I welcome back to the Migro YouTube channel my name's Shane the founder of Migro today

we're gonna look at the little IKEA indoor grow light it's called a Vaxer

unit and this is a 17 Watt 16 and 1/2 Watts from the wall unit and covers

a 60 centimeter by 30 centimeter grow area so we've set it up it's got its own

little stand you get with it we've just added some rigs here so you can put it

on our test mat and we're gonna take multiple measurements would ask the mat

here well at this time I wanted to show you how taken there the readings and how

I'm calculating than the average pbft and then the ppfd for what the you know

set up for test now let's look at the power consumption it's at 16 and a half

watts you can see the lead runs into the LED driver the transformer from from AC

to DC and up into the lighting unit in each of these five elements there is

three LEDs two whites and a red LED and as I said before in total it covers

really a 60 centimeter by 30 centimeter grow area so we've divided this 30 by 60

centimeter grow area into eight squares we're going to measure the ppfd level in

each of those squares so I've done up a little worksheet here and on the

worksheet you can see that we've marked out the 60 centimeter by 30 centimeter

area so the area is 0.18 meter squared we've taken down the power to 16 and a

half watts and now we're going to take the ppfd and

each of those squares the total of divided by eight and get the average

let's go

this is the readout of the sp500 the ppfd meter its measured in tens of units

so first square we have a reading of 91 which is 40 30 60 80 160

one sixty and one so let's work out the total of this we're adding them all

together and dividing them by the total amount

so that's 920 is the total amount and we divide that by 8 the number of measures

taken and the PPE ft average is 115 so the average of all those squares is 115

and there to get the total ppfd output that's the average per square and over

the area so you multiply 1 1 5 by 0.18 and that equals 20 point 7 BP ft and to

get our efficiency you divide the 20.7 by sixteen point five watts and that

equals one

1.25 the deficiency at this unit is 1.25 micromoles per watt which is pretty good

next looked at at the spectrum so I'm use the sensitive passport then you know

we used to measure the spectrum and looked at the totals so the amount of

blue in the overall spectrum is 12% which is pretty good for a full spectrum

and sort of 12 to 15% is ideal so it's just on the bottom limit and then it's

perfectly matched in terms of green and red so both similar in terms of

photosynthetic efficiency so it's a perfect light for full spectrum growing

so without a bad light at all you get an average as I said of 115 over

2 foot by 1 foot area and an efficiency of 1.26 micromoles per watt which is

which is actually pretty good so yeah well we're checking out I'm gonna have
