This video is sponsored by Surf Shark, more about

  • 00:33

    them later.

  • 00:36

Yeah, this is the video! Oh yes, now my name is Colin Furze, over the past three years

  • 00:42

I've been digging a tunnel from here in my workshop, along and up through to my house,

  • 00:46

and this is the video where we finally break through. Now if this is the first video you

  • 00:50

have seen, as you can see from the intro, it's been a hell of a project, go onto my

  • 00:54

channel, there are six other videos. Some of the most well-liked videos I've ever made,

  • 00:59

drop a SUBSCRIBE and LIKE because this is an awesome project but, of course it's been

  • 01:03

a lot of work to finally come up to this point where we break through to the house. Let me

  • 01:08

show you where we're at. OK, here we are, this is the plan, I'm currently stood here

  • 01:11

in the shed and we basically want to tunnel along, down here, under the garage and across,

  • 01:14

and up into the house, and then eventually up here to the underground

  • 01:17

bunker, which is at the bottom of the garden. Now, the last six videos have essentially

  • 01:22

gone from the edge of the shed here, right to this corner just underneath the garage,

  • 01:25

but this is the video where we need to turn left, come under the house and come up into

  • 01:30

    the cupboard and this is the most exciting part. There's also a lot more to consider;

  • 01:34

we've got the house foundations, we've got the sewer pipe, we've got the cold water main,

  • 01:37

all of that sort of thing to try and negotiate before we did that we just want a little bit

  • 01:41

of extra ventilation, so we've pushed the pipe up at the edge of this tunnel and now

  • 01:45

underneath the lawn, always looks really weird when you see a pipe coming out the ground.

  • 01:48

So to get started on this we need to now put another one here, because these pipes not

  • 01:51

only are for ventilation, we also pour the concrete down them to then surround the inner

  • 01:56

tunnel with concrete and make it all secure. Now before we go drilling holes around here,

  • 02:00

I have a sewer pipe running down the passage, so we need to locate that first, yes we do!

  • 02:05

It goes off at the angle. OK not quite what we wanted to see, I was hoping to see a nice

  • 02:13

elbow, and a straight line going up the passage, but it goes over the 45 degrees, but of course

  • 02:17

how far does it go before it then kicks under. So gopro on a stick with a torch.

  • 02:29

I reckon a 45 straight after which is probably in line with the edge of this I think, Give

  • 02:38

    it a wide berth.

  • 02:41

So had a measure up in between, these two bits of tape, we think is the sewer pipe.

  • 02:45

So I think if we drill a hole just here, all the way down, you should come out in the little

  • 02:52

corner, in between a little bit of mesh, which I should be pointing at now on the video.

  • 02:56

So if we get the long drill bit, drill a pilot hole down see if we're anywhere near, and

  • 03:01

then we'll push the tube up and put a vent up.

  • 03:09

Oh yeah... spot on boy, spot on!

  • 03:16

Right let's get the old um... you know, the big stainless steel,

  • 03:22

push it up, drill it out, ventilation!

  • 03:25

Haha! the old Swing o Simpo!

  • 03:52

We were totally ready weren't we, oh you see a black pipe, bloody hell! This is the plan

  • 04:10

we're just gonna change the angle of our tube and go past it. It's all good we've sorted

  • 04:15

it, we've just put it on the wonk, we're going to go

  • 04:18

straight past it! and the plumber's key Aww! Orh! haha!

  • 04:22

Haha! It's our first day back today after Christmas! haha!

  • 04:29

Missed it, there's the pipe, new hole!

  • 04:38

Whey! There we are, hole done. Well that was eventful. Right, this way...

  • 04:52

Now this video is sponsored by Surfshark VPN, not this shark! Now a lot of us, when we think

  • 04:56

about protecting our devices, we think about protecting them in the physical form; protecting

  • 05:01

them from accidental damage and whatnot

  • 05:05

But with Surfshark VPN, you end up protecting it in the virtual world as well. But what's

  • 05:11

a VPN? A VPN is a virtual private network, think of it as like an invisible force field

  • 05:16

around your computer, around your device, because if you're out in public, using public

  • 05:20

wi-fi anyone else on that network could kind of use that to gain access to your device

  • 05:25

and look at all your information. It's as if they're tunneling up into your computer

  • 05:30

and stealing all your data! Now Surfshark is really easy to install, you just download

  • 05:35

it, create an account, sign in and then switch it on when you want, just like you would any

  • 05:39

other normal app. It's not just protecting your data, which it's good for, you can also

  • 05:43

tell your computer you're in a different place to what you actually are and this comes in

  • 05:46

handy if you want to watch stuff. I like the formula one, my formula one subscription is

  • 05:51

UK based, so if i go on holiday and i'm sat on a beach and I want to watch the race, my

  • 05:56

formula one provider says 'no colin you are not in the uk' turn on Surfshark, tell it

  • 06:00

    I'm in the uk, boom!

  • 06:01

We've got racing. Oh yes! So to get Surfshark yourself, use my link as you can see on the

  • 06:07

    screen

  • 06:08

of course it's clickable in the description and you will get 83% off and three months

  • 06:12

    Free.

  • 06:14

Also it's a 30-day money-back guarantee so there's no risk in trying it. Now then of

  • 06:17

course support them, they are supporting this project, they are supporting the channel.

  • 06:21

So then, tunneling, where we at? OK, minecarts ready, buckets are ready, we're all ready,

  • 06:25

to the house, to the house, to the house, to the house, to the house, to the house!

  • 06:54

Ok, exciting bit, roof's supported so we can start moving forwards again. Now this is the

  • 07:20

dig where we probably end up getting level with the house, so are we gonna see the house

  • 07:26

foundations or are we gonna end up going straight underneath them. All will be revealed very

  • 07:30

soon! So do I want to see my house foundations when we're digging, because there's a few

  • 07:35

things to consider and a few different ways we can look at this. Now if we look at a cross

  • 07:38

section of the tunnel, we've got this clay at the top here, that of course is not very

  • 07:43

hard. Then we've got this soft looser stone, not too bad and then we've got the rock hard

  • 07:47

stone at the bottom, very good. Now if we dig down and we see our house foundation either

  • 07:52

on the soft loose stone, or the rock hard stone, then we know the house is on completely

  • 07:57

solid footings. It's not going anywhere, we can dig under it to our hearts content, nothing's

  • 08:01

moving, that's all good, but of course the downside we'll have to chop a big arch out

  • 08:06

of the house foundations that could potentially disturb, vibrate things, might cause you know

  • 08:10

a bit of cracks and stuff inside. That's not so good! Now of course if it's up here somewhere

  • 08:15

right up here, we've got less to chop out, that's good. If it's completely not here,

  • 08:18

we don't have to chop anything out, that's really good, but of course that means that

  • 08:22

the house is sat on something which is slightly softer and therefore us digging under it's

  • 08:27

more likely to disturb it. But there is another thing to consider, in the winter, like it

  • 08:31

is now, there is more moisture in the ground and that can cause the ground to swell up

  • 08:35

slightly and the house can very slightly lift up, as you can see with my wonderful lego

  • 08:41

and sponge demonstration. Now of course in the summer, when the water content goes down,

  • 08:45

the house can sink slightly, we're only talking you know fractions of an amount here, but

  • 08:50

Colin goes and builds a tunnel off this hard stuff, right up to his house foundations,

  • 08:56

I'm effectively putting something that's not moving on something that is moving and then

  • 08:59

I could end up actually cracking the house over the tunnel.... hmm! It's not so straightforward

  • 09:07

is it this tunnel in malarkey. Right back to me with a silly face laughing because I'm

  • 09:11

digging under my house, not worried about any of this!

  • 09:27

Right despite a lot of digging there is no foundations to be found, so we've got the

  • 09:31

steel up. We've got it all like supported properly. What we're going to do, we're going

  • 09:34

to drill a hole down the edge, down right down as close to the house as we can see where

  • 09:39

it comes out here, just to double check that we should be seeing the foundations by now

  • 09:43

and then of course if the drill comes out somewhere here or whatnot then we know that

  • 09:47

basically we're never going to see them, we're just going to, we'll just keep going straight

  • 09:50

underneath them. That's the plan. Now we're just reacting to what we find.

  • 09:59

Where's it gonna come out? Where's it gonna come out?

  • 10:03

Oh look at that! Well it just goes to show, our measurements are very good! Right, No.

  • 10:12

No? No, no I mean no foundations! I can see the drill, it's literally four inches the

  • 10:20

other side of our, our frame thing. Right so, so yeah, yeah. You'd think we would see

  • 10:27

them by then wouldn't you. No, definitely not there. Right I've got a plan.

  • 10:40

Yeah, this is where I'm gonna be coming up inside the house, but there's an order I want

  • 10:44

to do this in. If we dig underneath and then chop this floor up, all the vibrations of

  • 10:48

doing that, will kind of vibrate that top layer of soil and then we'll end up with bits

  • 10:52

coming down and we risk disturbing it, because we want that to stay as tightly and as compact

  • 10:56

as possible. So, our concrete basically just goes back up to it, pushes up against it and

  • 11:01

it was like we were never even there. So I think now chop this floor up, get this down

  • 11:06

to dirt, once we've done that then dig under the house, and then push our hydraulic pipe

  • 11:11

up into the center of this cupboard and then when we've got a hole we can kind of like

  • 11:15

push it all in and then sort of take it from there. It will reveal where the foundations

  • 11:19

are with this supporting wall, whether there just sat on the screed, you name it all sorts

  • 11:24

of things to do. That is a plan.

  • 11:54

That went down quick didn't it? Yeah, not much underneath that!

  • 11:57

Somebody's already tried to dig a tunnel already!

  • 12:16

Right, that's got the pantry floor dug out, basically swapped it for a small allotment!

  • 12:38

So next up, I'm just going to dig down here a little bit and see if I can see where the

  • 12:43

bottom of the foundations are, just because it'd be nice to know.

  • 12:51

Ok, right, got a plan, so we dug down, found the concrete foundations under here so we've

  • 13:02

got a measurement now as to how deep the whole thing is. We've actually drilled a hole through

  • 13:07

the concrete foundations, we know that they're about eight inches, 200 mil thick which is

  • 13:11

uh, not particularly thick, so we know that in our tunnel we're actually very close and

  • 13:15

there's not much dirt above us, underneath and we're going to try and keep that there

  • 13:19

if we can. So we're going to dig a bit more out,

  • 13:22

and then we'll drill that hole again, see where the edge basically of this wall is in

  • 13:26

terms of using in and make sure we don't put any framing on the ceiling too far forward,

  • 13:31

support that and then of course it's the lovely moment when we could dig under a little bit

  • 13:36

more and then we can break through, and i can finally get into my house via the tunnel!

  • 13:42

    To the house!

  • 13:48

Right, Rick's going to drill a hole through that bit of foundation, flush with that wall,

  • 13:58

we can see where it comes out and then we'll know exactly where the inside wall is in line

  • 14:03

with this, so we don't put any ceiling stuff in the way!

  • 14:04

I mean it might not come out here, it might be over here somewhere, I presume it's about

  • 14:12

here. Oh yeah, look at that! Look at it boy!

  • 14:16

Spot on! I see you! Well that's our line there, we've got a line now where our inside wall

  • 14:22

is, so my head is now definitely under my house! oh! oh! It's exciting! You'll never

  • 14:30

believe it, we drilled another... haha! fell over again... we drilled another hole at the

  • 14:35

back of the cupboard, like dead in line with the wall and it's literally come out there,

  • 14:40

oh! This face is completely in line with the house up top and that's not a fluke!

  • 14:46

We have planned this meticulously. I'm very pleased with my tunneling abilities you know!

  • 14:51

Ok, here we go, last bit of roof is supported. All we got to do now is do a little bit of

  • 15:00

digging in this direction, and then Furze is coming up in the pantry.

  • 15:07

This is the bit we've been waiting for! Right, bit more digging, yes!

  • 15:26

There we are, house foundations. That's weird, you never thought you'd see the underside

  • 15:32

of your house foundation, we've done a hole up and we've now exposed the house foundations,

  • 15:38

this is the bottom of my house foundation. We've dug a little bit more of a hole, we

  • 15:43

think we're about two or three inches away from the hole in the bottom of the pantry.

  • 15:46

Right let's get in the house!

  • 15:54

Oh, this is as cool as imagined it would be!

  • 16:51

    I'm in the house! haha!

  • 17:24

Right, it's all dug out ready for a nice steel inner tunnel to be covered in concrete, but

  • 17:46

there's a few things we need to consider. we come up the ladder.

  • 17:51

So basically we've got our brick foundation's, engineering brick and obviously the house

  • 17:55

with all the plaster. We've got this concrete ledge here though which is across the house

  • 17:59

foundations. It sticks out a bit, which is what the space is going on, but it needs to

  • 18:02

be flush. Now I don't want to go whacking this off because of course there's not much

  • 18:05

dirt between the bottom of that and then the bottom of our concrete is going to be, so

  • 18:09

what I think we do, is we build all the tunnel up to a certain level, concrete it up, so

  • 18:14

it's got support under here, and then smash that off, because that technically is going

  • 18:19

to weaken the house foundation. So until there's something underneath it, holding it all up,

  • 18:23

I think we'll leave that in place. oh yes! Now of course we have dug ourselves closer

  • 18:29

to the kitchen, which means I'm closer to the tea making facilities, so we've made this...

  • 18:42

yeah awesome job! Now also to celebrate this project, we've got new merch, we've got Furze

  • 18:48

mining company t-shirts, available in grey with black print as you can see here and also

  • 18:52

black with grey print, very nice! Now of course it's linked to the description where you can

  • 18:56

get them, confirmed shop.com and channel members get 10% off! Now the next video, it will be

  • 19:02

finally finished steeled, up concreted up all in the next video, you will not have to

  • 19:06

wait months for it this time though, it won't be next

  • 19:09

week but the week after I apologize, for the weight but as you can imagine, this is not

  • 19:13

a quick job and it takes a long time. So SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, you don't want to miss out! This has

  • 19:19

been the best project I have ever worked on. So glad that you've all been along on the

  • 19:22

journey, I'll see you all in the next one!
