  • 00:00

Today I will be climbing at Stoney Point for the first time and I am super excited.

  • 00:05

    Let's go!

  • 00:06

Stoney Point is located in west LA.

  • 00:08

It takes me a long time to drive there, but fortunately there are a lot of podcasts, like

  • 00:12

"The power company podcast" and "Basecamp" to keep the stoke high.

  • 00:17

That looks like Stoney Point to me, guys, and there are parking on the streets.

  • 00:22

After all these years, I am finally here, Stoney Point Park, and I will be climbing with a

  • 00:28

very special friend today, rockentry, yeaaaaaaa. We're back. Yes!

  • 00:33

    Let's do it.

  • 00:36

We warmed up at a boulder called Slant Rock near the entrance.

  • 00:39

I was a bit rusty on topping out since I hadn't had the chance to climb outdoors for a while.

  • 00:45

OK, not very graceful, haha, but it works.

  • 00:49

There are two more routes on the right side, which are very easy.

  • 01:02

There's a slab on the other side of Slant Rock.

  • 01:04

It's also very easy but requires precise footwork since the footholds here are generally

  • 01:09

a lot smaller than the footholds in the gym.

  • 01:18

After warming up, we moved to "Boulder 1."

  • 01:21

The route I tried is called Vivarin.

  • 01:23

The holds are all big and nice but the height and the unfamiliarity makes it slightly mentally

  • 01:28

    challenging.

  • 01:51

    Woo!

  • 01:53

    Yes!

  • 01:54

Since I tend to climb conservatively on new highball climbs, and I want to finish as many

  • 01:59

    routes as I can.

  • 02:00

I decided to move to a climb called Pump Traverse nearby.

  • 02:03

Initially I couldn't figure out the start, but I got help from a nice old gentlemen and

  • 02:08

was able to do it afterwards.

  • 02:10

Later on I heard that this old gentlemen could potentially be one of the OGs who developed

  • 02:14

Stoney Point in mid 90s, and I was like, that's pretty cool.

  • 02:31

By the way, you can use the First Ascent App to conveniently locate all the climbs. Be

  • 02:37

sure to check out the video description for more details.

  • 02:42

I tried another climb on the back side of the same rock and wasn't able to do it after

  • 02:46

a few tries, and finally rockentry decided to give me some beta.

  • 02:51

To get closer to the top, maybe bring your left foot up higher here, here, so you have

  • 02:56

this really good spot, so pretty much if you bring your foot higher, you get closer to

  • 03:04

    the top.

  • 03:05

There you go. And put pressure. We want to put pressure on that left foot.

  • 03:13

So yeah, I made the classic mistake of missing footholds because there isn't a label for

  • 03:17

    the foothold like the gym.

  • 03:21

    Ha!

  • 03:25

    Yeah!

  • 03:26

    My boy!

  • 03:27

After I had enough fun for myself, it's time to check out rockentry's project "Hot

  • 03:32

    Tuna."

  • 03:33

Here's his best attempt of the day.

  • 03:47

    Come on.

  • 03:49

    Yeah!

  • 03:50

    Come on!

  • 03:51

    Come on, dude.

  • 03:54

    Come on, dude.

  • 03:58

    Come on, man.

  • 04:01

    Come on. Come on.

  • 04:06

Come on. Get it. come on.

  • 04:08

    Come on.

  • 04:12

    Ohhhhhhh.

  • 04:16

Almost two years on this thing, two years!

  • 04:19

I was not able to climb all the way to the crux, but I gave the crux a few tries just

  • 04:23

to have an idea how it feels like.

  • 04:26

Thank you so much, rockentry, for showing me around Stoney Point.

  • 04:29

Ya, and thanks Geek Climber for coming out all the way from San Diego, man.

  • 04:33

    That's awesome.

  • 04:34

    Yes, and thanks for watching.

  • 04:36

    Like and subscribe.

  • 04:37

See you in the next video.

  • 04:39

    Bye!
