When my wife's mother was in her early 50s,. she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's and me and my wife were both
in our mid 20s and found that there was very little happening in that space.
No one our age was talking about it.. There was a real stigma associated with it.. Very few people who had it were talking about it and so
we created an organization whose whole goal was to raise awareness, mostly among
young people about Alzheimer's in general and to try to find a cure.
And the other thing that happened is I realized the only reason the situation was
remotely manageable is because I could pay for a huge amount of in-home care for
my mother-in-law along with my brother-in-law and my father-in-law.
