Were gonna be installing a GFB short shift kit

that tell you what tools you're gonna need

So the first thing we're gonna do is take a measurement of the stock shifter

So we can see down here, that at the moment,

in first gear the car is sitting on 30cm.

MARTY: This Outback has a JDMSTR six speed box.

And you have to pull up a collar on the gear stick to select reverse.

so you can transfer it over to the new shifter.

Once the shifter is unbolted,

This is the factory shifter and this is the aftermarket GFB short shifter.

Now most people assume the short shifter is actually shorter

But it's actually the same size.

What make a shift shorter is the pivot point.

And on the GFB one, you can adjust it,

making it shorter or longer as you like without the need for any medication.

Now we have to transfer all the parts from the factory shifter onto the new one.

MARTY: The bushings are greased up and then transferred into the new shifter.

It's important that all the parts from the old shifter go onto the new one in the right order.

MOOG: Once it's lubed up, you can stick it in.

MARTY: The kit comes with a few extra parts to keep the angle of the selector right

so it doesn't hit the transmission tunnel.

These are installed with the supplied Allen keys which let you adjust it so it's just right.

So the new shifter's in. We just have to loosely put everything together to make sure it's in the right spot.

So this GFB shortshifter has the capability of going all the way down to a 25mm throw.

Now that's probably a little bit short for our application.

But we've taken it from 7cm down to around 4-4.5cm.

It'll give you a much faster throw.

And that means you'll get from your order counter to the counter where you pick up your food
