The world was shocked in April 2021 when one of the most successful rappers of the late 1990s
and early 2000s died: the Ruff Ryder himself, DMX. According to Vulture, the rapper had fallen into a
coma following a heart attack caused by cocaine use, before dying of multiple organ failure.
His family wrote in a statement published by CNN:. "We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX,
birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with
his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days."
Simmons had long been open with fans and . reporters about struggling with addiction since an early age.
