With a unique depth and understanding of the world  around them, INFJs come with a sense of humor

  • 00:11

that has the power to make a fully-crowded room go  silent. A combination of light self-deprecation,

  • 00:19

and seemingly morbid bluntness, not everyone  quite understands or appreciates the INFJ’s

  • 00:24

unexpected sense of humor.. So, in today’s  video, we’re going to unravel the 9 reasons

  • 00:30

behind INFJ’s absurdly dark sense of  humor, and why it’s mostly harmless.

  • 00:36

Welcome or welcome back psychos! Before we get  into today’s video, we’d love it if you liked and

  • 00:48

Alright, jumping right into it starting with.. Number one – Introverted Thinking function

  • 00:54

One of the main contributing factors to the INFJs’  self-deprecating humor comes from their tertiary

  • 01:00

function, introverted thinking. While this  function’s main job is to actually allow the

  • 01:05

INFJ to connect the dots of information they  collect through their extraverted feeling,

  • 01:10

it can also push the INFJ to get wrapped up  in their own heads. Constantly recalling past

  • 01:16

unfortunate experiences is more likely to be a  trait of a less mature INFJ, but nevertheless,

  • 01:23

they end up turning those unfavorable feelings  into comedic material. So, they create

  • 01:29

self-deprecating jokes that poke fun at and take  the strength away from those negative feelings.

  • 01:35

It might seem morbid and unsettling to some  people, but to some personality types it

  • 01:41

makes perfect sense and it doesn’t feel weird  at all. INFPs, for example, handle dark humor

  • 01:47

pretty well and usually would understand where  INFJs come from when making said jokes. So,

  • 01:54

if you ever see someone making a self-deprecating  joke and laughing at it, chances are they’re just

  • 01:59

an INFJ having some harmless fun.. meaning  it’s not necessarily a secret cry for help.

  • 02:07

Number two – Extraverted Feeling function With extraverted feeling as the INFJs secondary

  • 02:14

function, it’s understandable that they’re  naturally attuned with the people around them.

  • 02:18

They have a deep sense of the energies, moods  and feelings of those around them - naturally

  • 02:23

absorbing them and even feeling them more  than they do their own feelings and emotions.

  • 02:28

And so, because they’re so wrapped up in the  feelings of others, they need to have a way to

  • 02:33

indirectly call people out on their negative  emotions when the time comes. For example,

  • 02:39

if their partner is being rather snarky  and moody, rather than lovingly asking them

  • 02:44

what they can do to make them feel better,  INFJs may jokingly ask them something like

  • 02:49

“who pooped in your cheerios this morning?” Or  they may ask their male partner something like

  • 02:54

“is it your time of the month?”.. INFJs  don’t like to stir the pot by any means,

  • 02:59

so by adding a little humour to the moodiness of  a situation, they can usually work their way to

  • 03:05

getting people to crack a smile, breaking  the tension and easing the conversation.

  • 03:11

Number three – INFJs are unique  and can be hard to understand

  • 03:17

INFJs have a very interesting nature, even  contradictory at times. That’s what makes them

  • 03:24

so intriguing and different from so many of the  other personality types. And more often than not,

  • 03:30

they have a hard time finding people who can  truly understand them and their intricate way

  • 03:35

of thinking.. Including their at times  difficult to understand humour. In fact,

  • 03:40

it’s mostly difficult for people to accept that  INFJs just don’t take themselves, or the world,

  • 03:46

too seriously. They have an ability to find  a lot of sensitive subjects that others might

  • 03:52

feel heavy personal attachments to, very casual  and not a big deal. That’s why in most cases,

  • 03:59

their preferred kind of humor is considered  unfiltered and too dark to some other personality

  • 04:05

types. This is also why they are very picky about  whom they share their sensitive side and can joke

  • 04:11

around freely with.. Usually testing the waters  before exposing their shocking playful side.

  • 04:19

Number four – INFJs are big intuitive thinkers

  • 04:24

It’s no surprise that INFJs are one of  the most intuitive of the MBTI types,

  • 04:28

with introverted intuition as their main driving  force. So, it’s fair to say there’s a lot going

  • 04:34

on inside the minds of the INFJ type at all times.  From intuitive, subconscious thinking around the

  • 04:41

clock - to selfless, thoughtful compassion  for others. It never really stops for INFJs,

  • 04:47

and the more stimulated their environment  is, the more information processing they do.

  • 04:54

As a result, INFJs are always thinking in layers  and digging deep and far into things. They

  • 05:00

see what a lot of people miss, and they find  pleasure in that. So when it comes to humor,

  • 05:05

they manage to see past the initial disturbing  structure and wording of their jokes and find them

  • 05:11

humorous and harmless. This isn’t perceived by  everyone around them, so it’s not rare to witness

  • 05:17

hesitant laughter or even defensiveness  after an INFJ cracks a joke. However,

  • 05:22

to save themselves the pain, if they don’t  sense a decent level of introspection, they’ll

  • 05:28

just keep their intuitive humor to themselves. Number five – INFJs can be quite the nitpickers

  • 05:36

One of the main reasons people sometimes  tend to avoid INFJs is because they can be

  • 05:41

tough-to-handle perfectionists. They can easily  point out things you’re doing incorrectly

  • 05:46

and even ask you to do them the right way. This  attribute of theirs comes into play when they

  • 05:52

want to drop a joke, but it can surely backfire. INFJs can quickly spot the inconsistency and

  • 06:00

lack of logic in what others say and do. And  if someone’s telling a story or talking about

  • 06:05

a certain topic, they tend to naturally look  for that inconsistency in their storytelling

  • 06:10

or the details of their topic. Details that no one  else would ever notice or necessarily care about.

  • 06:17

And with these involuntary findings, they piece  together the irony in the things that people say

  • 06:23

in order to make a joke about it accordingly.  Luckily, with their deep understanding of how

  • 06:28

words can be interpreted, they always try to spare  the feelings of others, so they won’t necessarily

  • 06:34

call people out for these inconsistencies.  However, you can be certain that they’re

  • 06:39

chuckling to themselves when they witness a lack  of common sense in some of their fellow humans.

  • 06:45

Number six – INFJs experience a lot of guilt By nature, INFJs love to help and please the

  • 06:52

people around them. They go above and beyond  to make people happy – whether it’s a romantic

  • 06:58

partner or someone they met down the street. INFJs  don’t hold back in that aspect and hold themselves

  • 07:04

accountable if they fail to fix what’s broken.  And so, the INFJ is able to use their unique

  • 07:10

sense of humor as a way for them to express those  emotions without actually having to be vulnerable.

  • 07:17

For example, if a lady asked for help crossing  the street but the INFJ’s hands were full, leading

  • 07:22

them to apologetically decline, the INFJ may crack  a joke to their partner later that evening saying

  • 07:28

“I bet that poor old lady is still standing  their waiting for someone to help her cross..”

  • 07:34

While most people wouldn’t even think to  recall that memory from earlier that day, the

  • 07:38

INFJ probably ruminates about it their whole way  home. And so, these types of jokes are a way for

  • 07:45

the INFJ to self-soothe these feelings of guilt  that creep up once the situation is long over.

  • 07:53

Number seven – INFJs want to slam the door INFJs are famous for their “slam the door”

  • 08:00

trait. They won’t hesitate or think twice  about kicking someone out of their lives

  • 08:04

if it comes down to it. They may start by ghosting  and ignoring that person then slowly shutting them

  • 08:10

off – for good. They’d only engage with said  person if it’s absolutely necessary, but they

  • 08:16

would still give them the same kind of treatment  - that they don’t like them much anymore.

  • 08:22

One of the mechanisms they use to  accomplish that is to push that person away,

  • 08:27

so they don’t need to deal with them. And to  do that, they often use undesirable and crude

  • 08:32

humor to scare that person away. Dark and morbid  humor does a good job at killing the conversation

  • 08:38

and instilling that awkward silence, and  that’s what INFJs go for. Deep down, they hope

  • 08:45

this defense tactic works and spares them from  conflict and hurting people’s feelings.. And if

  • 08:50

they’re feeling ruthless enough, it usually does. Number eight – INFJs enjoy making people laugh

  • 08:59

Because of their accelerated  minds and constant inner dialogue,

  • 09:03

INFJs rarely focus on conversations that don’t  grab their attention. They don’t do well with

  • 09:09

small talk, and you could easily lose them if  you don’t have anything interesting to say.

  • 09:14

However, what does get their attention is:  out-of-the-ordinary, intriguing taboo subjects

  • 09:20

and topics. And in particular – joke  and humor with depth and intellect.

  • 09:26

That’s why INFJs are naturally drawn to use  dark humor. They perceive this type of humor

  • 09:31

as the best way to keep things interesting  and make people laugh. To them, it’s just an

  • 09:36

appropriate way to get the conversation going in  a more controversial way, which is the only time

  • 09:42

they can ever get truly invested in it. However,  they’re aware that their jokes might get them

  • 09:49

wary looks, so most INFJs become accustomed  to know when and where to drop a dark one.

  • 09:56

It shows their compassionate side as they strive  to spread joy by laughing at the tragedy of life.

  • 10:04

Number nine – INFJ use the process of selection Being the introverted intellectuals they are,

  • 10:11

INFJs have a less-than-easy time making friends.  They’re not satisfied with shallow friendships

  • 10:17

and relationships; they, instead, desire  real, meaningful connections that they can

  • 10:22

cultivate into something sustainable. That’s why  whenever they do find someone they click with,

  • 10:28

INFJs will do their best to keep them  around. Because they feel almost alien

  • 10:32

in their own environment so when they meet  that one special person, they won’t let go.

  • 10:39

And they usually look for someone who can keep  up with their wit and wordplay. And to do that,

  • 10:44

INFJs let their sarcastic, dark side loose  and test the waters. If they find someone

  • 10:50

who understands what they mean and relates to  them, they open up more to this person and look

  • 10:56

forward to hanging around them. But, if INFJ  are met with judgmental eyes, they become a

  • 11:02

lot more cautious with how they act around people. And... that's it for today's video, PSYCH-Os.. So,

  • 11:09

if you’re an INFJ, have you ever made a dark  joke and then instantly regretted it? Tell
