 06:28

exam especially for those who have upcoming  tests don't waste your time and study smart

  • 06:36

okay so those were the five most common  mistakes that i find when people do btn

  • 06:41

listening you guys want to practice with  the 50 question banks and score mock tests

  • 06:45

you can also use our platform which is on pte  magic practice.com in one of my next videos i'll

  • 06:51

be sharing with you guys how one of our students  was able to get 88 in his pte magic mock test

  • 06:58

and eventually scored 88 in his real test she's  very interesting but yeah thank you so much

  • 07:03

for watching guys and if you have any questions  comment below and if you're not my subscriber then
