  • 00:00

Today, we're at the Tampa RV SuperShow, and if you love Airstreams as much as we do, you've

  • 00:06

probably already heard that they dropped some pretty big news this week.

  • 00:11

Now we've pulled a few favors, and we've talked to the corporate team and they're going to

  • 00:15

give us an exclusive behind scenes look at the all new eStream.

  • 00:20

    I didn't mention that, did I?

  • 00:25

    No.

  • 00:26

And we heard there's one here?

  • 00:28

    Yeah.

  • 00:29

Adam said he would show us.

  • 00:30

Yeah, I can get you the inside scoop.

  • 00:32

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited.

  • 00:34

Literally, I geeked out over just the taillights.

  • 00:37

    It's kind of like...

  • 00:39

    You mean both of them.

  • 00:41

They're on the front and back.

  • 00:43

    Oh, really?

  • 00:44

    Yep.

  • 00:45

I saw a video of it parking itself, where you're parking it.

  • 00:47

That is going to save a lot of marriages.

  • 00:49

    Right.

  • 00:50

    I'm being honest.

  • 00:51

So that might be one where I'll toss back, of what we're going to name the feature, of

  • 00:54

    like, The Marriage Saver.

  • 00:56

    Literally.

  • 00:57

With marriage saving backup to [crosstalk 00:01:00].

  • 00:59

    Yeah, all the arguments.

  • 01:00

And honestly, think about it, all of the stress for newbies is backing it up and towing it.

  • 01:06

    I remember, I've watched it.

  • 01:08

    Really?

  • 01:09

It's also more about the flexibility of what it can do when you actually realize what it

  • 01:13

    can do for you.

  • 01:14

And so if you're backed into a campsite, depending on the architecture of a campground, which

  • 01:19

in that model, the bedroom's out the back, so if you would need to back into a spot to

  • 01:22

be able to have the view that you want to wake up to, if for whatever reason you want

  • 01:25

to move the campsite a little bit or move where you're at, you can literally just take

  • 01:30

your phone out, spin the thing, hitch up to your tow vehicle or move whenever you need

  • 01:34

    to.

  • 01:35

    I can't even imagine that.

  • 01:36

And so it's the possibility of how it enables what you want to do, not just like dealing

  • 01:42

with the, "Well, then I'd have to do this and I'd have to move this," or, "It would

  • 01:45

be so cool if I could move it there."

  • 01:46

You can park it horizontally next to a small pond if you wanted to, and not have to worry

  • 01:51

about the angle at which you're trying to back in, or if it's too dangerous to move

  • 01:55

    your truck down somewhere else.

  • 01:56

Which, of course, don't put your-

  • 01:58

Don't put your Airstream somewhere dangerous.

  • 01:59

    -Airstream in a dangerous position.

  • 02:01

    Right.

  • 02:02

But it's still the fact of it opens up stuff that people hadn't necessarily thought about,

  • 02:06

which is the point of it.

  • 02:07

It's, as a concept vehicle, "What are we not doing?"

  • 02:09

One of the things I've had happen to me, especially in the earlier days, is we'd park it, and

  • 02:14

then I whip out the 20 foot sewer hose and the sewer's 21 feet away.

  • 02:18

So then I have to hitch up [crosstalk 00:02:20] to move it the one feet to plug in.

  • 02:23

    I'm done.

  • 02:24

There's also a bunch of other stuff, like an actual integrated air conditioning system,

  • 02:27

900 watts of flat [inaudible 00:02:29], stuff on the roof.

  • 02:30

So you get rid of the AC, the antennas, all the stuff that's on the roof, to decrease

  • 02:34

the aerodynamic profile, which saves even more fuel or power than you would have, which

  • 02:40

is also one of the main goals.

  • 02:41

All of the components have been removed from the roof, does that give you are real estate

  • 02:45

    for solar panels?

  • 02:46

    Yeah.

  • 02:47

Yeah, because you don't have any components to work around?

  • 02:49

Pretty much the whole roof is in-

  • 02:51

    Is solar?

  • 02:52

    Is solar.

  • 02:53

Okay, so now do we get to go see it?

  • 02:56

I have to go see it now.

  • 03:02

    Yeah.

  • 03:03

    Let's go check it out.

  • 03:09

    [inaudible 00:03:06].

  • 03:11

    I'm losing my mind.

  • 03:16

So this is the black trim you're talking out.

  • 03:19

    Yeah, [inaudible 00:03:19].

  • 03:20

    Okay.

  • 03:21

    Wow.

  • 03:22

    Okay.

  • 03:23

We have underbody lights, and one of the advantages of that is that when we're hooking up at night

  • 03:27

we can flip the underbody lights on and it helps to hook up.

  • 03:30

    Absolutely.

  • 03:31

Otherwise you have headlamps, and flashlights.

  • 03:32

    Oh, yeah.

  • 03:33

    It's really cute.

  • 03:34

    I love all of it.

  • 03:36

It's a whole new decor that our interior team you put together.

  • 03:39

    Yeah.

  • 03:40

    It's super fun.

  • 03:41

Another one of the features built into this is the fact that it can work for any tow vehicle

  • 03:48

because it's not actually towing it.

  • 03:49

It could be hybrid, it could be electric, it could be an internal combustion engine

  • 03:53

    that's pulling it.

  • 03:54

The flexibility of this is the fact that it's not limited or dependent upon a tow vehicle

  • 03:59

of a certain type, so you could hook it up to your truck today.

  • 04:01

    Sure.

  • 04:02

Or you could hook it up to a [inaudible 00:04:03] wide, or whatever you want, and it'll actually

  • 04:05

still work all the same because the tow vehicle is propelling itself behind the tow vehicle,

  • 04:11

which increases your tow vehicle range, which extends range for quite literally everything.

  • 04:16

The wheels are actually what's driving it and will actually follow at this same speed,

  • 04:21

which helps for things like if you're getting on the highway and you need to be able to

  • 04:23

move quickly, you're not having the drag of trying to pull to a vehicle.

  • 04:27

Or if you need to stop quicker, it'll actually respond to that the same way.

  • 04:30

And there's a lot of stability controls, whether it's a headwind, crosswind, the axle will

  • 04:35

adjust to that and just deliver a better towing experience, even though it's not towing, it's

  • 04:40

    following.

  • 04:41

    Yeah.

  • 04:42

So this tells me that you may not even need a weight distribution hitch.

  • 04:44

    Absolutely, no more of those.

  • 04:47

So you literally just saved a thousand dollars right there.

  • 04:49

    That's right.

  • 04:50

Because you don't need a weight distribution hitch.

  • 04:51

Or if you're going with the [inaudible 00:04:52], you just saved $3,000.

  • 04:53

    That's right.

  • 04:54

    No more weight distributions.

  • 04:56

I like this diamond configuration here, this is really nice.

  • 04:59

Sometimes it's the detail work that, to me, matters.

  • 05:02

It just looks good, I like it.

  • 05:05

You don't have to have the high-

  • 05:07

You don't have to have a charging station.

  • 05:08

You don't have to have the high voltage plugin to recharge it.

  • 05:09

You can plug it into anything, it'll just take longer, whereas those high voltage ones

  • 05:13

    replenish the batteries quicker.

  • 05:15

    Yeah.

  • 05:16

It's you can still plug in a standard campsite to recharge it.

  • 05:19

So if you towed it to a campground and you plug in your 30 amp or 50 amp into the Airstream,

  • 05:24

can you charge your electric vehicle from this?

  • 05:28

    From this?

  • 05:29

    Yes.

  • 05:30

This does have the ability to export power to plug in, whether it's an electric bike

  • 05:33

that you want to recharge or to a house, this can act as a way to export power from it.

  • 05:38

Another feature here on the back is a diffuser.

  • 05:40

    Okay.

  • 05:41

So if you're familiar with NASCAR auto racing in any way, whether it's different types of

  • 05:46

spoilers, as part of the aerodynamic profile, a diffuser will actually take the pressure

  • 05:51

from the back of this, because it will actually come back and swirl, which creates negative

  • 05:54

    pressure.

  • 05:55

The diffuser actually will guide that air and disperse it, so that there's less drag

  • 05:59

around the backside of the trailer, which again, helps range efficiency and decreases

  • 06:05

the drag coefficient as the thing is actually propelling itself along.

  • 06:09

Taking design elements from race cars to enhance the aerodynamic capabilities, that's pretty

  • 06:17

    smart.

  • 06:18

And this taillight, let me tell you, again, just geeking out over the taillight.

  • 06:24

It's the first time seeing the black trim, and I wasn't quite sure, but actually I like

  • 06:29

    it.

  • 06:30

I think mostly because this is something so entirely new and it also adds a little element

  • 06:35

that makes it stand out a little bit more.

  • 06:37

That's the point of a concept, right?

  • 06:39

    Right.

  • 06:40

    It evokes what...

  • 06:41

You didn't imagine black trim on, you don't imagine tail things like that, but it's a

  • 06:45

little bit of, "What if," a driving curiosity.

  • 06:47

But the point is electrification is coming, e-mobility is a thing.

  • 06:53

With Alexa voice enablement and everything that you need to know, you can say, "Alexa,

  • 06:57

    where's the nearest charging station?

  • 06:59

    Alexa, what needs..."

  • 07:00

Not only do you find out the information about what you need and where you need to go, you

  • 07:05

actually get vehicle information on demand.

  • 07:07

And so you can ask it, "Airstream, what's my battery level at?"

  • 07:10

And you can either get it pinged back to your phone, or see it on an internal display.

  • 07:14

So there's vehicle control like what you guys have in smart control today, but that next

  • 07:18

level of resources about your model or troubleshooting, and so you get support through voice commands

  • 07:25

as well as support for adventure commands.

  • 07:30

Obviously we wanted to see the Estream in action, but the big show was scheduled at

  • 07:34

the top of the hour and we had a little time to kill, which wasn't hard to do because Airstreams

  • 07:40

parent company, Thor Industries, didn't stop at just creating the electric Airstream, they

  • 07:45

also created an electric Class B and it gets up to 300 miles to a charge.

  • 07:52

So we figured a walkthrough of it was a great way to pass the time before the big event.

  • 07:58

Yeah, very quickly I noticed that you cannot see through the windows.

  • 08:01

    Isn't that groovy?

  • 08:02

    It's super groovy.

  • 08:03

And at the push of a button you can, and we'll show you that when you get inside.

  • 08:08

So something else you might notice is the exterior is very, very streamlined, right?

  • 08:15

    Okay.

  • 08:16

Those giant mirrors that you would standardly see, we've actually turned them into camera.

  • 08:21

    Okay.

  • 08:22

And once you get inside you'll see the field of vision is greater because it's not a camera,

  • 08:29

    it's [inaudible 00:08:29].

  • 08:30

So for this fully electric vehicle, the range is about 300 miles.

  • 08:37

    Okay.

  • 08:38

    Or five hours.

  • 08:39

Which what we found in is that most full-time RV owners love to go for about five hours

  • 08:45

and then find a cool spot to camp at, or stretch legs or sightsee.

  • 08:50

    Yeah.

  • 08:51

Yeah, four is typically our [crosstalk 00:08:53].

  • 08:53

    Yeah, we're three to fours.

  • 08:55

    Lately, because she's pregnant-

  • 08:56

    Oh, yay!

  • 08:57

I feel like it's 30 minutes to an hour before we have to stop.

  • 09:02

    [crosstalk 00:09:01] the thing.

  • 09:04

Right, we used to be fivers, sixers, now we're a little more into three to four.

  • 09:07

    Three to four is good.

  • 09:09

I remember those days, I've been there.

  • 09:11

You are going to love the interior of this vehicle.

  • 09:14

I'm excited about checking it out.

  • 09:16

    This is so cool.

  • 09:18

This is Daniel's dream, to have a...

  • 09:22

    Legitimately, yeah.

  • 09:23

A ceiling that you can see up through.

  • 09:26

There were five vehicles in the entire state that had the color and the roof like this

  • 09:31

for a Ford F250, and we drove literally across the state to pick it up because had a ceiling

  • 09:35

    like this.

  • 09:36

    Nice.

  • 09:37

It's a huge selling feature, especially when you're camping though, too.

  • 09:40

    Oh, yes.

  • 09:41

You want to be part of the outdoors.

  • 09:43

    Yes.

  • 09:44

    Even when you're inside.

  • 09:45

    Okay.

  • 09:46

So she did mention that we have digital mirrors.

  • 09:47

So if you want to take a look at what those digital mirrors would look like from the inside.

  • 09:51

These mirrors, along with our advanced sensors or LiDAR radar, are going to make the experience

  • 09:56

a lot more enjoyable and safer, of course.

  • 09:58

This is less time that you're actually taking your eyes off the road.

  • 10:02

Of course, to make our living space a little bit more versatile, this passenger seat does

  • 10:06

    turn around.

  • 10:07

    Okay.

  • 10:08

So they would have their own table.

  • 10:09

So if you have company over, you can put them in this seat, turn that table around, you

  • 10:12

have your table, sit on a seat, sit on the couch, pull your table out, have a nice family

  • 10:16

dinner, everybody have a nice little gathering right here inside.

  • 10:20

So this screen, you can literally control every aspect of this vehicle from this one

  • 10:25

    screen.

  • 10:26

    Okay.

  • 10:27

So of course you have your other panels around in the different areas as well.

  • 10:29

But say you forgot to turn off the bathroom light.

  • 10:32

You're not walking back there, you're tired, that's a long walk, so you just hit the lights

  • 10:37

and you can choose which area you want to turn the lights off, or you can tell Alexa

  • 10:41

to turn off the lights, she does that too because we partnered with Amazon.

  • 10:45

So Alexa does have a special skillset that we have integrated into the vehicle.

  • 10:51

So let's say you're driving and you need to know where the next charger is.

  • 10:54

    Alexa, where's the nearest charger?

  • 10:57

    Okay.

  • 10:58

So she'll pull up your location and show you where the next charger would be and how far

  • 11:03

    you have to go.

  • 11:05

So now, let's say you're at boondock, you don't know how much power you have left.

  • 11:10

Let me have you ask Alexa.

  • 11:12

Alexa, how much power do I have left?

  • 11:14

    Okay.

  • 11:15

So she'll pull up all your information right there, how much battery you have, what's left

  • 11:21

in your fuel cell, your water, your solar, you're good to go.

  • 11:25

So we didn't stop there though.

  • 11:27

We want to make sure you're enjoying your full experience.

  • 11:30

So let's say you want to stop at a site, but you want more information on where you're

  • 11:32

    going.

  • 11:33

Alexa, tell me more about El Capitan.

  • 11:34

    Okay.

  • 11:35

So she'll give you information on El Capitan before you go.

  • 11:41

But of course, before you go, you need to make sure it's a good day outside, right?

  • 11:45

You want to look outside and make sure it's not raining.

  • 11:46

So you come right over here, we're going to open up the windows, take a look at the windows.

  • 11:50

    Now we can see outside.

  • 11:53

    I love that part.

  • 11:55

    Wow.

  • 11:56

And now you want your privacy back because this guy is looking at you kind of weird.

  • 12:01

All right, let's close those back up.

  • 12:04

    Wow.

  • 12:06

    Sign me up.

  • 12:07

I want this on every vehicle I own.

  • 12:10

    It is amazing.

  • 12:11

And the solar roof would be able to do that as well.

  • 12:15

    Yeah.

  • 12:16

So you can dim it, so you don't want to wake up to the sun [crosstalk 00:12:19] bright

  • 12:19

and early, you're good to go.

  • 12:21

The bed would be behind you.

  • 12:23

It is a Murphy style bed.

  • 12:24

It would go down over the couch.

  • 12:26

    Okay.

  • 12:27

    Yes.

  • 12:28

And of course, the modern look does extend all the way back into the bathroom.

  • 12:32

So as you're walking out you've got to make sure you stop, take a look at the bathroom,

  • 12:36

and also the garage, which is in the very back where you relocated your storage, because

  • 12:40

as you see, we definitely took it off the roof.

  • 12:42

    Sure.

  • 12:43

    That is so neat.

  • 12:44

It's always about the finishes too, right?

  • 12:46

    Yeah, it looks so nice.

  • 12:47

There's just a lot of detail, right down to ambient lighting and everything.

  • 12:51

    It all matters.

  • 12:52

I don't know if she told you outside, the lighting also is an indicator.

  • 12:57

So right now your lighting is white.

  • 13:00

    Okay.

  • 13:01

Let's say you get in the vehicle and something's wrong and you need to check it before you

  • 13:04

    leave.

  • 13:05

    Yeah.

  • 13:06

That lighting will actually turn red.

  • 13:07

    Like, "Hey, something's wrong."

  • 13:08

And you can just be like, "Hey, Alexa, what's wrong?"

  • 13:10

And she'll tell you, "Oh, you need to check this."

  • 13:14

You need to see a psychiatrist.

  • 13:15

She'll be like, "You need mental help.

  • 13:18

Alexa can't help you but here's a psychiatrist, Daniel.

  • 13:24

And by the way, Daniel, I just booked an appointment for you."

  • 13:26

    [inaudible 00:13:27] that.

  • 13:27

This is a really nice bathroom too, for the size of it.

  • 13:35

Oh, it has a separate shower, that's nice.

  • 13:38

Honestly, honestly, there's a lot more space in here than I imagined looking from the outside.

  • 13:41

    Yeah, check out that closet.

  • 13:42

That's actually a pretty decent size.

  • 13:44

Yeah, you just imagine everything's going to be snug in here, but really there's so

  • 13:48

    much space.

  • 13:49

Oh, yeah, that's a good sized closet.

  • 13:50

    Yeah.

  • 13:51

And the showers, I mean, that's...

  • 13:52

    Huge and fantastic.

  • 13:55

That's bigger than our Airstream shower.

  • 14:14

  • 14:15

It drops down, okay, got it, got it.

  • 14:17

This is the equivalent of what you would consider your outdoor garage, but you can bring some

  • 14:22

of the maybe components that you would typically store on a roof rack inside and they would

  • 14:27

be protected against theft, including some subflooring storage here as well.

  • 14:34

  • 15:32

    low profile.

  • 15:34

  • 15:41

    [inaudible 00:15:38], thank you.

  • 15:45

We obviously need one of these.

  • 15:48

    No question.

  • 15:49

    No, the only question is-

  • 15:50

No, I could actually back it up and I would never have to learn how.

  • 15:53

That's true, you could do it with app instead.

  • 15:55

You wouldn't have to learn how to back up anymore.

  • 15:58

I probably should still learn to back it up.

  • 16:00

    That's true, just in case.

  • 16:02

Well, no, that's just awesome, it does it all.

  • 16:03

    That is really cool.

  • 16:04
